Who else has a record that shows they were unbeaten for nearly 90 fights?TopHat24/7 wrote:Unbeaten - yes.

No idea, how long did Wilde or Greb go without a loss?
Point is regarding opposition.
Didn't Loma get close to 300 before losing? Amateur but as good if not better standard to a lot of JCC's assorted taxi drivers & janitors.

I doubt it comes close to the 35 world title fights that Chavez had against the best of the era, lot of filler no doubt but also a lot of top top quality on there.

Wow, hadn't realised it was that many title fights before he lost!
Fair bit of quality likely then, but a hell of a lot of filler to get to 90/35.

One of my favorite fighters...His performance against Rosario being a stand out for me....
Lost his unbeaten record to Pernell though in all fairness.........
I don't regard his overall record as incredible to be honest as 3/5 of the fighters on it are non entities..
But his championship record is top draw and a bonafide alltime great in any era..
Randall certainly had the key and never rated him that highly apparently...
The Captain spoke to Randall who wasn't that high in praise and thought Rosario was a better fighter......shame he's not around to divulge the conversation..
Pity his Son didn't inherit his Dad's drive and work ethic.

Think it was closer 30 by the time of the Randall fight but his record has more quality on it than most.

Remember this fight haz
the shock of seeing Chavez dropped really shocked me.
Also I remember Chavez being a very sore looser after the fight giving Randell, who fought a great fight, no credit at all.

Chavez was 90-0-1 before the loss, which was a great record.
Some like to complain that there were some average fighters on his record but as a fan, I didn't care. He fought often so he was entitled to the odd gimme opponent. By the way, Randall was considered a gimme opponent also, no one expected him to win and look what happened.

That knockdown was a genuine OMFG moment. Seem to recall Randall pivoting away from Chavez when the Mexican crowded him (and fighting like hell throughout).
Randall really earned that title shot - crazy record heading in.

And yet we're constantly hammered with Floyd's 49-0....even from boxing scribes who think it's unique!Atila wrote:Chavez was 90-0-1 before the loss, which was a great record.
