The Final Smackdown - South Africa v Ireland 25 June 2016
First topic message reminder :
It's the one we all secretly hoped for - winning a test and being in with a chance to win the series.
The Boks transformed and then re-transformed somewhere in the middle of the second half of the second test. Ireland blew it.
Now there's a chance for Redemption or Ridicule.
At least Bok fans can't say Ireland haven't won a test away in South Africa anymore.....
Or when Irish fans point out after Saturday that the head-to-head record since 2000 is P 12, W 5 L 7, Bok fans won't say yeah but those wins were all at home, and Ireland haven't played in SA since 2004.
Small victories.....
In fact, come to think of it, when was the last time that South Africa toured Ireland, eh? Let's get the re-match set up now. November 2019, three-test tour by SA in Ireland, NZ can take on England, Argentina in Wales and Australia in Scotland. I'd buy tickets for those.
Meanwhile, there's a match on Saturday - same time, same place - different result??

Feck the football, it's all about the partying and this format means it goes on for a week longer for most teams.

oh, and I can't get 'Will Griegs on fire out of my head'.
Surely with Stander back the crowd can sing
"CJ's on fire, and your outhalf is terrified!"

I am so sick of that song Sin é, it's in my head day and night and as soon as I turn on a TV or radio to hear something else, it's on there too
I never liked it as a pop song and I like it less now.
Still, it's great to watch the Irish party in France, complete eejits that they all are to a man.
Anyway, back to the real sporting event of the weekend, can we make history? I am praying so, we had the job done a week ago right up until those Boks took it from us. We just have to keep playing as we had done for a match and a half.

Oh how I agree with that. Please let it not appear at any point in the future modified as a rugby song.
I'm kinda tired of all chant songs actually...including Ole, Ole, Ole, Leinster, Leinster, Munster, Munster, Stand up for Ulstermen... and Fields of Athenry. We get it folks.... but not on ever damn 'great fans' video. Expand the song list for all sports or just cheer.
I'd prefer some tribal Zulu stuff - complex and with shields and spears and things

So gatland gets thumped 3-0 in NZ with no real plan of how to beat them, should pretty much rule him out of the lion's selection. Unfortunately that probably makes Schmidt favourite?
Hope he does not take that job. If he is still with Ireland that is

We gonna get some poetic justice here? Two wrongs don't make a right but he lands on his neck and the precedent has been set.

Ridiculous, CJ not in a position to get the ball = RED and La Roux deemed not in position to get the ball = YELLOW. Disgraceful.

Let's be clear- there's no way that should be a red. But it's a red 50% of the time under the current interpretation.

Whilst I might agree with the lack of consistency, I do believe this call was correct and the CJ one was incorrect.eirebilly wrote:Ridiculous, CJ not in a position to get the ball = RED and La Roux deemed not in position to get the ball = YELLOW. Disgraceful.

Its absolutely a red if CJ's was deemed a red.
For the record, I believe that both incidents were yellow but I want consistency.

I don't like how much focus seems to go on where a player lands, especially when he has little control over his movement after a collision, and all his instincts will be to try and land more safely.
You end up rewarding an offender for his victim's ability to avoid ruin.

Typical SH referee - no idea why people think they are good. Jackson is dreadful at the breakdown.

Great kick, great try. Henderson should have had a penalty, SA holding on.

How was that not a penalty to Ireland for holding on to the ball when Henderson looked to turn over in the lead up to the try?
I don't like to blame ref's but SA are certainly getting the rub of the green here.

Indeed. Just look at how Faf was stripped after the Irish went back five metres with no call #Yawn

Do the Irish have a different metric for ten metres?

Looked ok to me but if the ruling went against Ireland I would understand.
How do you feel the ruling against La Roux was compared to the ruling against CJ in the first test?

Obviously got a little lucky. Not quite like for like but I'd understand a red

Re: The Final Smackdown - South Africa v Ireland 25 June 2016
I think it was pretty like for like myself given the ref's explanation. Fairness I believe both were yellow cards.
Not taking it away from the try (the lack of a penalty) as it was a perfect kick and chase.
Hopefully Ireland can turn it up a notch in the second half and be a little more clinical. Marshall took his try well but he is not having the best of games, Olding is playing brilliantly.

Marshall looks very strong in contact but he is making a few too many mistakes.
Similar story with Jackson.

Both were red.
Today, if La Roux is deemed not in a position to get the ball and player lands on his neck then it must be a red. If La Roux is deemed to be a position to get the ball then it is not even a penalty. It cannot possibly be a yellow. It must be red or nothing.

Disappointing from Ireland. Too many dropped balls. Two visits to the 22 in the last few and no points.

Most of the offloads we have attempted have been unsuccessful. Perhaps Joe was right and the vast majority our players (with the exception of Payne) aren't actually good at it.
I would bring Dillane on for Murphy, move Henderson to 6.

Cant see Ireland winning this now, very uncharacteristic of them to have too many handling errors. That and the scrum is being destroyed.

Not to worry. The magic of Allister Coetzee rugby is that the opposition will always be within reach. And by that I mean even when his sides are winning. Defeat is still possble at all times
