He got the bullet from B&Q about 2 or 3 years ago - and he was only CEO for about 18 months anyway.

With his HR background he looks to be a good fit for WRU though.

They're both Retailers so yeah. Maybe a Rugby CEO shouldn't be a bottom-dollar number crunching retailer?

Personal experience of B+Q is that despite what they say there are usually cheaper alternatives. They do tend to have a good range of stuff though

I think Wales would have preferred somebody with more of a rugby background. That way they might show empathy to the development of the game rather than pay off loans.

It's pretty laughable that the wail were trying to pass him off as a man with a rugby background. Doesn't seem to really be the case, bar he played for Welsh schools and did a few bits here and there.

I still think he will be a more positive bloke than Rog though.

They should have gone for a professional sports administrator - possibly from another sport so as to avoid the tribalism within Welsh rugby. Philip Browne's (IRFU CEO for last 15 years or so) background is in rowing and he is a very able CEO. Ian Richie of RFU who seems to be highly rated didn't have a rugby background.

"Ian Ritchie is a man of great experience in sporting administration. A barrister by training, he's been a director of Wembley Stadium and the Football League. And he's been at the All England Club masterminding the annual tennis championships at Wimbledon for the past six years."

Looks like the incoming CEO has been down in West Wales this week meeting the head of PRW.

Hopefully the beginning of a nice new relationship.

I wish him well.

We don't need a "rugby man" who will kowtow to the amateur blazer brigade. We need a reformer who can create a vision and execute it for the professional era. No small task....

You don't need a rugby man. You do need a reformer.

I give you the perfect man for the job:

Roger Lewis!!!!!!!
WRU Group Chief ExecutiveBoard Director, Welsh Rugby Union LimitedBoard Director, Millennium Stadium plcRoger Lewis was appointed Group Chief Executive of the Welsh Rugby Union and the Millennium Stadium in 2006. He returned home to Wales from London in 2004 to take up the position of Managing Director of ITV Wales.

Immediately prior to this, between 1998 and 2004, he was the Managing Director and Programme Controller of Classic FM and a Board Director of its parent company GWR plc. Between 1990 and 1998, Roger worked in the record industry as a Managing Director at EMI Records and as the world wide President of the Decca Record Company.

He spent the 1980's in radio. Between 1985 and 1990 he was a producer at BBC Radio 1 and then Head of the BBC Radio 1 Music Department. Between 1981 and 1985, he worked in commercial radio at Capital Radio, London, as a producer, and at Radio Tees, in the North East. Roger studied music at the University of Nottingham, graduating in 1976 with a B.Mus (Hons). He worked as a musician between 1976 and 1980.

Over the past twenty years Roger has held a number of non-executive positions in the private, public and voluntary sectors, including that of Chair of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, Chair of the Ogmore Education Centre Trust, Chair of the Music and Dance Scheme at the DFES, Chair of the BPI Classical Committee, and Chair of Arts and Business Cymru , as well as Deputy Chair of Boosey and Hawkes.

He has also held a number of non-executive directorships and trusteeships, including the Barchester Group, the Beacon Fellowship, Liverpool Capital of Culture and the Wales Millennium Centre.

Roger was a member of the Welsh Assembly Government's Arts Funding Review Panel in 2006. In 2010/11 he chaired the successful cross-party Yes Campaign in the referendum in Wales which granted certain law making powers to the Welsh Assembly.

Currently he sits on the advisory board of the D Group, is the Chair of the International Advisory Board of Cardiff University Business School and a non-executive director of the Six Nations and European Rugby Cup Ltd and Celtic Rugby Ltd.
