The messiah has been nominated for World Rugby breakthrough player of the year - incredible to think he only made his debut a year ago!

Congrats to the Messiah. He played really well at this tournament and hopefully with either the return of Alex Dunbar or the return to form of Matt Scott he'll have the opportunity to play even better at the forthcoming 6 Nations. At the very least this should really bolster his confidence.

Delighted for him and I started a thread about this, so please go on to comment and give this young man his due:
https://www.606v2.com/t61040-world-rugby-breakthrough-player-of-the-year
Even if he IS forever tainted in the eyes of many with being an Ayr player.

7. On Welsh centres:
Sonia McLaughlin: "I'm sure we'd all like to know... Why are you called the 'Twenty Minuters'?"
John Inverdale: "Oh, Mr Thicko, fancy not knowing that!"
Rob Howley: "It's simple! The life expectancy of a Welsh centre is twenty minutes!"
8. On Michael Leitch:
"Well, Captain, I've got to admire your balls."
"Perhaps later."
9. Wayne Barnes speaking to the TMO:
"You'd like to book a table for three, by the window, for 9:30 p.m., not too near the band, in the name of "Oberleutnant von Genschler". Yes? Yes? I think you might have the wrong number."
10. My reflections on ITV's coverage:
"The day the [tournament] began I was cheesed off. Within ten minutes of [Paloma Faith] turning up, I had finished the cheese and moved on to the coffee and cigars, and at this late stage I am in a cab with two lady companions on my way to the Pink Pussycat in Lower Regent Street."

I bloody wouldn't. Just think how embarrassing it would be for a side that were 2 minutes from a semi final to lose their opening game to a pool minnow.

A senior moment there! Although any result against England that doesn't result in the reclaiming of those melted rupees is a loss in my book...

Re: Scotland 6N lookahead
Who wants to be 22 anyway?
All that free time, parties, bars, cool trips with friends, being single around single women (or taken women - who cares), the genuine expectation that you might end up in a cool job, feeling smug about having a degree but without the realisation that you actually know nothing.......nah, being 34 is much cooler.
You can delete all that stuff above and replace it with eating (quickly), working (harder and in a job that is in no way cool), looking after a toddler night and day, occasionally speaking to your wife (invariably about the aforementioned toddler) and even less frequently sleeping.

Ah, 22. The age when you washed yer knob before you went out on a Friday night because there was a (slim) chance that it might be "on manoeuvres" later that night.
And add "wishing you were still 22" to fES's list.

25 is rubbish. The much awaited fall in car insurance costs never comes, people start to question whether you have the capacity to actually succeed in life, and you spend most of your time with family explaining that no, you are not getting married yet.
Mind you, at 22 I was the office newbie at work, looking up to the people in the position I'm in now, thinking they were oh so mature and knew what they were doing... How mistaken was I?!

Re: Scotland 6N lookahead
Anyone seen this new page on FB that's just popped up, "Mediocre Rugby Union Players of the 90's and 2000's". Started by some Aussie's and features the likes of Sam Norton Night (fair enough) & Matt Dunnings etc. But they've crossed a line with this post https://www.facebook.com/MediocreRugbyUnion/photos/a.162297794119951.1073741828.162287634120967/162390774110653/?type=3&permPage=1
How dare they sully the name of the sharpest set of sideburns to ever wear the thistle.

Re: Scotland 6N lookahead
Harsh on Parks.
He was normally superb at touch-finding, something we could do with today, and also wasn't afraid of dropping a goal (pet hate of mine that we don't opt for that atm, when was the last time and Edinburgh/Glasgow team/Scotland team did?). He didn't really offer a running threat but was invaluable in some of the big games a few years ago now.
He might be average to Aussie standards, but to our standards I think he was pretty decent.

Nem, Rory Clegg dropped a goal against Munster a couple of weeks ago but, as you say, it was so shocking that I had to have a lie down.
In any case, he's now off to Oyonnax so your point still stands now more than ever!

Agreed, particularly Edinburgh as we don't currently play with a recognised goal kicker.
Dan Carter showed in the SA semi-final how useful it can be to get the scoreboard moving quickly.
I suppose the problem comes back to restarts. Because an Edinburgh/Scotland restart is effectively 3/5/7 points to the opposition, can we afford to only score 3 pointers??

Ha ha, AMAZING!!
I bet when he collects the award, as he surely must, he turns to the master of ceremonies, waves his arms about while pointing at the award, then box kicks it into the corner of the hall.
Still, well done wee Greeg!

Re: Scotland 6N lookahead
Dan Carter - actually not done that much this world cup - and looks a bit rusty
David Pocock - Knees up for Pocock - well knees chest
Michael Hooper - head and shoulder above into Brown
Julian Savea - anyone would look good behind NZ - what has he really done run through
Alun Wyn Jones - too many names to fit on the trophy
Greig Laidlaw - Only real choice
PS - this is just for fun
I would go for Hooper

Screw the world cup post mortem - the most important news is I swept aside all who tried to challenge me in Risky's fantasy league!
50 points ahead of FES in 2nd place and ranked 257 out of 118,000 entrants in the whole competition.
We all agreed to chip in a fiver to the winner yeah??

If we have four centres in the squad;
Alex Dunbar.... if he's fit again he's our best 12 by a mile
.... he's probably the NH's best 13 by a mile
Hornee Furra Linee.... probably our most creative 12 by a mile
Richie V... improving all the time but sadly suffers by comparison with
Duncan Taylor may be considered if Dunbar or Hornee are not available.
Schlong may be in as wing/ centre/FB cover.
I've not missed anyone have I?
