Silly season transfer rumours III...
First topic message reminder :
Aaron Jarvis has signed for Clermont (http://www.planetrugby.com/news/ospreys-prop-jarvis-to-join-clermont/). The Osprey's signed Rhodri Jones as a replacement I guess.
Steve Shingler (of is he eligible for Scotland or not fame) has gone to the Blues. Straight swap of Shingler for Patchell. Hope Cardiff are paying less as Scarlets got the better player (http://www.planetrugby.com/news/shingler-swaps-scarlets-for-blues/)

Maybe he thought about Brookes, Youngs, Alex Gray etc and thought he'd be better of staying where he was and actually getting gametime instead of sitting on a bench.....

Best thing for these kids is to cement a place at their clubs. See if Int recognition comes and if not, move on if you think you can be first choice at a better club.

Agree. Try and gain a permanent spot at a basement club first before moving on to waste away at a bigger club before theyre ready

Re: Silly season transfer rumours III...
Walker is a good signing for Bath, he might not be ready immediately but with Van Vurren and Batty around there's some squad level experience to mean he doesn't get left struggling out of his depth and he can be eased in. He looks a bright prospect that should flourish if developed and let's face it he should see game time at Bath and push past the other contenders once up to speed.
Witty should be looking to stay at Falcons in the short term. Until there's an opening for a starter at a big club. Green and Robinson have both played well this season so there's some competition to spur him on as well as game time opportunity for him to develop in.

Out of curiosity, do Bath have a good academy team? It seems like they very often take players from other academies rather than their own...

Not the strongest to be honest. Devoto is the golden boy, with Charlie Ewels not far behind. Woodburn and Burns are two losses that have been much better since they left. Catt and mercer are in the match day squad most weeks, but haven't kicked on as we hoped and are just AP squad players.

Leinster have signed Jamison Gibson-Park, from the Hurricanes in Super Rugby. Probably a good move considering the age of their current SH's

Hastings looks handy enough - I reckon once he's got a bit more professional experience he'll be a pretty solid option at FH

Yeh they do but they have struggled lately I would imagine a season in the championship will do their younger players a load of good though.

Bath seem to be getting more from their academy recently than they have done. Mercer, Ewels, Devoto, Catt, Plama-Newport, Cook, Dunne and Woodburn all played in the AP this season. They aren't necessarily bringing through any big names but other AP clubs have been through average periods of development as well.

Guardian reporting (unconfirmed) that Beale has gone to Wasps for £1.5 million over 2 years.
Beale has been excellent this season but has had personal issues in the past and I am not a big fan of him for that price. For that sort of money why not look at Sonny Bill Williams or go get a couple more top forwards? Looks like that new stadium/casino in Coventry is really paying off.

Times hasthe same story, whilst saying Wasps still looking for a FB as they have earmarked Beale to play at 12. Apparently Wasps have spoken to 1/2p again, but he will supposedly be returning to Cardiff.

Re: Silly season transfer rumours III...
Beale will be a class player for Wasps in time. It's exactly the sort of player they need in the backs if they want to keep playing the way they are. I'm not sure if he's a good defender though, so Haskell might need to babysit that 10/12 channel.

Re: Silly season transfer rumours III...
That rumour has been doing the rounds for a while. Not sure Beale fits the mould of the 12 in their current game plan. He would be a like for like option for the kind of 15 Wasps tend to play with. I'd expect them to keep a boshing 12 and then use Beale at 15.

Beale's wages are 1/3 of our total playing budget

Your total playing budget is £2.2m? What aspects does that cover?

Which one? He's more like Charles than the unit that Wasps have deployed at 12. He's also more in line with Miller in that he's a creative player at the back as opposed to a running threat, though he's got some of that in his arsenal as well.

Didn't he leave to pursue a place on the Australian sevens team for the Olympics but missed out. After Mourad complained he was a poor replacement for Wilkinson I doubt he felt particularly pleased with life at Toulon.

Re: Silly season transfer rumours III...
Beale stretchered off in the 1st minute against the Bulls, which is obviously very bad news for him.
Two things with regards his proposed move to Wasps;
firstly the classic and obvious, what a complete waste of money that should instead be spent on developing English talent, and secondly,
regardless of what a fantastically gifted rugby player he is, we already have one show pony, Cipriani, back next season and from memory they were both at the Rebels together to no great, infact bad, effect.
Maybe we could get O'Connor as well and instead of washing it on the wall we could put all strait down the toilet. Apart from that its been a superb season:)

Pretty clear that was Beale's Patella Tendon. Now I read it might be a complete tear, so he will be out 6-12 months, and possibly longer. Seeing the replay of the injury, the knee locks for just that split second, then goes. The surgery must happen quickly or the recovery telescopes longer.kingelderfield wrote:Beale stretchered off in the 1st minute against the Bulls, which is obviously very bad news for him.

Regarding Beale as a player, I always thought him pretty decent, but never a game changer. I would never have signed him for big money. In fact, this is what i will always remember him for:

If that is true, it would suit their style. Another SA 15, Chesnan Kolbe, would be another decent target if they want a similar sort of player (who is cheaper).

They've just released Bradley Davies a year early from his contract so he can go and join the Ospreys. That'll free up some cap as will Smith and Piatau (x2) leaving. On top of that the cap has gone up and there's two marquee spots to fill. They've cut a few of the squad this summer who were getting on a bit as well, somewhat of an overhaul going on.

I doubt Bath will also release George. He's their starting ten and would be expensive to replace as well as likely to sign for an opposition team.

Got to wonder if a) was Mike Ford sacked? and b) what seeing his dad get binned will do to Ford Jnr's confidence?
I wonder what Ford will do now, take some time out or jump into another club.

I follow him for his rugby info.
But he is a total twonk, I can't tell if he's a troll, or just genuinely a c*ck.
Gavin Mortimer is very good though, and polite.
