Don't get to keep it Inco, stays in the club because it's worth a bit. Will most likely get something ghastly at the Annual Prizegiving.
Most looking forward to seeing my name on timber.

As far as I know the only other club champ in our ranks was GW many years ago. This is a big moment in your life and you shouldn't shy away from enjoying it.
Not that I post on here that often but I won my club champs twice, in 2012 & 2013 (got knocked out in last 16 this year). It is a good personal achievement and, as Super says, the best part is seeing your name on the board and knowing it will be there forever. Where did you play as a junior mac?

Not that it'd happen, but I'd celebrate probably only at the club on the day and/or presentation as it wouldn't mean much to non golfers outside that environment, although as quite a lot also frequent a local hostelry I go to, I'd go there too.
Is something to be proud of though and something I would expect parents would be proud of whatever age you are to gather and keep any press cuttings of it. Although I would stop short of a specific family and or friends celebration.

Mac, successful sportspeople tend to have a recognizable kind of mindset. You can identify them. You're more of a 'it really would be great if I could be in the cool gang' kind of guy

There was a guy at my school, Gary, who wore massive glasses, had a big lithp, and was half the size of everyone else. Really nice kid, and now a nice man. He loved football and you've never seen anyone try harder than him. But, he was utterly useless bless him.

No probs mac, I didn't broadcast it on here at the time! A good pi$$-up in the club on the night then at the presentation night at the end of the season was as wild as it got, with family & friends from the club, as you say most people outwith those circles wouldn't care that much about it.

Made a slight grip adjustment on Saturday playing at The Castle. Tees were abouyt as far back as they can go and it was pretty windy. Still hit a few shots to the right, but not as many as I should. Hit a few highly memorable irons in tight and got round in 3 over. A very respectable score on a course as tough as that.

Re: Tell us about your game today...
Played yesterday for only the second time this season. Ten inches of rain in just over a month have left the course in a morass, the slightly clayey soil doesn't drain well and lots of standing water. Playing companion's striped drive on #1, straight down the middle. Splat; never found it.
Needless to say, not good for the strongest part of my game, roll. Played from the 6,200 yd tees but might just as well have been 8,200 yds.
Not playing today as another gully-washer is stationed overhead.
I see the temps are in the no-nonsense nineties at Wimbledon. Yet I'm sure any rain at Flushing Meadow's US Open will invoke local media reports of "Wimbledon weather".

Agreed Davie; US stereotypical griping about British weather is incredibly annoying. Don't agree with lots on the latest v2 spat about "America", but some of the institutional ignorance about "Europe" and Britain is incredibly aggravating.

Yeah, it is annoying. We've got a pretty stable climate. Mild winters, and mild summers. America has some truly terrible weather but they seem to forget that.
It's a bit like when the English always think it's rain and cold in Scotland.

Re: Tell us about your game today...
So...a few days late in reporting. After a 1st round bye then our 2nd round opponents pulling out we finally began the defence of our 4bbb title on Friday.
First thing first, handicap declarations my partner 0 me 5 our opponents 6 & 12...12?? "Are you sure? "" yeah" "ok I though you were 11" "no I had a bad club champs and went up"
So to the action, slow start by U.S. and after 3 holes our opponents were 2 up. Then we settled I got one back with a net bird at 4 and the same again at 9 to square the match. Decent golf all round but none of the 4 of us were dropping putts.
Took a gamble on 10 and pumped a 3 wood to the middle of the green, the eagle putt had what can only be described as a slow motion lip out (how?) Safe birdie though only to be equalled by the 6 hcp rolling in a 25 footer for half, we went through the next 4 all square with some great up & downs and long par putts. On 15 me and my partner both missed 6 footers for a half so one down again. Partner got it back to all square on the par 5 17th with a tap in birdie after being safely on in 2. Then we blew it, I cuffed a 3 wood about 50 yds (trying to shot shape in cross wind) partner cres a rescue through the dogleg into deep bundai (280-285 yard carry...wtf!!). So game over....or so we thought. On checking the medal scores from Sat (the day after I noticed that the 12hcp was still 11.5 (despite shooting a net 75 (I was in his group on the Sat so I knew his score. So that meant that on the Friday he should have been off 11 (therefore 8 shots not 9 given (he got a half with a net par on stroke 9)
So...what to do, just had the handicap and competition committee come back to us with a decision. Interested to hear what people think that decision should be and why.

Re: Tell us about your game today...
A few years ago I was off 6.6 and played a singles match at my home club on a Monday night which I won comfortably. The day before I had played a qualifier at my away club and shot a nett 73. Unbeknown to me the CSS was unusually high that day at 74 and therefore a 0.2 cut meant that I should have played off 6 and not 7 on the Monday night.
Although the additional one shot would have made no difference to the match result the competitions committee at my home club disqualified me as I had played off an incorrect handicap and my beaten opponent went through to the next round. I held my hands up and accepted that decision, but only after having to assure the competitions chairman that there was certainly never any intention to deceive.
I think that was the right decision as it was an error on my part and I assume that a dq and walk over would be the same in your case as barra has suggested. I have a funny feeling though that this is not the concluusion your competition committee has come to and would be interested to hear if it is any different.

Re: Tell us about your game today...
Is there not a board/list/central handicap information in the clubhouse that you check prior to commencement of play? Whatever is on ours is the arbiter if away results haven't worked through. I had a similar situation last year when oppo claimed to have had an away 0.1 that would have taken him up a shot, but as it hadn't worked through he had to go off the "official" club handicap list on our board which had him at the lower h/cap (made no difference in the end I lost either way!)
Sorry JAS, I couldn't get my head round his 11.5 not being 12 in your description. I guess I've missed something or read it wrong! If, say, his 75 was versus a CSS of 73 he'd have buffered and so not gone up meaning his 11.5 on Sat would have been the same 11.5 before you played on Friday, meaning it was right? Even if CSS was 72, he might have also had a stableford adjustment to buffer him? Sorry again, probably me being thick...
Anyhoo [sic] - I'd guess (assuming he should have been 11) they would get dq and you win (al la Bluecover).
I could see an argument that you all agreed the shots ahead of play and so the result stands.
Not sure of the technicalities, let us know the wisdom from on high...

Re: Tell us about your game today...
Sorry Roller I didn't explain that bit very well. after he told me 12 on Friday I assumed he was on 11.5 (he was actually on 11.4) CSS was 71. Hence I expected him after Saturday's medal to be on 11.6.
So...technically once the result it posted that's it, it should stand (which is a cheats charter in my book). If the mistake is found before the result is posted its a DQ.
Anyway, with the guy being mortified at his error he said he would accept whatever the competition committee would decide as it wouldn't feel right to progress under those circumstances. They could as a pair have stuck to their guns and said no, results been posted its ours and the rule book actually backs that stance.
The decision made is that we resume the match from the 14th tee (which was stroke 9 - ie the hole with the extra shot he shouldn't have got). We were all square at that point and all 4 are happy to complete the match from that point. Ironically because he did actually go up the day after the match he will now get a shot on 14. However that is balanced by the fact that I've also gone up to 6 and so get a shot on 17 (s.i.5)

I think that the decision made by your committee is fair. They have used their discretion under Rule 33-7 although strictly the other pair should have been disqualified under Rule 6-2 a.
Yours in pedantry

Glad he was mortified at his error and didn't simply want the result to stand, sensible approach in the technical circumstances. I think I'd have offered either you the game and a self dq before the decision.
Interesting (and I think good) that the H&C committee steered away from what I think was said that the rules actually back up being that the original result stands.
Another excuse to get on the course!
Pul - I didn't realise responsibility was split on whether you went down or up (although it does make sense to prevent you gaining shots you shouldn't have any more)

Got back last night from a comp at Silloth on Solway. Course won! Not somewhere you will pass through, but if you get a chance to play it do - really good links course.
Watched a bit of the golf from Gullane last night - it too looks excellent, and on my list to play. I did wonder where the rough was, let alone heather and deep gorse - by comparison with Silloth! Would have loved some of those lies a few yards off the fairways! Hey ho!

Re: Tell us about your game today...
A busy weekend of golf for me starting on Friday in an invitation day at Romford GC. Shot a 76 gross but with 5 birdies there were more than a few mistakes in there as well!
Saturday was a (Paul) Curry Cup match at Three Rivers which was one of the clubs where Grumps was a member during his time in Essex. Teams of 12, six foursomes matches in the morning and 12 single matches in the afternoon all off scratch, so 18 points available. We got a proper stuffing 14-4 overall, my partner and I were the only winners in the morning and in the afternoon I shot 75 to get a half against a 4 handicapper.
Yesterday played in a 36 hole scratch open at the beautiful Purdis Heath in Ipswich. One of the players in my group was a Suffolk county player so that was a good experience to be in his company. As you would expect the pins were in the most difficult positions they could be and it was extremely tricky if you got out of position. Didn't disgrace myself, shot 81 and 80 and made the buffer zone in the afternoon.

Re: Tell us about your game today...
Very strange match tonight. Giving 2 shots round my home course I missed a 3 footer for the win on 1, lost 2 to a par, halved 3 and lost 4 & 5 to be 3 down. Out of nowhere my opponent then lost a ball off the 6th tee, I birdied 7, he went ob on 8, into a ditch on 9, wild right on 10, doubled 11, I made a 20 footer to win 12 and we halved 13 (he got a shot). Halved 14 and he then put 2 ob on 15 to present me with the most unlikely 5&4 win. 7 holes in a row has to be a record for me!

Played yesterday, hitting 96. i'm not in the same league of some of you guys!
I just cannot keep the odd big score 7or8 off the card. I had a run of 3 pars, and 46 back nine - par 37. But with the 8 thrown in it just kills any chances of something pretty good.
Some very good shots and some very bad shots. But the weather was nice!

Re: Tell us about your game today...
Best away day of the year yesterday playing a club match at Sandford Springs.
I'd only been there once before many years ago so it was a bit of a new experience for me and we tried a new format of the match, playing them home and away, 8 pairs, but each match being played out over 18 holes, and holes won and lost counting rather than a match potentially finishing early.
After the home leg earlier in the year we were 12 holes up but with them having home advantage and only an average of 1.5 holes per match in the difference it was a close fought match with all to play for
I was in last group out and thought we had no idea of the overall score, we had a very tight game with never more than one hole in it, and at all sqaure with 2 to play I had to sink pressure putts on 1 and 18 to halve our match and the team won by just 4 holes!
Lovely course though and great weather - for those who don't know it, it is 3 loops of 9 holes that they mix and match. We played the Woods and the Lakes but the views of the 9 we didn't play (Parks) looked fabulous too. Pleasantly surprised at what a good course it was and I hope to go back there again some day
I'd only been there once before many years ago so it was a bit of a new experience for me and we tried a new format of the match, playing them home and away, 8 pairs, but each match being played out over 18 holes, and holes won and lost counting rather than a match potentially finishing early.

Re: Tell us about your game today...
Oh to put the 2 part of my game together. Last week shot a 76 hitting 13 greens in reg, just could not hole a putt and 2 fliers overshooting greens cost me a really good score. Yesterday in Captains Day another 76 but the only similarity was 2 fliers again costing me. 26 putts yesterday but only 5 greens in reg, never made so may up & downs in a round. One day I'll put the greens in reg together with nailing putts :-/ Big consolation though was that this weeks 76 net 70 was enough to secure the Past Captains trophy at the first time of asking.
Big hats off to the winner, a 12 year old 15 handicapper shooting an 80 net 65 for his first big win, calmly stroking in a 20 footer on the last. Pretty sure it won't be an isolated win last either. 2 years ago when I was Vice Capt I did some starting for a Tiny Tigers competition and i remember the kid, 10 at the time barely able to hit the ball 100 yards but still thought he had a tidy looking swing. Great to witness such progress especially as there's now an ever growing bunch of 8-10 year olds following in his footsteps, very healthy looking for the Club's junior section.

Strange experience for me today - I hit a green and lost the ball. No hazards in sight, just a patch of jungle 10 yards off the back. I had 160 to the flag into the breeze and punched a 6 iron. Saw it pitch quite close to the pin, and saw a second bounce but never saw the ball again. We won our match but what a fricking joke of a golf course.

What course was that SJ; Forrestor Park? Loughton? How Loughton gets to play in County comps I don't know. The greens were full of weeds, think dandelions and such like, when I played it a couple years ago.

Burnham-on-Crouch. I've never liked it there, and this was another reason to add to an already long list.

Hmm, could be a few holes from what I remember. I was a member there for a short time. Jacked in 3 Rivers for Burnham and then promptly moved to the states. Think I played there for about 4/5 months for about £150

I wouldn't play there for 4 or 5 minutes even if you paid me £150! It was the 10th fwiw, but if you can think of a few that speaks volumes. I don't blame you for wanting to get that far away!

I missed a practically straight 4 foot eagle putt on the 18th. And by missed I mean didn't even come close to touching the hole.
