Perhaps the morons at Muirfield can find it within themselves to do the right thing also.

They'll revert the decision after The Open.

Would have been interesting if the vote had gone the wrong way. Would Troon have lost The Open at this late stage?

I'm not that familiar with the situation, but I thought Troon had a men's club and ladies club which shared the course and both clubs were jointly hosting the Open? Doesn't sound terrible to me

Exactly Ray. Strikes me a bit like Liverpool voting to accept Evertonians - they've got their own club with the same course so why would they join the men's club anyway?

One thing changing the rules another enrolling some ladies .How many at Augusta probably 3 or 4.
Im with Allis for once not keen on joining the ladies luncheon club.
Off topic there is a God -Chris Evans quits.

Re: Royal Troon votes to allow women members
I think the comments of Alliss were absolutely disgusting. Saying that women should have to marry a member if they wanted to join is ridiculous. More insulting was his comment about clubs being for like-minded people like lawyers, doctors, accountants. It's obviously never occurred to him that women can also be lawyers, doctors, accountants, and that women might also want to be a member at a championship golf course.
So glad that we have seen the last of him. Am looking forward to watching the Open without having to listen to his sexist views.

true be nice to see the final holes without Peter rattling on about the Titherington foursomes .
However Hazel and Richie will no doubt ask some totally stupid questions of the players.
I see no reason though why a group should not set up its own membership rules.Men, women, Christians, trainspotters whatever. I see the changes under pressure as little more than a gesture. Cannot see a sign out side saying ' new lady members welcome '
For the record my own club is and always has been totally equal basis and equal fees.Still low numbers of lady players though.

I agree that a private club should be able to set its own membership rules. Although personally I don't understand why a golf club would want to ban women.
But a club that chooses to exclude 50% of the population shouldn't have the honour of hosting a tournament which is a global advert for the game.

But Murifield isn't really a private club when it chooses to hold a very public event and let people play on the course. The moment you offer any service to the public you should be forced to offer it to everyone and in an fair manner.

The older one gets, the more it becomes apparent that the Titherington foursomes - and similar events at every club - are in fact the real essence of golf. It is closer to the level that most of us play at, and and it encompasses the reason we play far more than the Open Championship.
I know Peter Alliss isn't everyone's cup of tea but when golf loses sight of the grass roots level, then it's the end of the game as we have known it. And it was good.

The Titherington foursomes are fine - we just don't want to hear about it on prime time TV when we could be hearing about the professionals. Sadly Peter knew more about the Titherington foursomes than the modern day professional game

George I like Peter always have done and his bio is a great read the man almost invented professional golf.
Just the timing I didn't like .Two/three of the worlds greatest players battling out the final holes on a tough course and Peter wants to talk about cakes and someones county foursomes .
Very clever individual Peter and has done a tremendous amount for all levels of the game .Not afraid to speak his mind.Hazel will probably ask someone 'what pleased you most about your 10 shot victory in the Open?'

I don't mind if he wants to talk about the Titherington foursomes type stuff but I would be happy to never hear from him again if he has moved into spouting sexist s**te.
We can only hope the sky golf team is freshened up now that they have the open because they are one of the worst commentary and presenter teams of any sport that I watch.
