Cynicism aside, nothing quite like England in an international tournament.

I think England fans are louder than the Russian ones, at least.

Gerrard had scored as captain from midfield by this point in the 2010 world cup, wake up Wayne

Been tempted to start with Sturridge, don't fancy their CBs ability to turn and run.

Been a while since I've seen an England team so fluid. Playing wide players is making the overlapping FBs so much more dangerous

Lallana & Sterling won't trouble the back of the net, so huge pressure on Kane

England's early intensity has now dribbled away; Russia seeing more of the ball.

Kane shouldn't be on corners because he can't take a decent corner

Re: Euro 2016 Discussion
Decent from England..Sterling and Lallana been our best players so far and Rooney having a decent enough game. Kane not looking good at all for me...add in the corners and he's quickly becoming a dissapointment. For the passes Rooney is making in his role I think Vardy is much better suited..also has to be said the one problem we have had this far is that when we have broken there's a real lack of support in the box.
Decent enough though lets just hope we can get a goal.

Re: Euro 2016 Discussion
I can literally see no good reason for Kane to take corners. There are at least 4 players I'd have ahead of him and that ignores the fact he is good in the air!

Kanes done ok as a lone frontman, occupying the centre backs so the players in behind have the room.

Re: Euro 2016 Discussion
That's all well and good but you either need to hold ball up so others can get forward into the box..or you have to occupy and then turn and run to be there for the crosses that those who have got in behind are putting it.
It's not all his fault, the team especially midfield there are very deep...I mean that sterling break just then..he's pushed forward with pace..by time the 2nd wave of players have caught up Russia had 7 men back and sterling a had to pass back.

They aren't really asking him to hold it up at the moment.

Rooney and Rose playing well. Walker also showing why he's ahead of Clyne

Fantastic half from England. Done everything bar score. And they've been pretty close to doing that too.

Nothing surprising about us not scoring. Lallana & Sterling offer nothing in terms of goals.

Re: Euro 2016 Discussion
Good half from England, though they'll be disappointed not to be ahead.
Lallana is having one of his best games in an England shirt, with Walker offering excellent support. Sterling and Kane started well, but have faded somewhat. Haven't seen a lot of Rooney or Alli, in truth.
It's not reasonable to expect Russia to be as poor in the second half, so England will need to replicate the high-intensity that they showed.

The way this game has gone I'd have Sturridge on for Kane. Think this is better suited for him in behind

I think this is where we will see if we can carry it on as Russia can only get better surely in this half.

Re: Euro 2016 Discussion
About to say that GSC, I'm not sure Engalnd know what they want from him. Is he a lone frontman who holds up and allows others to get in...in which case midfield of Rooney/Alli has to get supporting quicker..or is he a man to get in behind..in which case in not sure he's a better option than Vardy for that..
Good half (wouldn't stretch to fantastic, Russia are without couple of key players) we have looked positive, created some chances..just need a goal. Longer we go without one the more I worry.
One thing needs to change at half time....someone in the team man up and tell Kane 'your absolutely crud at corners don't think about taking them again'

Re: Euro 2016 Discussion
I can only think of Rose as a better corner option. Lallana and Sterling wouldn't be, Rooney is a bit too floaty. Alli?

Re: Euro 2016 Discussion
They're doubling up on Sterling which is why Rose had so much room at the end of the half.
Rooneys played well from deep, Allis dropping into the space well.

Kane has done nothing, he doesn't put the hard work in. Just waits for the glory. Don't get me started on why he's taking corners. He needs to be subbed.

Presumably that doesn't include 2006:
Euro 2008 - DNQ
WC 2010 - Slovenia
Euro 2012 - Sweden and Ukraine
WC 2014 - Nil wins

Duty..how did you keep faith and positivity with that record! I mean I was always baffled at your eternal faith in them..now even more so.
Yeh very flat...Rooney didn't even bother chasing after losing that last ball. Russia keeping ball and frustrating an England team that don't look interested in pressing any longer. Foothold soon is essential.

2012 and '14 England had a half-decent chance - 2006/2010 and now...very little.
