This will be a tremendous battle - really looking forward to it. First major test for LSC. Mares has taken on some of the toughest competition of any fighter - at any weight.

Good question.
If it is, I may have to get it just to watch this fight.

Amazed there hasn't been more debate on this potential FOY. Maybe Mares should slap Shane Mosley's girlfriend's butt?
LSC 13-to-8 on favourite - are those odds about right?

Got experts divided just about right down the middle. Should be fun.

Really impressed with BT SPORT currently. Show some great events such as boxing and champions league along with Rhonda Rousey in pants.
I get it with my virgin large TV package free. Just have to pay stupidness for the bloody Sky Sports!!!
To be fair though, i love it.....no matter how much it costs.

I have BT - this is a cracking reward for their hopeless service!
I checked out a Vlog by Al Bernstein last night which is tilting me towards Mares!

Mares should win this really, but got a feeling he might not be as up for it as he should be. If Mares is unhurt after five rounds he runs away with it

Nobody on this thread to make a bold prediction yet.
Is everyone sitting on the fence?.....
Hard to call this one, isn't it!!

I'll stick my neck out and Go for Mares, I think he will be a bit too clever for Santa Cruz
What a superb fight though!

Re: Santa cruz vs Mares
Im going for Mares, even though he got k.od 1st round to Gonzalez, i'm fancying his chances simply due to his bullish boxing style, I feel he will overwhelm Santa Cruz, who recently has had laughable opponents, also what sways me towards Mares is the fact Santa Cruz will be going up to 126 pounds for this fight.

Re: Santa cruz vs Mares
Paul Wheeler in BN - who is on a ridiculous streak of correct predictions - is tipping LSC on points. I'm still leaning towards that but may switch to Mares yet. It's one of those fights!

Hugo Ruiz is fighting Julio Ceja on the undercard. That should be explosive.

Re: Santa cruz vs Mares
Gonna go for Santa Cruz stoppage, in the last rounds or so. I can see him setting the pace and the ref seeing enough towards the end. Pundits seem split down the middle, or ever so slightly leaning towards Mares.

Re: Santa cruz vs Mares
I want Mares to win and think he should but if it goes the distance I can't see him getting the decision so LSC by split or majority seems like the sensible money call to me.

Re: Santa cruz vs Mares
Going for an Abner Mares wide decision. Never really been impressed by LSC and think Frampton smashes him.....I'd even go as far to say Quigg would as well. Just seems a bit too flat footed and open to shots....Mares is a very cute fighter so can see him out shooting LSC here....IF he paces himself.....if he doesn't then LSC wins a close decision.
But I'm putting money on Mares points

Re: Santa cruz vs Mares
Going for a LSC decision. He has size, youth and that mindset of an unbeaten fighter. Mares will give him a fight, though. A real test this.

Re: Santa cruz vs Mares
Yep after the weigh in I'm feeling a Mares win.
Anyone seen Mayorga weigh in at 165.4lbs?! Mosley was 159lbs
What a joke fight

I am leaning towards Mares in this. Just think he has too much for LSC overall. TKO11.

There's nothing like a scrap between two power punchers - two enormous left hooks!
Great card that - best for PBC so far. Shame it's been overshadowed by the drug cheat beating on a deadbeat.

Re: Santa cruz vs Mares
Very very fun fight to watch last night!!! The only problem was Mares gameplan as if mentioned earlier!!!
He is cute enough to outbox Cruz and win a wide UD but if he doesn't pace himself the Cruz will sneak a close one....
Then Mares comes out like a rocket for 4 rounds and is gassed by 7!!!!
Brilliant fight though. Hope for a rematch.

Great PBC card the best ive seen yet from them. The Ceja v Ruiz fight was very fun to watch and the main event was great. I didnt get Mares gameplan at all but well done to Santa Cruz he won by 4 rounds on my card

Re: Santa cruz vs Mares
Great performance by santa cruz I severely underestimated his defence he blocked and slipped a lot of shots
Mares tried his best but got caught on the way in and couldn't really string anything together that landed cleanly
Loved teddy atlas's commentary the apples and the hill were my personal highlight

Re: Santa cruz vs Mares
I think a lot of people were thinking Leo was a mini Tony, one-dimensional plodder, but he's got a lot more skills than Tony. I do love a pressure fighter who doesn't take a lot of flush shots, there aren't to many of them around. He's got a solid chin when the odd one gets through and he never stops chucking. He loves to get involved too.
I thought it was a good rather than great fight, after the first round thought it was going to be a classic.
Not saying he can beat Russell but with Lomachenko seemingly out of the picture with Uncle Bob, him and Russell looks like the buzz fight. Exciting division, love to see him fight Selby too, Selby against Russell would be a fascinating fight as well. I can't see L eo not wanting to take on the big guns, that would be against his nature. Wonder if he can beat a slickster, wouldn't put it past him, he knows what he's doing inside a ring.
Win or lose, he'll always be a good watch Santa Cruz.
