Really expected more from Ukraine with the likes of Konoplyanka and Yarmolenko in particular

Re: Euro 2016 Discussion
Actually the original point was plenty of teams have done just enough in winning tournaments... I said Greece are arguably the only team to do that..as I view smash and grab wins whilst playing defensive as doing just enough. Spain won two comfortably..2008/2012...and won one with 1-0 wins and even then the vast majority of the times they dominated possession, dictated and controlled the game. It wasn't pretty but they were in control most of the time and like I said in my opinion that isn't doing "just enough".
Regards things not being comparable, fair enough the Spanish team that dominated or on another level; but they were always viewed as perrienial underachievers...just like England...yet they have lost that tag well and truly..when they got a collective group of good players they began to progress into a major winning team. I don't think the same can be said of England and it's not like we have lacked players in the past 20 years. For all the moaning we have had plenty of players across the pitch who are highly regarded by fellow professionals not just pundits/media.

Ukraine need this.
They also need someone to give the players a slap.

Walker is cack at defending, for 180 minutes, he's been an attacking right winger. Only have to look at his defending in the Pl, to see a decent left winger will cause him problems. That's kind of the thing with tournament, things you expect to happen don't, like Belgium losing or NI winning.

Hart: 1
Gets a point for swearing on the beeb. Had 1 routine thing to do all game and failed to do it.
Walker: 8
Englands best player, routinely went past Taylor like he wasn't there.
Cahill: 6
Did what he had to well enough, but always the sense theres a clanger in him waiting to happen.
Smalling: 6
Pretty much the same as Cahill.
Rose: 6
Could've been more adventurous given Wales' ambition or lack of it.
Dier: 7
Mops up and covers well, but had his limitations on the ball in open play. Swapping him for Wilshere might've made more sense than Rashford for Lallana.
Rooney: 8
Dictated the game from deep. Every so often has a moment that reminds you hes not fully comfortable in this role, but growing into it.
Alli: 7
The way both Russia and Wales have sat deep is denying him space in front of the defense to work in, but still clever enough both to find space and cause problems in it. Should get rewards against more open sides.
Sterling: 3
Looks utterly bereft of confidence, surely his starting berth is gone. His pace could be a weapon late on in games, but needs building back up.
Kane: 5
Worked hard, tried to link up but really hasn't happened for him in this team.
Lallana: 7
Bright, inventive and effective for 45 minutes. Rinse and repeat

Fortunately Belgium are here, otherwise Ukraine would have a clear run as biggest disappointments in the group stage.

Re: Euro 2016 Discussion
Well England and Slovakia are both on 4 points already. And Wales will be expected to at least avoid defeat to Russia and join them.
Romania could get to 4 if they beat Albania.
So its probably unlikely. Getting a 2nd goal might help.

Re: Euro 2016 Discussion
GSC, If England win group & face the best third place from A/C/D, how do they decide which one they face, seeing as A/B/F can face the winner of group C & the winner of group A can face the best placed from C/D/E. I don't get how it's all sorted out.

NI should be in the running for one of those best 3rd placed positions? Is it 4 best 3rd placed teams go through?

I looked at it earlier and had no ****ing clue.
http://www.uefa.org/MultimediaFiles/Download/Regulations/uefaorg/Regulations/02/03/92/81/2039281_DOWNLOAD.pdf
On page 16 it seems to lay out every possibility based on where the 4 3rd placed teams come from.
Its probably not worth thinking about until the beeb work out who we're likely to play.

Must say I was sceptical of the 24 team tournament, but it's been brilliant to see some of these teams like Iceland, northern Ireland, Albania etc go up against the more established nations and potentially get through.
Wonderful from northern Ireland

Yeah 4 3rd placed teams will make the next round and play the winners of Groups A-D.
3 points could be pretty marginal. Our groups pretty likely to reach 4.

I like more games, but the format is a bit farcical. Would 4 groups of 6 teams be worse?

Re: Euro 2016 Discussion
Seems like if Romania beat Albania, they're our most likely opponent.
If they don't Turkey or Czech Republic are fairly likely, with an outside chance of Northern Ireland if neither Group A or D produce a 3rd place qualifier.

I actually think it's better for the game.
They will improve against better opposition.
And a chance to pull off a great result.
Also makes the tournament longer.

Seems unfair you get a 3rd place team in the knock out round if you are in group a-d but a second if you are in e, f.

ah, cos if Italy win group E, they face the runner up of group D, which is Croatia or Spain

If you have hopes of winning the tournament it shouldn't matter who you play.

Low is an idiot not starting Gomez, they need a poacher in there rather than 3 attacking midfielders. Ozil absolutely invisible as usual.

Gomez has been on fire this season and scored in both friendlies he's started, Gotze offers no movement, Muller should at least be up top, no movement from the front 3, terrible. Just because he won a world cup with a great team doesn't mean he doesn't make mistakes.

Had a bad knee ligament injury & some other time out of the side during that spell. He's a good striker, is ideal for this German side bringing everyone into the game. Top scorer at 2012 too.

0-0 at half time.
Germany have had a few moments but generally struggled to break down Poland. Bit of a stalemate at the moment.
