Promising Young Players Thread
If your eye is caught by a young cricketer on your travels, place their name and your thoughts here.
Then in 2/3 years time when they're scoring runs or taking wickets you can smugly come back and say "hey look how clever I was"

Re: Promising Young Players Thread
I pushed Joe Root's case five years ago on either this or the old board. To balance I also pushed Moin Ashraf.
I guess atm I would ask you to watch out for Will Rhodes (nickname Wilf) a batting all-rounder who can open the innings or come in down the order and bowl brisk seam, and Matthew Fisher. A 17yo quick bowler, Fisher made his first team debut aged just 15 in 2013. Rules regarding minors in the workplace limited his opportunities he is now a regular in our T20 side. He bowls at speeds around 85mph and should get quicker as his body fills out, and swings the ball both ways. Sits his A levels next summer, and should by then be a regular fixture in our CC team.

Probably quite an obvious one coming from a Bears fan, but Sam Hain looks a real prospect for the future. I've only seen him bat once, against Notts last year when he scored 60 odd but he looked to have a good, solid technique, a little 'Trottesque'. Youngest Warks. player to score a FC century and double century, highest run scorer for Warks. last year. Still only 19, he's been out injured recently, but is playing again in the 2nd's (according to cricinfo) so should be back soon. Hopefully he can pick up where he left off.

Ok my next Norfolk one....
Matthew Plater - batsmen who can also keep, currently with northants playing in the 2nd xi. He'll be doing well before long

Jamie Overton was impressive today. Bowled quick and spitefully. Still hunting for complete control, but he only turned 21 in April. Can see why England like him. Hits a long ball too!

Corporal - as you're the fine man you are, I'll let you have that.
Looking further afield than Surrey for once, I'll give a shout to Glamorgan off spinner Andrew Salter. He's only 22 and his stats are nothing special as yet. However, I watched him at Guildford the other week and liked what I saw. The track didn't offer much for spinners but he compensated with nice flight and variations in pace. The only thing he seemed to lack in that match was luck! Well regarded as well by the Glamorgan faithful and currently keeping the canny veteran Cosker out of the 4 day side which suggests something.

Re: Promising Young Players Thread
I'm pretty sure Pack has already mentioned him on another thread, but Tom Fell is a very promising young batsman. Classy player.
Re: Promising Young Players Thread
Looks like Hain has picked up where he left off, despite a duck in his first innings back. A ton in his second, allbeit in a losing cause.

Re: Promising Young Players Thread
Gonna be so so hipster here and suggest two youngsters at my club.
Oscar Binny - 15
Callum Metcalf -13
Both play county cricket for Norfolk, and are in our clubs second xi. Amazing players, with great potential especially Cal

103 not out for Sam Hain in the 1st innings against Somerset, now averaging over 52 this season with 2 centuries and 3 50s in 11 innings (with the 11th innings being the 10 not out to win the game in the 2nd innings)

He's in some serious nick at the moment
Re: Promising Young Players Thread
Not sure he'll be playing for Worcs next year though, from the rumours circulating...

Couldn't possibly comment. But a team beginning with W has offered him a four year deal (allegedly) and it isn't Worcs!

Either I was completely wrong or Joe Clarke has shown some loyalty! Either way, good on him!

Re: Promising Young Players Thread
Tempted to suggest Freddie van den Bergh (aka the Burger Van). He's certainly been taking plenty of wickets in Surrey 2nd XI this season. Not sure that JDizzle will second that nomination and, to be fair, Freddie hasn't had the opportunity yet to see whether he can translate this kind of form to the first team. Hopefully, if Surrey can ensure promotion in the cc with a game or two to spare, Freddie could be given a spin in the first team.

An update - Callum who is now 14, is playing in our first XI - he bats at 3, and opens the bowling. Ridiculous talent - the level of cricket is decent, I mean Tino Best is playing in the same league, and a few other ex county pros - and Callum is more than holding his own!
