Those 6N's Rivalries - Page 9 Empty Those 6N's Rivalries

Post by yappysnap Sun 03 Jan 2016, 8:54 am

First topic message reminder :

Just curious to see peoples thoughts on this. A lot is made of the whole England v Wales thing, but is that competitive spirit/dislike actually still as strong as it used to be?

For me I'd say the competitive side is as strong as ever. I have nothing against the Welsh, but they are definitely the fans that give out the most banter (digs) and they're the team that's probably caused England the most pain recently. They're also some of the best fans to chat rugby with in person, and from the times when I've randomly ended up watching games alongside them, can take criticism, a loss and a bit of mocking very well (as well as give it out). But they are definitely the team I dread losing to!

On the pitch I feel there are a few scores to settle as well namely that drubbing in Cardiff, and then the RWC loss (shudders). I hope who ever plays for England remembers those two defeats and uses that pain to make them come out with passion and play right on the edge. The 6n's is all about these historic games, where there is so much back story to every meeting, and this years England v Wales should be particularly spicy.

What other big rivalries are there in the 6N's now?

Feel free to let this become the wumming thread too...

Hmm, there does seem to be a trend with some English posters crying 'wum' and 'anti English' if Non English posters offer a different opinion mind.

I try not to WUM at all. I try to post reasonable comments and opinions. Some based on fact some based on opinions.

WUMing rarely develops into anything other than negativity. I like to discuss the rugby, learn what other fans think and try and get a different perspective on the game as opposed to viewing the game through Navy Blue glasses.

The Wales vs England bickering has actually reached parody levels on several threads, and both sides can be as bad as each other.

OK so can we all now agree that winning the 6N is not meaningless, no matter what happens afterwards ?

You'd have to ask Pooly as he's basically saying it doesn't mean much in respect of world dominance, I think. All I want is to win every game England play.

I love the 6N, LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT.

There is no way on earth I would not want to win it, never, no matter what it meant in the wider world.

If you can't do the former the latter seems rather unlikely

The AI's are 6 month further down the line and all at home. Losing away to Ireland or Wales is a possibility, especially early in Jones tenure.

I dont think losing away is a 'possibility', i think its probable. You have a short memory.

It's just as well England play Wales and Ireland at Twickenham then.

Paddies on here seem a lot more relaxed about their place in the rugby universe. 6n champs..currently and a few times recent past.
Strong regional clubs.
Had a quiet RWC, but then Scotland apart, who in Europe did not ?
I hardly witness any Irish English wumming on 606 if that indicates anything about Irish confidence.

Scotland did well compared to the rest. Aus did for them finally...just...having destroyed England and seen off Wales.
Scotland did better against the finalists Aus than anyone else, a bounce away from beating them.

Scotland were destroyed themselves, by SA, and managed to limp past Samoa. They weren't better than anyone else, and perhaps performance wise a bit worse - this is why I don't get why people say they did really well. They did much better than previously, so perhaps they're one of the most improved teams.
