Team Of The Season So Far Empty Team Of The Season So Far

Post by Trebs Wed 16 Dec 2015, 1:47 pm

As Christmas is coming and we approach the mid-point of the season, what is the team of the season?

We will be discussing it on the podcast tomorrow, and to get your views on board would be great. The best comments will also be read out.

Please stick to a 4-3-3 formation and let's hear your views.

Cheers,

Jack Butland

Hector Bellerin
Scott Dann or Ryan Shawcross
Chris Smalling
Nacho Monreal or Danny Rose (think both are ****, but the PL has no good left backs)

Riyad Mahrez
Mesut Ozil
Georginio Wijnaldum or Dimitri Payet

Jamie Vardy
Romelu Lukaku

Not saying this is or isn't the best team so far but the Premier League fantasy football dream team so far is

Butland

Smalling  Alderweireld  Dann

Mahrez  Ozil  Barkley  Wijnaldum

Vardy  Lukaku  Ighalo

That formation is probably more fitting, than the 4-3-3, the OP was asking for. Most of us are fitting in Danny Rose, just for the sake of the formation, whereas MIG's formation is probably the preferred option, in showing the team of the half-season.

No real complaints, possibly Barkley could be replaced, Payet has produced more for WHU & then you have the under the radar types, like Drinkwater & Kante, who have worked miracles behind the scenes for Leicester.

Distinct lack of Wesley Hoolahan in this thread....

Capoue should be getting some love too - he's been brilliant for Watford

Team of the season for now I'd say is:

Butland

Bellerin - Alderweireld - Huth - Monreal

Drinkwater - Kante

Mahrez - Ozil - Payet

Vardy

Can't argue with that really, apart from Monreal. I think the 4 at the back, means you have to place a LB there, when in reality, he hasn't blown anyone away & has only provided a couple of assists. Christian Fuchs has three assists & is top of the league, so that already puts a doubt on Monreal's placing in that side.

I'm most definitely not rubbishing Butland - he seems to be a young guy on the up - but he wouldn't be my first choice keeper in this team.

I'd actually plump for Cech. I thought in the last few seasons that Cech had been struggling to reach his own previous heights - his form seemed to suffer after the collision with Hunt. However, he appears back (or very nearly back) to his best this term. Seems to have been totally reliable for Arsenal and has played a significant role in them being genuine Premier League title contenders.

I recall Mourinho saying that Cech's greatest strength was his concentration. That was very evident in the weekend game against Bournemouth. Not that often in the action but a handful of good saves when he was together with clean handling and fine distribution.

Well, Cech didn't do much for my credibility last night nor his own! I guess everyone is entitled to the odd bad game but yesterday wasn't the best time to choose.

Id be looking at a (1)4-2-3-1

Cech or Butland

Bellerin or Walker (can't believe I'm saying that)
Alderweireld, Huth with possible of Vertonghen, Smalling, Shawcross, Dawson, Van Dijk and Collins.
Cresswell, Monreal or Fuchs

Kante, Dier, Fernandinho, Noble or Alli

Ozil, Payet and Mahrez without question. Special mention Willian.

Lukaku, Vardy, Aguero (kind of has to be mentioned) or Kane.

Can't agree with Morgan being in there instead of Smalling.

I can and do. The only problem is I think Huth is better than Morgan.

Rose is a joke, and really Ozil has been better than Alli.

Yeah think if Morgan wasn't captain of Leicester Huth gets in there, he has been better I feel. Leicester's defence improved last year upon his introduction.

People always get a bit wound up about this but the selection process is very flawed and really it is just of mild interest.

I'd say it's;

De Gea
Bellerin - Alderweireld - Huth - Cresswell
Mahrez - Kante - Alli - Payet
Kane - Vardy

Alternatively;

Milner
Milner - Milner - Milner - Milner
Milner - Milner - Milner - Milner
Milner - Milner

Get Ozil out for De Bruyne if you're playing an AM there.

I'd take both De Bruyne and Payet over Ozil, he is the epitome of an Arsenal player, brilliant when everything is going to plan but goes missing the moment things get tough, he's been pretty poor since Christmas really.
