Re: French Open Day 2 - Taylor swift? Quick Sands? Beck fast?
Play suspended so far...and just looking at the forecast for next 14 days in Paris its very patchy indeed.
Going to be lots of rain breaks and cold days. Fixture congestion here we come.
Still...why bother putting a roof over a slam that takes place in late May in Northern Europe...
This needs to be a late June slam...and Wimb late July...plus AO is too hot in Jan and USO too rainy in early Sept. why cant they jusy sort the annual schedule slam out!

Rosol v Stan is underway ... hardly any spectators. Hard to believe he is last years champion. Looks bliddy cold there. Score 2-2. bit scrappy so far

Rosol takes the first set 6-4 against Wawrinka. A real test this for all aspects of Stan's game.

Stan was very slow out of the blocks and let Rosol get an early foot hold before he started waking up. Never been much of a fan of Rosol,( the man that is,) but have to say he can play some really decent tennis and as you say he is testing Stan all ways up.. Stan needs to put his champions hat on and get stuck in here

I do feel that all Stan needs to do is win one set be it this one or even the next and I think he will come through okay. Rosol can play at great levels but is susceptible once things start going against him.

Yes I agree .. he can get a little over confident (cocky actually) when he is ahead and tends to play high risk shots unnecessarily .

The only thing is that it is going to be draining energy levels having to play a two and a half hour match (as Stan breaks to lead 2-1) in the First Round especially considering he only finished a tournament in Geneva 48 hours earlier.

Yes he really should not have let that first set get away from him.. it was a tired start I have to say.. maybe the rain delays i.e. schedule will give him time to catch up.. not popular in some quarters I know

A double break for Stan here and the match has ruined right around . Rosol leads 6-4 1-5.

And Stan feeds (if he needs to) on a breadstick to level at one set all.

A bad game there from Stan gives Rosol the break.. he went on a mental walkabout I think

Sloppy service game from Stan and Rosol breaks to lead 2-0 in the third set.

Re: French Open Day 2 - Taylor swift? Quick Sands? Beck fast?
The drop shot from Rosol is taking its toll on Stans already tired legs..
he is noticeably slow in getting to the net.
He has to work hard here to get back into the 3rd set

I'd still say Stan just needs to hang in there and Rosol could quite easily capitulate. Even so this match is putting strains on his energy levels.

But at the moment now it is just about staying in the tournament. Rosol leads Stan 6-4 1-6 4-1.

Mmm I might agree if Stan wasn't playing two poor shots to one brilliant one.
If he is tired, as I assume he must be, after the last tournament the cold weather wont help.. if it were warmer there his muscles would be a lot looser but he looks physically stretched.

Wawrinka should not have played Geneva, in hindsight.

Understandable why he did though. His clay court form up to then had stunk the place out. He needed match practice on clay.

And Rosol takes the third set to lead 6-4 1-6 6-3. If Stan is to stay in the tournament he needs to dig deep and hang tough. Help maybe around the corner from Rosol.

Rosol has the bit between his teeth though and I sense he can smell blood.
Im not sure if Stan can hold him off for two sets... I hope Im wrong

Re: French Open Day 2 - Taylor swift? Quick Sands? Beck fast?
But in counterfactual historical foresight, Wawrinka would probably have lost in straight sets 6-4 6-1 6-3 if he had skipped Geneva.laverfan wrote:Wawrinka should not have played Geneva, in hindsight.
Remember too that Rosol played at Geneva.

Stan lets four break points slip through his fingers in that game. Fourth set still on serve.

Rosol did well to hold that serve when he came back from love 40
He shows no signs of blowing cold yet. This is not the way Stan would have wanted to defend his title Im sure

To be fair...its not a bruising 5 setter...mid way through 5th and still "only" 2hrs 49.
Stan should win this now...3-1 up.
