Big Upset in Sao Paulo
Just saw Brazil have clinched their first ever win in the Americas Rugby Championship against the USA- winning 24-23 with a late penalty.

It seems like their inclusion in this new tournament is already benefiting them.

What a great result, I hope this galvanises them into action. Obviously football is undisputed king there, but with a population of over 200 million there should be more than enough players to make them a force in rugby.
Wouldn't mind a rugby tour/RWC in Brazil! Imagine taking in its various sights
Almost as appealing as Scotstoun on a wet Friday night.

Fair play to them! Wonder what level of USA team was this though? I only ask because AJ MacGinty was playing for Connacht this weekend, and the Cardiff Blues USA international is playing right now. Might be all there european players are unavailable.. still great result for the samba boys!

I don't recall the names of most of the American team. Must have been all local club guys.

London has approx 100 homicides per year and the U.K. 500-600 per year. Brazil had approx 60,000 last year. The poverty and crime issues in the favelas are beyond comprehension.
Rugby could play an important and growing part in diverting people away from the gang and crime culture so hopefully their national team can inspire a few to take up this superb game.

Not to mention drugs and the Zika virus.

Let me guess. More flesh on display in Scotstoun?

Oh....
Quite clearly Brazil are now ready for the next level of rugby with this win, and must now surely join the 6 nations.

This was a very weak US side.
However Brazil recently played Germany and by all accounts they have a pack very much in the Argentina mould...ie a huge physical one.
Exposure to this tournament is only going to help them.

Fantastic result

Hard to comprehend why the US would field a weak side when they were on the brink of becoming inaugural champions. Just how seriously is this competition being taken?

Nice idea, but about as realistic as a Donald Trump speech.

I can just imagine politicians funding a rugby drive as a cheap way to placate the middle classes demanding action, when in truth what they need is proper education and jobs. In successful economies sport is mainly leisure, jobs and education are the key drivers and that is what they need. I think there is going to be a lot of unrest in Brazil as they see immense opportunity to invest in education and jobs wasted on big sport events.
