How many Clubs needed?
my set goes down to 4 iron, and I have a very old 22deg rescue which is rarely used, and a not as old rescue at 19deg, i then have a 3 wood - 15 deg and my driver.
My 4 iron is 24deg according to a google search. And I am thinking about replacing one or both of my rescues, I hit the 19 pretty regularly. Is it worth replacing both or just getting maybe another 19 or 20 deg rescue.
How many clubs does everyone have and use in their bag?
Cheers!

Re: How many Clubs needed?
I have many clubs kicking about cupboards but usually only have putter, SW, PW, 9-4, 22° hybrid, 19° hybrid and driver in the bag. (12 clubs). To make it up to 14 I add my 3 wood 60° wedge.
If you can afford it why not replace both hybrids with the same model?

Driver, 3 wood, 19, 23 & 26 deg hybrids, 6-9, PW, 52, 56 & 60 deg wedges & putter. I think my PW is 45 deg so might change my 52 for a 50 to even up the gaps.

seems like a big gap between 52 and 58? i guess you are pretty comfortable hitting less than full shots with the 52.
i carry 9 degree driver. 15 deg 3 wood. 20d deg utility. 4-PW and then 52 54 58.

Driver (9.5) 3 wood (15) 20 deg hybrid 4-gw 54 58 & putter - 14 clubs.
Don't usually need them all in any one round but will use all of them at some point every 2 rounds.

Re: How many Clubs needed?
FWIW, I have 19°, 21° and 24° hybrids. I was reluctant to ditch the corresponding irons but it's a no-brainer really. I'd say if you have the cash, ditch both existing hybrids and the 4-iron and then replace with two newer hybrids. I might be tempted (unless you want 3 new clubs) to replace the 19° with a 21°.
I have the full monty in the bag i.e. driver, 3w, 19°, 21° and 24° hybrids, 5-PW, 52°, 56° and putter.

Are you guys really carrying 14 clubs all the time? I would only carry the full 14 on the rare occasions I hire a buggy if playing 36 holes on an outing. The rest of the time I carry as few clubs as possible.

52 is pretty much exclusively for chipping. I've developed my short game around it for consistency and it works spectacularly. 58 for bunkers and flop shots only.

Re: How many Clubs needed?
Most of the time. Occasionally, I take a half-set as it's great for learning improvised shots etc. We should probably all practise more with half-sets or less. I've been trying to promote 3-club comps at our place for the Winter (faster as well in the reduced daylight hours), for example, but the response has generally been "Meh!".McLaren wrote:Are you guys really carrying 14 clubs all the time? Always carry 14 clubs, why wouldn't I?

Re: How many Clubs needed?
This all pretty interesting. As I am not flushed with cash at the moment, I may replace one of my hybrids, maybe a new 20/21 which could come in handy.

Re: How many Clubs needed?
We have a five club comp every year (one must be a putter). Won it once and didn't use one of my five once! The wind was so strong, I couldn't use the 8 iron where I expected and had to use the 6 instead.navyblueshorts wrote:Most of the time. Re: How many Clubs needed?
Kent must have better weather than round these parts if a 2 club wind counts as "so strong". Up on the peaks of the braids that is a zephyr.

Re: How many Clubs needed?
As I'm so much older than I'm supposed to be (obtuse interpretation of comments on another thread ) I take 14 clubs with me thanks to my electric trolley.
Quick practices in the summer I will grab a few clubs and chuck em in a carry bag but if playing a full lap I'll have a full set.

Re: How many Clubs needed?
Always a full set, always carry. By carrying I can often take shorter routes to tee boxes etc., and I've both hands free to mark a score card or clean a club as I walk so it keeps things moving nicely.

Re: How many Clubs needed?
I have about 18 clubs from which I select 13 or 14 for the round.
Generally it is driver, 5 wood, 4-PW, 3 other wedges and a putter. Depending on the course I might add a 3 wood, or a rescue club, or a 2 or 3 iron. I carry most of the time because I am inherently lazy and just take the straightest line between where I am and where I need to be, like Bob. Sometimes in the summer I have a trolley, but I find there's a lot of faffing about and it is slower. I can make the trolley go 20, 40 or 60 yards on its own which helps (and I have managed to avoid the ponds and ditches so far) but I am usually happier carrying my clubs.
