Joshua vs Cornish
Thoughts? Definitely a live opponent at the very least.

Don't mind this opponent to be honest, tried to get Dillian Whyte who wouldn't play ball.

I've seen Cornish he looks very green, fights with his hand low. Can't see him doing much but fair play for taking the fight especially as he stands to lose his '0'.

Re: Joshua vs Cornish
Whyte will happen later in the year I believe but he has been out of action for a while and wants more preparation.
Hearn did mention after the unstoppable Kingpin Johnson just got stopped that they would be announcing a "big" name for September. I didnt figure Whyte or Cornish was meant to fit that bill.

I think it's a step in the right direction. I think Whyte's trainer has been badly hurt in a car crash as well, but will look forward to that one as well.

Cornish isn't ready for Joshua and isn't likely to be down the line. Gilmour is building him ever so slowly, with the long-term aim a British title fight. I think they're talking John McDermott next - which shows you where he's at.
Whyte and Hughie Fury would be better unbeaten Brits for Joshua to test himself against.

Re: Joshua vs Cornish
Sure he'd jump at the chance though even if it does derail his development
Haven't seen much of Cornish, but the man is huge, whats he like 6ft 7/8, much bigger than anyone Joshua has fought before and a good stay busy fight for him, may actually see him roughed up a little bit hopefully.
Joshua doesn't need to rush but can be fast tracked, british title shouldn't really appeal that much to him ,would be disappointed if he wasn't getting a title shot before the close of next year

He's spent the last year hearing how wonderful Joshua is on SKY......Being told ad nauseum how he's a former Olympic champ and no doubt reading sites like this, where we have already given Joshua World dominance...
If he doesn't crap himself and freeze I'll be astonished..

Not a terrible fight but was really hoping it was going to be Wach as suggested. Not really the big name we were promised. Also, is Whyte classed as a big name? The only reason that casuals would know his name is because Hearn and Sky never stop mentioning him.
I reckon Joshua takes this in 2.

On one hand people complain that Smith and Fielding haven't fought yet but those same people then complain when Joshua signs to fight a domestic rival with another one lined up afterwards.

Joshua-Cornish is more like Fielding-Blackledge than Fielding-Smith; I know it's a decent fight but it doesn't excite me. Cornish has shown nothing to prove he can rival Joshua.

People are disappointed as Cornish is cannon fodder. Pointless fight even as a stay busy exercise.

I doubt you've ever watched him but then again you think the number Frampton is fighting is acceptable. I've said from the start I wanted AJs next three to be Cornish, Price and Whyte.

I didn't realise he was in the frame for AJ's next fight! I would be gobsmacked if that was the case but I'd like to see it. Cornish then Whyte would be ideal.

Re: Joshua vs Cornish
Good to see AJ in with someone similarly big, strong & athletic as he.
I suspect there's still a bit of a gulf between them though, which will show, but good fight all the same. Hopefully followed up with the Whyte grudge match and then Wach ideally.

Re: Joshua vs Cornish
I'd be absolutely gobsmacked if Gilmour fed him to Joshua. They've built Cornish up extremely carefully. That would smack of cashing out.
I don't think he'd stand a chance at this stage. Quick night for Joshua - but at least Cornish would be there to win.

Can't say I'm overly enamoured about this fight, thought it'd be Wach.
Still, as most have said at least he'll come and give it a go. Never know, Joshua may even get tagged and we get to find out something new about him other than he has a humungousssss right hand.

You should know all about there being nothing wrong with a big man being sloppy Truss

Re: Joshua vs Cornish
So at the beginning of 2015, we were talking about AJ being primed for a world title tilt by 2016, and looking to revolutionise the division.
After fighting Jasen Gavern, Zumbano Love and Kevin Johnson and by mid 2015, we are looking at his next 3 fights being Gary Cornish, Dilian Whyte and Marius Wach.
I just dont know if they are strong enough fights for AJ to be in position to take on the world in 2016.....

Re: Joshua vs Cornish
Wilder did it with a worse run than that so why not?
Joshua could beat Wilder now, no doubt in my mind about that. Povetkin will get there first though and that's a tougher fight that he isn't ready for now.

Don't see why AJ has to be the first modern heavy to clean out the division before winning a title...
Lewis best win was Mason.....
Tyson's was Tillis....
Bowe's was a declining Tubbs who should have got at least a draw..

Not expecting a clear out Truss, just a higher calibre of opponent, maybe step it up this year with potentially a pop at the winner of Price v Erkan Teper, before the end of 2016? European belt.

Looks like Cornish is in for Sep 12. Amazed at that decision - don't think Gary's ready.
Good matchmaking from Hearn, though. Cornish then Whyte are great calls.

Pity the Hughie Fury fight won't happen.
Could fight for Tyson's vacated British title.

About time Gary Cornish stepped-up. This is the perfect move for him to gate-crash the Heavyweight title party.
