Bogbrush, is Murray playing better than Nadal did yesterday ?
No, not better. More to his game though.
From what I've seen so far Murray's playing a lot better than Nadal did yesterday; but I suppose I didn't catch the first 2 sets. Murray seems really pumped.

Murray is so so fast, surely the quickest player on tour atm.

Be surprised if Mannarino wins another game here. Definitely can't see him troubling Murray from here on.

Shame there isn't a choke valve for tennis players!

Just now I'd settle for Murray managing to protect that long run of slam QF's in slams he has entered.

If Murray loses early here, it'll be another year in his row where his best slam performances have come at the French Open.

Yes, but I personally thought he was stronger in the French Open. He took Djokovic to 5 in the French, but collapsed in 4 sets at the Aus Open. I said performances, not results in that post.legendkillarV2 wrote:Eh? He reached the AO final this year!

Tonight is a perfect example of why the equal prize money debate should be nothing to do with 5 sets vs 3 sets.
Best of 5 in this case is not Murray having to work harder for his money. Tonight, bo5 was his lifeline to larger winnings because he would have been knocked out in bo3.

Well for once I agree with Greg on Sky Sports. Murray found himself in the predicament because Mannerino was playing well and he was playing too deep and not coming forward (too passive I think we can take that as). Plus (in my opinion) his service returns were very poor.

But it's not been changed by a switch in play but by the other guy running out of gas.

This is a shame for mannarino. It happened to him against Lopez too. This is what all those hours of work are for

I'd agree with that. Murray has dug himself out of a hole playing in second gear in stifling hot conditions - that deserves credit though his level of play has not been what I want to see. Too passive sadly.

Because of stifling conditions? Or at least aided by?CaledonianCraig wrote:temporary21 wrote:The change has Been just not giving up. Some of the points in the third were magic.

I'm cheesed off with Murray really, he's getting less aggressive it seems.

Sometimes you just have to grit your teeth and fight. That typifies tennis perfectly. You can play two perfect sets but you'll lose if you don't play another. It's a game of consustency and fight. We can't be annoyed at Andy doing the work off court and being tough enough to get it done when playing badly

I agree with regards the aggression. However, your first point I disagree with. He had the balls to dig himself out of a hole despite playing nowhere near his best. I can't think of many players out there who could do that so that merits credit.

Re: US Open Day 4 - Anyone coming to my Haase (or even Mahut) for a Knapp? (Everybody Wang Chung tonight)
He wasn't playing very well. But he didn't just throw in the towel. He threw himself at everything just to see if he could buy enough time to throw off his opponent. Ultimately his opponent wasn't good enough And had t done enough work off court. Murray forced a better level from him

Sometimes you have to win ugly. Murray tends to be insipid in hot conditions so just pleased he came through. A better performance against TB would be most helpful to his chances!

Nice and easy for Roger.
Normally I would be disappointed that Andy did not lose but I am going to the USO this Saturday and it works out better for me if he is there.

Well right now there only looks 2 candidates for the final. To Muzzahs credit he still at least has the liberty of worrying about it.
A fitting send off for LLeyton, he and Muzz are the kings of the comeback.

I did not see Andy play but an early round 5-setter does not need to mean much. Nole had to come back from 0-2 against Anderson at Wimbledon and in the end won it comfortably.temporary21 wrote:Well right now there only looks 2 candidates for the final.
From the bottom half I can see any of Federer, Andy or Stan advancing. Would be very surprised by anyone else.
From the top half I would be surprised if anyone beat Nole (though I am hoping for Seppi tomorrow).

Not too often Nike get both Federer and Nadal's gear just right during a Major. This is one of those times. Nike is on fire. THat Federer chap isn't playing too badly himself, although his shorts seem t be getting to Rafa territory.
