28/0 off 13. As score suggests, we're having to battle for our runs. Outfield not quite as fast as in recent years. Salter already bowling and on the spot - like my early look of him.

Exceptional effort considering this time yesterday he would've known he had absolutely no chance of playing (under usual circumstances)

As long as the runs go in the book don't matter how they get there jimbo!
Hopefully we go big first up (400+) and then look to give ourselves the option of the follow on (depending on pitch situation)

guildford is the pitch as flat as a pancake or just good batting/poor bowling?

We're still comfortably on top in the game - push onto 350-400 willbe good, especially considering we are essentially batting with the 2nd xi

Considering 5 of our top 6 were unavailable it's better than I was hoping for.

Re: Surrey vs Glamorgan LV=County Championship
An absorbing day's play. Sadly this year missing the Corporal and ChichesterSurreyFan who are engaged in matters of vital national importance far away.
Agree with Olly that we've done well considering how many regular batsmen were missing. However, I disagree that ''we're comfortably on top''.
Clearly we won the first two sessions and Glamorgan took the third. However, imo the visitors' success in the last couple of hours was significant and threatens to hand them the momentum.
More about Surrey in a moment but I'll say firstly that I was very impressed by Glamorgan throughout the whole day. Although we were on top until shortly after tea, they stuck at it with determination and hardly ever gave away easy runs when bowling or fielding. Against many sides playing the way we were, we probably would have been 250/0 at tea (rather than 199) and almost out of sight. Rudolph's placement of his troops was excellent - several well struck shots failed to pierce the field - and Meschede was especially tidy. The other bowlers were regularly there or thereabouts. Off spinner Salter could have had a couple of wickets another day; nice flight with variations in pace.
The wicket was a green top which may interest Meaker, recalled for Dunn - pardon, JimBob? Didn't quite hear you say, ''Good shout, Guildford!'' Anyway, it behaved itself better for the batsmen than I expected without being anything like a road. Harinath played the wicket and all the bowlers well. He's now a far less defensive player than he used to be. Continually looking to cut and sweep. Although he had a bit of luck along the way, he deserved his century and the crowd were delighted for him (his ton was even more popular with the Guildford masses than the news of Viscount's fivefer and that's saying something!).
Ansari was always performing the anchor role. Nothing wrong with that, in fact much needed given how many regulars were missing and how easily some of the replacements fell away late in the day. However, after the Baron was back in the castle, Ansari became totally becalmed for a while. He was on 70 for over half an hour and the innings stuttered. Yes, it was important he didn't get out then - and credit to him for not doing so, his patience and concentration all day were admirable - but the lack of runs during this time helped give Glamorgan the initiative.
Such a shame to lose Kapil about 3 overs from the close. He displayed maturity and was justifying his call up when he was adjudged lbw to Wagg. I thought it was fair enough but he seemed surprised. He was certainly some way down the wicket, probably one that wouldn't have been given a decade ago. This led to the arrival and almost immediate departure of nightwatchman Meaker. I rarely like the use of a nightwatchman and today was no exception. For the first ball of the final over, all the field went back and Ansari took an easy single. The very next ball Meaker was lbw (he didn't like that decision at all). Some in the crowd were critical of Ansari getting off strike and exposing Meaker but surely that's what the nightwatchman is for. I just wish we hadn't bothered and had kept Wilson at number 7.
Anyway, Ansari and the remaining batsmen go again tomorrow. Very hard to say what should be a par score although I would have a wild guess at 360. I would have said a bit more than that in previous seasons - one reason for a highish score at Guildford is that it's a small ground. However, I've pegged the total back a bit as most CC games have previously been played in July when the outfield has been quicker.

JimBob - you'll at least approve that we seem to be trying for a 4th batting point. Both Wilson and TC playing with attacking intent.

Re: Surrey vs Glamorgan LV=County Championship
Scrub that, JimBob. The batsmen had a lengthy chat an over or so ago and now appear content just to stay there and bat on. That may stop Glam getting a 3rd bowling point which is not a bad thing.
