Matthysse V Postol - SPOILERS
First topic message reminder :
Haven't seen this mentioned so far but Matthysse was stopped in the 10th after looking a bit bemused by Postol's jab and movement up to that point but also being in the fight.
It also looked like he could have gone on.
Postol V Crawford next hopefully.
What's next for Lucas Matthysse?

GGG's got a lot more to his game than Lucas. Mistaken to think they're the same type.

60-54 but hardly landed anything clean. I am not stating the fact McCloskey looked good, but Khan looked far from class, like MANY of his previous fights.
He blows too hot and cold for me.
Truss you pride yourself from being knowledgable, but I can tell you now. Khan is no top class fighter. He will be found out again soon.

GGG is a pressure fighter in the mould of Azumah Nelson............Makes you work constantly just by his presence......

Never said he was. Has been flattened though (more than once). He didin't box superbly in his last fight either.
He will get flattened soon, mark my words.

Matthyse had the same fan base as GGG and Kovalev. Certainly on here he did, but I think he's been exposed a bit. Kovalev has proved himself top dog in his division. He's currently the best KO specialist. Be good to see how he did against Ward though

Re: Matthysse V Postol - SPOILERS
Hearns fought much better competition. Can't imagine Garcia or Prescott nailing Hearns.
Daft comparison Truss!
His record is good. Not great.
I don't class him as a great or even close. A decent title holder is what he is in my opinion. He is a big name, so why could g not get his rematches?
The truth is he was another left hook away from his career ending. We can go around in circles about this all day. I'm telling you now with full confidence. He will get stopped soon.

Hard to imagine Duran getting flattened by bums though.

Lance wrote:Garcia got to where he did the hard way. I was one of the few who expected him to beat Matthyse, but I didn't think he would beat Khan. Two great wins. No doubt he is cashing in his name and titles a bit since. Unfortunately most do.
But gotta agree with Truss. Brook one decent win...cashing in easy home defences since. Quigg no great wins but being kept busy cashing in his pretend title. Anyone who thinks Garcia is like these two is mistaken.
Brook and Quigg are pretty widely derided on these boards.
Not a Garcia fan but even I would have him comfortably ahead of either.

Will Ward ever properly move up though? He's done a catchweight but shown little ambition post-absence.

Yep, because there was an undisputed world title on the line.
Prescott was dismissable as a blip.

Fair enough, you would still like to beat the guy that made a fool out of you though. For pride and all that.

Pride doesn't pay the bills though, and there's no money in a Prescott rematch. A rematch with Garcia could be a different matter though, but do either want it?

Re: Matthysse V Postol - SPOILERS
Garcia would jump at the Khan rematch, hes already said that.
That could be Malignaggi, Guerrero, followed by Khan. When it could have been Postol, Matthysse rematch and Thurman/Porter..
How does he get away with it. People still defending his fight selection.

It's not a case of defending his fight selection.......Some of us aren't singling him out when everybody is doing it......Unlike everybody though he has fought top fighters..

Fair enough I hadn't been aware of that, but really you'd have thought Khan would be the the one looking for the rematch.
I thought it was just Truss defending his choices, defo better options imo. Guerrero, small fighter with big heart, do you think a Garcia win is a foregone conclusion here? If he's the fighter some are making him out to be then yes it should, but is he? Khan & Matthyse, which are good wins, he's not been that impressive.

Of course Garcia would love another Khan fight.Same thing would happen again.
If Algieri can hit Amir, then Garcia will again. I'd predict a knockout in the first 3 or 4.

Re: Matthysse V Postol - SPOILERS
Guerrero has a lot of heart and is no pushover for anyone, but it's cynical to go after him when the media were asking him to face Thurman or Porter. Going after someone after a heavy loss is typical of the Garcia fight selection policy imo. Just making easy money while bypassing the real challenges.
There was a YouTube video a few months ago I saw- Garcia was asked about both a Matthysse and Khan rematch. He said a Khan rematch would be huge and was very enthusiastic but completely blanked the Matthysse question as if he hadn't heard the question.

It looks to me like Garcia ruined matthysse as a fighter. He did such a number on his eye that he seems to have become phobic of damaging it further. A rematch makes zero sense now.

He's been in two foty's since Garcia- Molina and Provodnikov.
But you do have a point. It's put some doubt in his mind.
Every point in a rematch though- Matthysse wins it.

All good in hindsight like.
He never got outboxed by Garcia. He was actually quite comfortable until the eye injury. If anything he got outboxed by Judah.

Re: Matthysse V Postol - SPOILERS
Feel for Lucas, looks like he has blew his final chance, one of my favourite fighters of the last 5 years
Something definitely happened to his eye as he was very in the fight and doesn't ever cop out, so feel for him but his style takes a lot of shots so injuries are going to happen.
Should've got the decision against Alexander, made a mistake not pushing judah harder as he could've won that and up untill the eye blowing up he looked on top of garcia. One thing you can say though is neither injury was caused by a clash of heads but but a punch.
Hope he can get a good win or two, still a fan friendly fighter but has looked vulnerable and not the monster who was knocking everyone out a couple years ago.

Re: Matthysse V Postol - SPOILERS
I just managed to watch the whole fight today and I was very impressed with Postol's tactics, he neutralised Matthysse for the most part and showed great defence and judgement of range.
I wanted Lucas to win and picked him to win, but Postol being able to judge the distance and being outside of the wild swings by talking a short step back really helped him, it reminded me of how Klitchsko dealt with Haye, the difference being that Postol wasn't bear hugging Lucas when he got inside and Lucas was allowed to work.
I didn't see too much issue with the clinching as had been reported, excellent performance from Postol, I'm just not sure he has the style or entertainment value to command the big fights.
I really enjoyed the performance and I'm gutted for Lucas, from the sounds of it he got blinded when he went down from the right hand and rightly got the fight stopped, no point risking your sight, live to fight another day and I will definitely be watching him if he decides to do it.
I guess the problem for Lucas is he can't take a step down in level, because his power usually makes mince meat out of the competition, its only the upper echelons of the division that can take him a few rounds.
If he does decide to retire then good luck to him, given us great value over the years.
