Japan lineout on Scotland line. Lacey overruled touch judge who said it went too far!
Japan try from a perfect maul.

Sounds like a bit of controversy - was the ball kicked dead?

ITV are a commercial channel. They'll talk mostly to their biggest market audience. It's a natural.

That was a great mauling with a fake first up jumper at the lineout. Signs of a very well coached team

Lacey said it was in but the touch judge called it dead. Wouldn't call it controversial but haven't seen a replay.

Re: Scotland v Japan, 23 September
Clinical line-out, absolutely perfect.
Japan have barely had the ball for the opening 15 minutes, but never mind.

So if it wasn’t obvious before it should be now – don’t give away stupid penalties in our own half!!

No arms tackle on Gilchrist after another Scottish attack. It's kickable. Checking with TMO!

Nice bit of 'control' from Laidlaw at the base there
i.e. standing there doing nothing but letting the defensive line reorganise

That try just shows how high level the coaching of this Japanese side is. The variation they have in their lineout and their driving play is superb.

Strangely it's a no arms tackle on the ankles. But that's still illegal. No card given.

Tbh apart from the try I think Scotland have looked clearly better than their opponents and will be happy that if they keep this up they should win the game. But Japan continuing the trend from the weekend of being absolutely clinical when they get into the opposition 22.

You can't even criticise Scotland's defence for that try. That was as well a worked maul from a lineout that you'll see in rugby.

Yeah, what was the point in that?
But he just kicked his 3rd penalty which Weir nor Russell nor Pyrgos would do so, whatever.

Yeah that was some great play, even in club rugby where they can train together all year we almost never see that.

That was a great try by Japan. Scotland getting cut down in the tackle early. Shaun lamont being well tracked.

Re: Scotland v Japan, 23 September
Leitch knock on - second time he's dropped a high ball. Japan making mistakes.
I'm annoyed at Lacey for something there - clearly no attempt to move away from ruck from tackler, nothing given. Gilchrist had the same thing pinged for and that led to Japan try.
Penalty Scotland from the scrum. It's kickable ...

Re: Scotland v Japan, 23 September
Japan giving away a lot of penalties and paying the price on the scoreboard. But Lacey may have to produce cards if they keep up the infringing.
Scotland better break out the attacking plays though - they need to get five points from this ideally.

And there comes the card.
It's all going to go downhill for Japan methinks.
Scotland miss the kick though. 12-7 after 24 mins.

Re: Scotland v Japan, 23 September
Yellow for Japan- Scotland should put the hammer down here and go for the corner. If they can pull away in this period suddenly Japan will be struggling for purchase in this game.

Re: Scotland v Japan, 23 September
Hogg knocks on from the kick off , Japan penalty from the scrum. Scots look very unhappy with that one in particular.
I agree, kick for corner should have been the option from that penalty.
Scotland 12 - 7 Japan
Japan go for the corner instead of posts!!

Re: Scotland v Japan, 23 September
So Scotland react to the yellow by opting to take the points and not apply more pressure, missing the kick, knocking on an easy take and giving away a cheap penalty. Not exactly ruthless.
