Halfpenny injured!
Doesn't good great. He's going to be stretchered off too.
Jesus christ, it will be Biggar next.

Shame, now Cuthbert has to stay on. It's not been a good day for Wales! Amos into the starting team next week with Williams on the bench.

Some young and inexperienced players need to step up big time, really doesn't look good.
Hope Halfpenny can somehow turn it around in 3 weeks, but doesn't look likely.

Looks like a bad sprain of a cruciate ligament to me. Anything from 6 weeks to 6 months on that is my professional opinion. Oxygen isn't a good sign, a little tweak and he might've made it to the cup.

Hard to find a positive in that game. They are both big players. We can only hope that things are not as bad as they look for both of them.

A win is a win i suppose. But if i was a welsh fan i would not be too happy with that performance to be honest.
I thought Italy played very very well and deserved to win in my opinion.
I guess Gatland will say we have work to do be for the RWC.

Naholo recovered from a whole broken leg in three weeks. Reckon Halfpennie can get over a twisted knee with a bit of a Fijian

All Black winger Naholo broke his leg in the rugby championship but has made a miraculous recovering to make the world cup squad after going back to Fiji and using some herbal medicine.

Gareth Anscombe can play full back and is a decent kicker. Reckon he missed out as he is halfpenny-light. He's dogs to dollars in the picture now.

you what?
While it is absolutely terrible for both LH and RW that they will be denied the opportunity to play in a WC, from a Welsh perspective them being unavailable will be irrelevant based on that performance.
Far more concerned by the scrum and the general lethargy of this team. What is it with us that, as a nation, we cant seem to get up for these sort of games. The best in the world consistently put these teams to the sword and do not let their standards drop. It is pee poor for a country, for which, rugby is supposed to be the national sport.
People will talk bollox about why Gatland played our best players in this game, its irrelevant. They are two individuals (one world class and one very good). I believe Gareth Davies will do fine and I actually think Liam Williams, if fit, will be an improvement from an attacking perspective.
We will miss halfpenny when it comes to his goal kicking. But you need to win penalties or score tries for you to have a shot at goal and on this evenings showing, we won't do either against Aus or England!

Re: Wales vs Italy September 5th Cardiff
Right where to start,
Firstly whether they are fit for the tournament or not (hope they are) but best wishes to Webb and Halfpenny with their injuries and recovery.
On to the game, what an utterly shocking and shambolic performance today. No disrespect to Italy but with what 9/10 probable first teamers in the starting line up we should have been able to beat them more comfortably than we did.
The scrums were appalling no matter who was on the pitch:
AWJ and Charteris are way ahead our first pairing and whilst I always liked Jake Ball I think Davies is now firmly next in line.
We missed Lydiate hugely today people have been so concerned with trying to get Warburton (who I thought was one of only 2 players to have good game) and Tipuric into the team they forget or just don't realise how much work Dan does. Most of our attacks actually start from his defence.
Missed Roberts hugely as well and Scott Williams was the other one who I thought had great game and hope him and Roberts can form a good partnership.
I have in the past tried to defend Cuthbert but he has done himself no favours whatsoever and is just trying to hard to justify his selection.
Onto the injuries and whilst they are both a big loss they are not irreplaceable, Li Williams will come into XV and actually offers a more attacking threat and G Davies is himself a very very play with pace and speed of pass we need.
If the injuries are worst case then I guess Phillips will be re-called for Webb but not sure who he may call up for Halfpenny

The match was not televised over here in the colonies. So I didn't see the injuries. Webb is an ankle? How did it happen? And Halfpenny? Went off under oxy? What happened?

Webb was caught at bottom of pile up just fell awkward suspected broken ankle, Halfpenny just seemed to over stretch/slipped awkward etc no one else involved.

Hopefully the match will be posted somewhere. The scary picture you paint about Halfpenny combined with the pictures of him being carted off is classic ACL tear. Hopefully a sprain and back in a few weeks (hopefully the week after playing England).bedfordwelsh wrote:Webb was caught at bottom of pile up just fell awkward suspected broken ankle, Halfpenny just seemed to over stretch/slipped awkward etc no one else involved.

Both were in a lot of pain, Halfpenny probably has a slightly better chance, but I can't really see either being fit for the WC and will be surprised if we see Webb playing before Christmas.

Probably, but it is going to be a tough decision for the coaches, if more players get injured or pick up short term niggles there could be big problems.
Morgan and Amos can play FB - but really I would only trust L.Williams to play there against England/Aus,

Re: Wales vs Italy September 5th Cardiff
Just read the thinking is possible ACL for Halfpenny. You can usually tell if that is the preliminary diagnosis if the scan is delayed by 24 or 48 hours. Doesn't mean it's a tear and not a sprain, but for clarity about soft tissue. Again, hoping for the best.wales606 wrote:doctor_grey wrote:Hopefully the match will be posted somewhere. Totaly agree with you, Wales should of put Italy to the sword today.
Some of Wales first choice players did not show up today. Warburton in my opinion had a very good game, seeing that he has just returned from injury.
I do hope that Halfpenny and Webb will be all right.
Surely Cuthbert played him self out of the team/squad today?
With this being the last warm up game before the RWC (Surely) there will be concerns over the performance of the Welsh team today. Don't you think?

maj, for most Cuthbert played himself out of the team last year! Gatland has been desperately wanting his form to return but it isn't happening. I would forget about him and give Amos a chance.

I don't see either Webb and Halfpenny being that big losses for Wales, Gareth Davies in form is a better player than Webb, Biggar is as good a place kicker if not better than Halfpenny and Liam Williams is a better overall fullback than the man with the golden boots..
