Another NI fan has died.

He collapsed during the game.

Re: Euro 2016 Discussion
With Spurs letting in the least amount of goals in the PL, the defence must be superb covering for Walker, especially with all these decent left wingers causing him trouble, you'd think Pochettino would get rid with him being such a poor defender.LiamB wrote:GSC wrote:Did someone say Weiss will test out Walker? Hes proper cack, Chris Gunter had him in his pocket.
Walker is cack at defending, for 180 minutes, he's been an attacking right winger. Only have to look at his defending in the Pl, to see a decent left winger will cause him problems. That's kind of the thing with tournament, things you expect to happen don't, like Belgium losing or NI winning.

Well, I reclined in my recliner and ..yep, fell asleep for that first half. I woke up to realise I missed nothing.
There has be some way of reinventing football in some way to get the idea of entertainment back into it - oh for the days of the wild goalkeepers who would come half way up the field trying to be mid-fielders, or the fifty metre Brazilian strikes.....

It's been a cack tournament so far, having four third placed teams progressing means that there's even more reward for sitting back and defending for 90 minutes.

Exactly, i'm not saying Gomez is a better player but he offers something they don't have with all these 10's, movement in the box and the eye for a goal rather than this lethargic side to side passing.LiamB wrote:Had a bad knee ligament injury & some other time out of the side during that spell. He's a good striker, is ideal for this German side bringing everyone into the game. Top scorer at 2012 too.

This is really the Germany i saw a lot of in qualifying, despite a lot of goals, against a decent defense look kind of rudderless. The way they play requires some quality full backs which is by far their weakest position.

Almost did a bet at the start that there would be no 0-0's in group stages.

The first 0-0 of Euro2016.
Poland should've won that, may regret that if they get a worse draw as runners up.
Ukraine are the first side officially eliminated

Don't think Gomez is really the answer for Germany, they need a Sturridge type player I think.

Is it just me or is the quality in this tournament pretty naff? I've enjoyed it but there are no stand out teams. It's a bit of a lottery who could win it, hardly any moments of real quality in any of the matches. Hopefully things open up as the tournament progresses.

I dunno, I'm enjoying it a lot. Its generally fairly tight in the opening round, losing your opening game is pretty hard to come back from.

The team that bit me - and I was glad they did - was Italy. I'm not saying they'll win...but there is just something about them that smells authentic/romantic for a competition like this.
For most of what I've seen so far, it all just seems Leaguey. No extra spark, no players looking to make household names for themselves, all of them obeying close coaching orders. It's all method and no maverick showmanship. These big contests should be about players wanting to stand out and become world stars not league stars.

Have enjoyed it so far myself.
Didnt watch the game tonight, hopefully that will be the only 0-0.
I'll be very interested in Italy Sweden game tomorrow.
Will want Italy to win.
Even 2 days away, am very nervous about the Belguim game.

Yea that's the impression i get, i don't know if its just because a long season has finished or if it's just a sole focus on solidity and results but there haven't been many oustanding performances. Payet, Iniesta a side. It is quite sad to be missing Holland, they always bring colour and attacking football to the party.

Yeah 4 3rd placed teams will make the next round and play the winners of Groups A-D.
3 points could be pretty marginal. Our groups pretty likely to reach 4.
As long as NI don't lose by a shedload against Germany, their second goal today could prove to be very valuable.

England need to drop Kane and sterling from the starting 11 against Slovakia and play sturridge and vardy. Vardy for his hard work and pace, sturridge for his game changing moments of class. This probably means a change in formation though. A shame Roy still doesn't seem to know his best team.

I'd also drop Lallana personally for Rashford, he showed when he came on he wasn't phased at all and combined with Vardy/Sturridge actually went at the Wales defence.

I think Rashford is definitely gonna be better coming off the bench like yesterday rather than starting - also as much as I don't like him, Lallana has done well the past two games
Sturridge playing off the right/a free role worked well with Vardy sitting on the last man - so I'd go with
Sturridge------Alli-------Lallana
---------------Vardy-----------
But wouldn't be against Vardy being kept as an impact sub and Kane starting

I think Lallana has been one of Englands best players so far. Only problem is he only lasts 45 minutes before he runs out of stamina.
Rashford didnt really do enough for me out wide against Wales to earn a starting berth

Re: Euro 2016 Discussion
I think Rashford, Sturridge and Vardy is going to be too attacking. Lallana has played really well and importantly is very good at defending high up the pitch, he'll often the nick the ball in dangerous areas. It's also a big reason why Walker has been able to get up that side of the pitch is because of the pressing of Lallana.
I'd definitely drop Kane and Sterling for Sturridge and Vardy. I'm not sure who'd I have at that tip of that though. I feel both would be wasted going wide. Probably best to let it remain fluid, Sturridge is better at taking people on, but Vardy has more pace.

The only change I would make would be Sturridge for Kane. Sterling has been cack so far but does give us a pacy outlet, and having Rashford, Vardy, and Kane on the bench is comforting.

Re: Euro 2016 Discussion
Sterling and Rooney have been woeful thus far and need to be dropped (but 1 of them certainly won't be), but I would favour giving Kane one final chance. He's had an excellent couple of seasons, and England shouldn't jettison him at the first sign of difficulty.
