Fury SPOTY? Empty Fury SPOTY?

Got to be a shoe in for SPOTY surely. Will be brilliant seeing him there sitting between all the good nicey nicey middle-class sports people with his slazenger socks on show. Bet his speech would be entertaining too.

I'd doubt it. There were some very dubious Tweets from mainstream sports journos Saturday night. They were fixated on his homophobic rants rather than what he'd achieved.

Still mad when you think about it:

Mike Tyson
Buster Douglas
Evander Holyfield
Riddick Bowe
Evander Holyfield
Michael Moorer
George Foreman
Shannon Briggs
Lennox Lewis
Hasim Rahman
Lennox Lewis
Vitali Klitschko
Wladimir Klitschko
Tyson Fury

Fury 6/1
Jeesica Ennis - evens.

Probably not going to happen for the reason you mentioned. Shame though as in terms or sporting achievment, and personality, Fury must be one of the most deserving ever.

Britain's first bonafide no-arguments heavyweight champion since the start of "Boxing" should really get it..

I think he should get it. Why not.

No matter what we think of Wlad, he was Champion that dominated his division for over a decade and Fury beat him in his backyard.

Should be Fury, written off by everyone and their dog, slagged off to the hills and has constantly been told he isn't good enough (since the Price fight was first mooted) only to upset the Applecart (and the whole orchid) and bring the undisputed HW crown to the UK. First to do so in a long time and as such should get it, alas it will go to Murray/Ennis or Hamilton.

Don't think he will get it though - not enough people saw the fight, and he previously had a relatively low profile. I do think TF now deserves a nomination and even that he should be taken seriously as a contender, but he's behind quite a few in the public consciousness:
Jess Ennis-Hill
Mo Farrah
Lewis Hamilton
Andy Murray
Chris Froome

The comments regarding homosexuality will likely stop him getting a nomination. To much room for people to get up in arms over it.

he's got no chance of winning. it's a popularity contest at the end of the day, his comments only make his chances slimmer, than slim.

In terms of sporting achievement in their own sports Lizzy Yarnold (skeleton) and Lizzie Armitstead (road cycling) put Jessica Ennis achievement in athletics well in the shade.  But as women's skeleton and women's road cycling just doesn't get the same publicity in Britain than media darling Jessica, hardly anybody hears of or gets to appreciate their achievement.

In terms of sporting achievement and personality Tyson Fury certainly ranks higher than Jessica Ennis, but he is just not taken particularly seriously by most.  Him coming from the "travelling community" also probably doesn't help him.

Posh sports always get the nod in SPOTY over working class sports/ sports with tribal followings. It's a fairly meaningless award anyway.

Having said that, Fury wouldn't get a look in from me. Viva Gareth Bale!

No one deserves it more, to come and take that from Wlad in Germany against all the odds, is a massive achievement, no one else has done anything close.
