I don't think this is accurate. They kill them and then take the bee grubs back to their own young. I don't think they eat the bees.

The bees tempt the hornets in to the nest. They goad a hornet scout to enter the hive and then then thousands of bees pounce on it and beat their wings to raise the temperature around the hornet. It raises it just enough to kill the hornet without killing any of the bees. It is a fantastic spectacle.

Problem is, the hornet scout has already left a scent for his buddies. The bees go to the part of the hive that the hornet has scented and try to eat the scent away. They can never do it quickly enough though and the hornets arrive en masse and decimate the bees before stealing their young to feed their own.

Nature is brutal and beautiful.

I have seen it, it is awesome. It's almost as good as watching these spiders use lives wires and nectar to trap and kill hornets. Then they move about 40 yards down the line, each rubbing nectar onto their abdomens to lay the next trap. They kill about 40 hornets a day doing this.

The reaction was funnier last time though. Ah well. I'll find you something you'll enjoy in a few days hopefully. Going through my old stuff to make room for the baby. i might find some excellent old school documentaries that need copying/disposing of.

Sometime in may, but I need to get rid of the current storage so I can fit in a bigger one so everything is set before the big day. I've been in such a good mood I unwisely bought her a Super king sized bed she really wanted so I don't even have to kick her to the floor after i'm spent. The things we do for those we bum eh?

We're expecting another daughter in June. Having to destroy half the house and build new rooms and all sorts because my wife doesn't quite like the size or location of the new baby's room.

Good afternoon.

Saved another pigeon with a spike on its head on the weekend. It was so confused and exhausted it let me pick it up.

It had very delicate rib bones... so light and fragile... much like I would imagine a miniature replica of a young Kate Moss' rib cage would have.
Way too skinny for my liking. I really wanted to fatten it up with some heavy duty bird seed but instead I just let it back out into the suburban wilderness to fend for itself.

The new study here was also designed as a baby room if need be. The electrician is going berserk with the possibilities of customising switches and devices between certain rooms. He has some great ideas and I'm just trying to keep the lid on him but its hard to shut up a mad Professor of Electricity.
