Well this could be a very good thing to watch on the network if they get a few more names. Hopefully HHH can persuade Ibushi since his an "independent contractor"

Re: WWE Global Cruiserweight Series
How will this work then, will WWE just book a winner and leave it up to the wrestlers or will there be certain 'WWE rules' they have to adhere to?
Either way it's a great concept and I'm looking forward to it.

Re: WWE Global Cruiserweight Series
I'd bank on Ibushi competing in some capacity. I know he's left NJPW but I've also read he's setting up his own promotion alongside training students so I wouldn't be surprised if promoted that during the series.
Noam Dar is an excellent addition who will surprise a few...

This tournament is gonna be class though, real chance for the talented individuals to show WWE they deserve a chance.!

Amazing what one Progress show does to a man
For the record ZSJ has to be the favourite to win so far.

Not based on one show.
WWE have had its own way for too long, time for UK wrestling to go to the next step.

Re: WWE Global Cruiserweight Series
If there's 3 guys on from the UK scene I think WWE should be looking at they are Marty, Haskins (who for my money is the form worker in the UK right now) and End
I love Gibson as much as the next man but his gimmick doesn't work outside of the UK
I think WWE will be looking at some Lucha guys to come in but Mexico have guys locked down a lot better contractually than the UK does so I'd imagine that's the hold up when it comes to announcing names, I don't believe any of the LU guys are available for that reason
I think Mike Bailey would also have a shoe in to go were it not for his visa issues, I imagine if WWE really wanted to take his case they could probably get him back in the country but I doubt they would want the hassle
I don't think Ibushi working at Evolve this weekend is a coincidence, I'd guess he has a conversation with WWE at minimum

Gargano and ZSJ are obviously two names they are big on.
Will WWE throw in Kalisto? Will they use main roster talent?
La Sombra has been destined for this for a while by all accounts

Re: WWE Global Cruiserweight Series
Zack Sabre Jr has now been replaced by Lince Dorado in the confirmed participants.
Zack Sabre Jr v Flash Morgan Webster and Jack Gallagher v Pete Dunne confirmed for Progress on April 24th as the two qualifiers. Pretty certain ZSJ is winning as he was originally a confirmed participant and probably Gallagher too, shame Mark Haskins and Marty Scurll aren't involved, hopefully they'll be in the Rev Pro qualifiers.
Evolve on May 7th have Drew Gulak v Tracy Williams and Fred Yehi v TJ Perkins as their qualifiers.

I think its purely for exhibition but also a good way for WWE to scout new talent. They might lay it out as the winner gets an NXT contract but that would feel a bit too much like Tough Enough for me.

Re: WWE Global Cruiserweight Series
Some very exciting names on there but also a lot of guys I haven't heard of or am not that enthused by, nice to see Tyson Dux get his shot at the big time, the guy has been about forever but outside of a brief run in TNA hasn't really been given anything despite being a very good talent, on the flip side how Lince Dorado has made it into the WWE is beyond me
The question of a winner is interesting Id assumed for the longest time that this was where they would debut Manny Almas (or whatever they're calling La Sombra these days) and use this tournament to push him right out of the gate but they swerved me by bringing him up on Takeover along with Busick/Gerrard/Larkin who I also assumed would be another heavy hitter
With all that said I think Marky has a point about them picking from within but with the exception of Tozawa I think everyone in this tournament (that I know) is a free agent and could be picked up by the WWE fairly easily, so with that said I think ZSJr might be the guy they go for or perhaps Ibushi given I think they are 2 NXT might look to acquire in the near future, but I suppose you can't discount Gargano, Cimpia and Swann given they already work there

Ive discovered that Gran Metalik is actually Mascara Dorada under a different name for whatever reason, this is excellent news, the guy is a special talent and while I don't watch him much in CMLL he was criminally underused in his year in New Japan, hopefully WWE use him to more of his full potential

Re: WWE Global Cruiserweight Series
- Episode 1 results:
- Welcome to the debut episode of the Cruiserweight Classic.
Triple H narrates a video package looking at former cruiserweight stars, along with some of the participants in the tournament.
Your commentators for the CWC are Mauro Ranallo and Daniel Bryan. They send it toCorey Graves in the CWC Control Center, which will give us some background on the competitors and the brackets. We see a promo for our first competitors, Gran Metalik and Alejandro Saez. Mike Rome is our ring announcer for the CWC and says there is a 20-minute time limit to these matches. I like the look of the lighting, ring, and ropes.Charles Robinson is our referee and checks the rules with the wrestlers. They shake hands and we're off! Really liking the UFC/Boxing feel to this so far.
Gran Metalik vs. Alejandro Seaz
Saez showing his size advantage early with power moves and heeling up the crowd early. Springboard drop kick from Saez to Gran Metalik for a two. Metalik makes the recovery with acrobatics on the top rope into a drop kick! Metalik makes a huge dive to the outside that connects. Action back into the ring and Metalik hits a flying cross body. Great back and forth action as Saez hits a shooting star press from the apron to the outside. Gran Metalik hits a fireman's carry fisherman's driver almost out of nowhere for the three and the win!
Winner via Pinfall: Gran Metalik
Ho Ho Lun vs. Ariya Daivari
Daivari refuses to shake hands before the match and immediately puts Lun in a headlock. Lun gets out of the way of a clothesline and delivers a dropkick. Lun gives Daivari another kick to the back of the head. Daivari recovers with an elevated neck breaker and slows down the pace with some power moves. Ho Ho gets the support of the crowd with "Ho Ho" chants similar to Sami Zayn's "Ole" chants. Daivari puts Lun into a chin lock but Lun battles back, fails to break, and receives an enziguri. Lun battles back as he gets fired up and delivers a missle drop kick from the second rope. Daivari misses a frog splash. Lun hits a swift kick followed by a Superkick. Lun grabs Daivari, delivers a German Suplex, bridges for the cover and the three count and victory.
Winner via Pinfall: Ho Ho Lun
Cedric Alexander vs. Clement Petiot
Handshake leads to Petiot pulling Alexander in nose-to-nose. Alexander says bring it on as the bell rings. Deep arm drags by Alexander as Petiot heads out of the ring to regroup. Alexander's athleticism has him grab Petiot into a backflip head scissors into a reverse rana. Petiot grabs Cedric and delivers some hard-hitting offense to slow down the pace. Gutwrench suplex from Petiot to Alexander for a two count. Clement maintains control with a chin lock and elbows to Alexander's head. Lateral press on Alexander for a two. Daniel Bryan putting over the hard hitting style that can be seen in cruiserweight competition. Alexander gets huge air on a leaping clothesline. Big corner forearms from Alexander. Each man counters the other's suplex attempts. Petiot hits a big discus clothesline that turns Alexander inside out. Cover for a two! Alexander comes back from the brink to hit a back suplex into a back breaker for the three and the win.
Winner via Pinfall: Cedric Alexander
Kota Ibushi vs. Sean Maluta
Big pop for Ibushi with a WWE-ready type theme song. They shake hands. Ibushi delivers a big kick to Maluta as Sean drops to the canvas. Solid mat based wrestling from both early on, playing into Maluta's favor. Out of nowhere, Ibushi nails a roundhouse kick to Maluta's chest. That will knock the air out of anyone! Maluta goes for a splash but misses. Ibushi heads to the outside and hits a springboard missile drop kick. T-Bone suplex from Ibushi. Maluta hits a code breaker from the second rope! Maluta goes for an acrobatic dive to the outside and gets caught up and nearly misses. Both men go down but quickly return to the ring. Maluta covers for a two. Maluta applies a variety of submissions including a rear chin lock. Kick to the side of the head into a neckbreaker to Ibushi. Lots of offense for Maluta in this one. Big kicks from Maluta to Ibushi, but it only fires up Kota. Ibushi then hits a big drop kick with lots of air. Tons of quick and stiff strikes from Ibushi to Maluta for a two count. Love how Ranallo and Bryan have put over everything they've seen from all the competitors. Maluta heads to the top but Ibushi hits a Pele kick to knock down Maluta. Ibushi connects with a moonsault. Maluta recovers and hits a Superkick on the button for the two count. Nearly a big upset. Ibushi reverses a kick for a big kick to set up a Last Ride Powerbomb for the three count and win for Ibushi. Nice match! Maluta looked great and of course Ibushi backed up the hype.
Winner via Pinfall: Kota Ibushi
We take a look at the updated brackets. Ibushi takes on Cedric Alexander next in the second round. Each man shows respect to the other. Corey Graves previews next week's matches as we go off the air.

Re: WWE Global Cruiserweight Series
I thought Jack Gallagher was great as was Aichner, can see WWE picking him up. Stand out match though was Gargano v Ciampa - both have signed exclusive deals with NXT so that looks like it could be an awesome feud, story telling in a 12 min match was fantastic and some of Ciampa's elbow shots looked like they genuinely knocked Johnny out.
Cant wait for the next round, going to be a tough choice between Ibushi, Tozawa, Sabre Jr, Swann, Brian Kendrick - not sure where its going
