Miuller playing excellent stuff. He'll be a man the top seeds will not want at all

Second set much closer but Federer stepped it up in the TB.
Time to check how Mr. Murray is doing.

Muller is ranked 48.So any top player could get him second round I think.

Couldn't they get him in the first round?

Isn't round 3 top 32. So round 2 top 64? Not sure. It's a horrible draw either way

He has a good game for grass. Serves big and volleys very good as well. However, over five sets I am not sure he could bring down the very best.

Karl's if is ranked 27 soo he's probably a third round nightmare, if he gets it together for once. Tsonga is a r16 floater too. Yeesh

Yes fair point, I never claim to speak for anyone other than myself on this issue, we all have our different tastes.JuliusHMarx wrote:This is why we all love 606v2. Because whenever anyone says they enjoy any particular style of tennis, others will surely come along to say it's dull as dishwater.

No, there are only 32 seeds so any of the seeds can play anyone ranked below that in R1.

Quite. The player ranked 33 (or whatever actual rank just misses out on seeding) could draw the top seed in R1. They wouldn't be happy. Especially if the ones drawn next are WC v WC.

I've overdone it on the aces. I'd forgotten Ivo is actually pretty tough to ace. Fed has 0 so far but a lot of unreturned serves.

Anderson into the final at Queen's, congrats to him. He serves 36 aces in the match!
I like Simon, and like the way he plays here, shows off some tricks at the net, some varieties and some great tennis. Too bad, he has to face a guy who serves so well and who fights so hard to win.

Its starting to get hard for Ivo to out ace his age. He could play into his 40's if he went into a proper doubles careerHaddie-nuff wrote:Calder106 wrote:laverfan wrote:Well played, Old Man.

Federer took the first set 7-6 (7-1) against Seppi.
He faced and saved 3 BP in that set, while not having a single break opportunity himself - poor Seppi.

Obvious Federer has the yips in his technique, it would be embarrassing for Seppi if he doesn't win a set.

Really good match this. Both players producing exceptional tennis. The worry for Fed is that, on courts this quick, his relatively weak return gets badly exposed. He hasn't created a break point since the QF. I suspect he will be happier to get to the slightly slower grass at Wimbledon!

Re: Halle/Queens and Pre-Wimbledon Thread
His main reason for failing to break (until the last game) was wastefulness on 2nd serves.
Generally quite a sloppy match by Federer. Still, he wins the tournament again.

Re: Halle/Queens and Pre-Wimbledon Thread
Somehow Seppi trips himself up serving at 4-5 in this 'Strong' era
Key to the match was saving a few break points with classic serving
I'd be surprised if Murray or Djokovic could lose more than 1 set to the old man though

Re: Halle/Queens and Pre-Wimbledon Thread
This strikes me to be almost the exact opposite of how things really are. Fed's return is weaker on slower surfaces because he chips it too much whereas top returners will do more with it. The faster the surface and the bigger the server, the relatively better Fed's return is because in those conditions the chip return is more useful.Born Slippy wrote:The worry for Fed is that, on courts this quick, his relatively weak return gets badly exposed.

He first won Halle in 2003. I wonder if anyone else has won the same tournament 12 years after first winning it. Maybe Connors or Agassi might have done it.

Maybe Rosewall, in the 1970s.

Not Connors or Agassi or Lendl. Rosewall counts if you consider the Australian Championships (1953) and the Australian Open (1972) as the same event.
Probably not been done before in the Open Era alone.

It is not just the return, but also the BH which he is just pulling around to keep the ball in play. Seppi kept hammering the BH and would hit a winner CC or BHDTL when Federer put up a mid-court ball.
Seppi should have won the first set, rather unfortunate not to.

Clinical first set from Murray. As you'd expect, for the most part, Anderson holding serve comfortably, but one loose service game and Murray pounced.

From Wikipedia for Agassi:
Agassi has 13 year gap in Miami (1990 and 2003) and maybe some other smaller tournaments - did not check everything.

Magical return game from Andy and it's a set and a break. He's really looking very sharp today. One unbelievable get off a wide first serve for a DTL winner. This kind of form bodes well for Wimby.

Possibly the only thing missing (so far, I hasten to add) is a genuine competitive edge. Anderson not playing badly at all, but has been totally outclassed.
