Dominic Day is off to Japan.
Does he come under Gatlands law.
He's off to Japan at the end of the season, shame, as I think he could have done a job for one of the regions and kept his Wales hope's alive. But rugby is a fickle game I suppose, and you must take the ££££ when they are on offer.

The Scarlets had shown interest in him, but to be fair to him money talks. And so does a good reason to go and see other parts of the world that very few actually get to see first hand.

Day arrived at Bath from the Scarlets in 2012 and has since made over 100 appearances for the club and has also won X caps for Wales.
Ha top journo work, that is on the fail's level.

For those who are interested he won 3 caps at time when I suspect he had probably given up on ever playing for his country.
Apparently the Scarlets wanted him but he has chosen to call time on his Wales career and play in Japan.

Good on him! Happy for him to get a super pension. Always a committed player for Bath. With him and Hooper out of the row and Charteris (maybe, some saying it might be cancelled) and Stooke coming in and with Ewels emerging and Garvey maybe moving up a row, it is going to be a much changed pack. Not to mention Hatley probably leaving and Faletau coming in.

Why is Charteris's move potentially being cancelled ? That sounds like big news to me.

Re: Dominic Day is off to Japan.
Seagul, I think he gave on getting Welsh caps when Coombs and Lou Reed were capped. I remember when he went to bath a mate of his telling me that was English qualified and was hoping being at Bath would put him on the English radar. So getting capped when he did must have been a real bolt out if the blue, and given his chances are going to be exceptionally remote a move to Japan (and I assume a good pay day) is a good call.
Also he's only 30, so he could still end up back at one of the regions after this contract.

I think the cancelation in Charteris moving to BAth might be because of the news I have just here'd about AWJ.

He didn't want to move back to the Scarlets as he didnt enjoy his last time there. Him and Nadia wanted to live in a different country and culture and hes getting paid way more than the Blues offered him

Re: Dominic Day is off to Japan.
Charteris cancellation nothing to do with AWJ as far as i'm aware, that's new news to me. It was more about a change of heart from the player and/or club

I'm pretty happy with Screech, Hill and blooding Davies tbh (as far as WQ second rows go).

Re: Dominic Day is off to Japan.
Hopefully he will still be available to play for Wales despite being in Japan. However, travel expenses from Wales to Japan are high and I can see him falling out of favour with the WRU if they (the WRU) pay players' travel expenses. The WRU has a massive debt to pay back, they're not in a position to spend hundreds of pounds on a player's travel expenses from Japan to Wales and back. Travel expenses from France are expensive for them (considering the amount of debt they have), let alone travel expenses from Japan. We need to make cuts in order to reduce the deficit. Spending money on bringing a player from Japan to Wales and back is simply too expensive for the WRU, IMO.

Re: Dominic Day is off to Japan.
A pity to see him go as he has made a positive contribution in his time at Bath unlike his compatriots Evans, Priestland and Edwards the coach.
Interesting that Japan has been the destination and suspect an increasing number will look to Japan as an option in their careers and having been there I can understand the attraction, as it is a fascinating place. Good luck to him and he could well be one of the first of many.
