31-21..... this one is unexpectedly warming up a little.
Carolina could really use a drive here just to run some time off the clock if nothing else.

I would scrap OT in the regular and have a set period of play in the playoffs like an extra quarter or even play five minutes. If still a tie play another five minutes and do.on. A 2 pt conversion shoot-out would be interesting. A penalty shoot-out would be fun. Who doesn't want to see Aaron Rodgers and Carson Palmer kicking field goals?Number-25 wrote:Team loses a playoff game in OT.... said team then whines about the OT rules are unfair (looking at you Green Bay).... one of the most predictable things in the NFL.

Ah man the Peyton noodle is just amazing to watch - he literally put everything into that 12 yards throw to Thomas and it wobbled all the way

Considering the shape these two QBs are in, they may as just call it a day if either team opens up a two score lead.

Give me Carolina who destroyed Seattle before they sat on a lead over Arizona who squeaked past a mediocre Green bay team.

PS, from what I saw this weekend, none of these teams are SB material. That said, I can see the Seahawks upsetting the applecart. Seem to have been riding their luck all the way form week 7.
3 out of 4 so far and close on the Seahawks game. Can see the Broncos squeaking this one, but the Steelers are playing better despite being banged up. Manning looks done - I'm nigh on 50 and I can still put a spiral on every throw, just can't throw it over 30y. Then again, neither can Manning seemingly...
Regardless of this result, I'm going with Panthers v Patriots in the SB, and the Panthers edging it as the better all round team.

Providing Collins/Hightower are fit (nothing out about knocks picked up yesterday) I'm confident ahead of next week, especially if Manning is playing.
We put up 24 on Denver earlier in the season without Edelman/Amendola and without White in the game plan either. I think we can match that again, and judging by the way Peyton played today I doubt they match that. If Brock plays I'm a lot more worried

I think the Giants are probably willing to see how Spags performs with a healthier and hopefully more talented D roster. 6 of the 11 in that (already relatively short on talent) roster were injured for all or part of the year and JPP obviously came back and was limited in what he could do with an oven mitt. That coupled with the serious poor quality in the LB spots has made it reasonably difficult to judge Spags. We could say he hasn't done a great job, but it's hard to quantify how poor a job he's done taking all things into consideration.
Getting that D up a few spots to maybe 27-30 in the NFL may well have been a good achievement for him, but it would have made little impact on the Giants season in the end. Get some LBs and a strong safety in during the off season (and see how JPP gets on after his latest surgery) and we should be in a better position to judge.

Re: Ongoing NFL Discussion Thread V
Talking about actual things.... NFL.com also has an article ranking the recent Head Coaching hires.... before any of said new Head Coaches have even had the chance to be the Head Coaches of their new teams.
As if that's not ludicrous enough, the same article has this little beauty of a sentence in it... "If anyone can get Colin Kaepernick back on track, it's Chip Kelly"..... I mean just how does anyone look at his work with the QBs in Philadelphia and come to that conclusion???
Absolute trash!

Kaepernick isnt a fit though. Have to be acccurate.

I mean Nick Foles couldn't make 1 season before being benched for Case Keenum. Mark Sanchez went from buttfumble punchline to semi respectable last year. Bradford played pretty well by the end of the year. He hasn't had elite production, but he's got more out of bad talents than most would.

I agree with this - lots of short/intermediate throws, which Kaepernick either misses by 10 yards or throws a knuckle ball on. I've said all along I think Kelly's a good coach, and was killed by himself with his bonkers personnel decisions. If Baalke can actually draft well (somewhere out there niner just exploded) I can see him doing well in San Fran

Re: Ongoing NFL Discussion Thread V
Thing about Foles' good spell in Philly is that it happened when Chip's offense was still something that the league had never seen before. That had more to do with Foles' production than Chip being some kind of QB guru. Kapaernick won't have the same luxury as Foles did in playing in such a novel offense.
I don't think Sanchez ever became semi-decent did he? He was still ultimately rubbish. Says a lot when Rex Ryan got more out of him early in his Jets career when they were getting to AFC Championship games than Kelly did.
I don't think Bradford showed much more this season than he did in St Louis when he was fit.
I do think Kelly is a good coach though who could do well in San Fran.

If I was GM at the 49ers, I would let Kapernick go. He hasn't played well for 18 months not just this season. Gabbert still has another year on his contract and seemed to perform and progress well enough to get another chance next season. He was certainly better than Kapernick in preseason and probably should have started the season.
I would then look at possibly drafting Jared Goff or maybe Paxton Lynch in the draft.

Yeah, it's nonsense... regardless of how good you think Brady is, surely you back your very good defense to force a stop rather than taking your chances with the lottery of an onside kick where the odds are stacked in favour of the receiving team??

So the HC and OC are former QBs, the QB coach is a pretty hot name in DiFilippo, not looking great for a Bradford return.

Their head coach hasn't had a winning record since 2005. Their new OC hasn't held that position since 2004 (and the last time before that was with the Los Angeles Raiders). Their DC is 78 years old. What is the plan there supposed to be? It's like they're actively trying to kill off any excitement about Mariota.Olly wrote:Being a Tennessee fan has gotta be most depressing in the league - no team does more to hurt itself

Thing is they do have some half decent talent you could build around - great tight end in Walker, a young promising WR corps, the front seven on defence plays well with the likes of Casey and Orakpo.
It's just like they're committed to going 3-13 for eternity. They've completely wasted year 1 of Mariota, now they're going about wasting year 2 with freaking Mike Mularkey, who's only notable thing he did as coach was eff up in week 17 against Pittsburgh's backups as bills coach when all they needed to do was win to get in the playoffs
I admire anybody who goes to every single one of their home games.

Was too busy today to get online to buy tickets for the Redskins/Bengals Wembley game in October. Just spent the last hour on Ticketmaster website.... basically none left! Couldn't get two seats together to start with and now can't even seem to get a seat on its own.
