Week 7 Results
- Macc Town:
- ------------------------Horvath----------------------------
Hysaj---------Koulibaly--------Kimmich------------Willems
---------------------Weigl-----Casemiro-----------------------
Coman--------------------------------------Iwobi
----------------------Fekir----Lukaku-----------------------------
Subs: Samper, Coric, Gabigol, Sule, Dahoud, Barbossa, Janssen
We're reverting to 4-4-2, letting them control possession in non-dangerous areas, attacking with speed and purpose through the flanks. Defensively it's containment, keep Robben on wrong foot, Koulibaly to get physical with Ibra, Kimmich to track the movement of Vardy. Weigl/Casemiro to add extra protection, then balls out wide.
Going forward Lukaku target their emergency central defender (presume Alonso), use Fekir to keep Koscielny busy, be ready to pounce on loose balls with new keeper. Wingers to mix up their game, keep fullbacks guessing if going inside or down flank.
Subs: If losing – Janssen for Fekir, two physical guys up front, get balls into the box.
- Man Utd:
- Macc Town v Manchester United
Formation:4-4-2 (Diamond)Reina
Varela Hernandes Koscielny Maxwell
Alonso
Kante Motta
Coutinho
Vardy Ibrahimovic
Subs
Aurier
Borthwick-Jackson
Robben
Ben Arfa
Brandt
Toni
Injured Players
Terry
Laporte
Casillas
Tactics
Macc losing Pogba and Erikssen we need to take control of midfield so we've gone narrow. FB to show wingers inside forcing them into our midfield when attacking hug touch line and get crosses in. Koscielny to pick up Lukaku anticipate what he will do and make your move. Alonso kick the ball ticking look to hit long at times, Kante and Motta take turns to get forward, intercept and block of passing angles. Coutinho play ball to feet to Ibra and behind defence for Vardy to run on to. Vardy press defence Ibra play within 18 yard box.
SUB 70 MIN IF LOSING
Motta off Robben on (We go 4-4-2 with natural width)
SUB 75 MIN IF WINNING
Ibra off Brandt on (Fresh legs to hit them on the counter)
I think Viva had a good idea flooding the midfield with Hero missing key players, and it did make a big difference to the game. I think Alonso, Kante and Motta dictate possession and Coutinho in front of them is too much for Weigl and Casemiro in pure numbers. With Vardy and Ibrahimovic getting plenty of joy 2 on 2 against the Macc centre backs. The problem was it left Man Utd exposed to the wingers and strikers of Macclesfield, with Coman, Iwobi, Fekir and Lukaku being up against an injury hit Man Utd defence it made for an exciting goal fest. Man U edged it for me by winning the midfield battle. It's not beyond the realms of possibility for this to be a freak result based on the attacks so that's how it ended.
Macclesfield Town 4-5 Manchester United
Lukaku, Iwobi, Fekir, Coman; Vardy x2, Ibrahimovic, Coutinho, Robben
-------------------------------
- Liaoning Whowin:
- Liaoning Whowin v MK Dons
-----------------------------Subasic-----------------------------
Lahm-----------------Silva------------Pepe-----------------Telles
------------------------------Blind------------------------------
---------------Payet--------------------Guardado-----------------
--------El Ghazi------------------------------Martial------------
-----------------------------Cavani------------------------------
INJURIES
CB Wes Morgan (Best CB )
CM Sebastian Rudy
CM Joao Moutinho
BENCH
Iraizoz
Lichsteiner
Tierney
Storie
Valbuena
Ousmane Dembele
Moussa Dembele
If winning - Lichtsteiner for El Ghazi - move to 5 at the back with Blind CB and Lahm DM (5-3-2)
If losing - Lichsteiner and Ousmane Dembele for Pepe and Guardado, 4-4-2 with Martial moving upfront.
Tactics (100 words)
Modric and Costa are their key men and must not be allowed on the ball. Lahm is better defensively and can nullify Costa, and Guardado/Payet (mainly Guardado should be quick to pressurise Modric as sooon as he gets on the ball. Overall quickly pressure and don't let them settle on the ball.
When we get the ball attack with pace, inside forwards drift in, sometimes drop deeper and run at their defense, sometimes getting in behind, with Cavani staying central as the focal point. Payet should be getting forward with freedom, with the other two CMs passing it from deeper.
- MK Dons:
- Injuries: Verratti, Djourou, Batshuayi.
-------------------Zoet------------------
Piszczek - Miranda - Rudiger - Ansaldi
----------Herrera-----Modric-----------
Costa------------Ziyech-----------Draxler
------------------Aduriz-------------------
Subs: Weidenfeller, Vrsaljko, Palmer, Elia
Going forward, I want Costa and Draxler to push into space out wide and deliver the ball into Aduriz who will be looking to hold up play and get in and around the box. Modric is to pull the strings as the DLP controlling the pace of the game in which we want to posses the ball as much as possible especially in the midfield area. Defensively i want us to stick to the back 4 as a unit controlling the onslaught from Cavani and Martial who i expect to start up front. Miranda and Rudiger to mark them both.
Elia to come on for Draxler - 80th Minute to freshen up the wing play.
Hard to separate these two. I think Draxler v Lahm only ends in Lahm's favour, but Douglas Costa has Telles every day and twice on Sundays, so that's where MK Dons' joy came from. Blind wouldn't have been a bad option at LB to counter Costa. MK Dons with Modric in midfield was great but lacked bite with neither Herrera or Modric willing to do defensive duties. This gave Payet free reign for Whowin to create plenty of chances of their own, with Martial and Cavani causing problems (Martial causing Piszczek all kinds of problems). On another day MK Dons pinch the win but Whowin hold on at home with Trebs' faithful fans (both of them) backing his side to a hard earned point.
Liaoning Whowin 2-2 MK Dons
Cavani, Martial; Costa, Aduriz

I don't personally agree with the result but it's Marky's call to make so I'll abide by it. Well played Viva.

Re: Week 7 Results
The 4-5 result was because both sides created plenty of chances. Could just have easily been 1-2 but it happens in real life so why not here?
I still think Viva edged it with his midfield diamond.

Serious question:
Hero told Lukaku to stick to Hernandez, Viva tells Koscielny to stick to Lukaku. How do voters decide which player Lukaku was put next to? In real life you never see a 90-minute jostling match at CB/ST whereby four players are playing Twister to follow their manager's instructions.

Re: Week 7 Results
Personally I'd think that for moments the defender sticks to him, and at other times the striker manages to get free, it'd also allow the additional striker to get some space.

Re: Week 7 Results
I think it just makes space for other players, and would expect Lukaku to have less impact on the game
