Belfast Advice Please !
I'm coming over the Belfast this weekend on Friday afternoon for the QUB Open day on Saturday with my lad.
Can any Belfast based posters please advise:
1 - Is the Ulster game on TV and a suitable establishment to watch it in ?
2 - General advice about good pubs/places on the Saturday /afternoon night.
We're staying in a BnB on the Malone Road near the Botanic pub, I know my way around central Belfast a wee bit but haven't been in the city centre for a long time.
Thanks in advance.

Ryans at the junction of Wellesley Ave and Lisburn good is good for food and its cheap too and a few minutes walk from where you are staying, Laverys are showing the Ulster matches and if your boy is going to Queens it'll be a spot he'll come to be familiar with though on a Saturday night may be quite busy but the Bot(anic) will probably have it on too

Get down to the Cathedral Quarter for Saturday night. The Duke of York, the Sunflower, the Spaniard, the Dirty Onion, John Hewitt's, the Black Box.

Re: Belfast Advice Please !
To be honest almost all pubs would show the Ulster game but remember its on Saturday this week not Friday.
The Fly Belfast is the best pub for watching rugby in Belfast I think- I might be biased because there was an Ulster poster who worked there who actually posted on 606v2 for a while. He was working hard to do promotions concerning rugby and really make it a bit of a rugby pub. No idea if he works there or not, but its always good when the guys behind the bar are rugby fans.
On Saturday it depends what you want to do- if you want to give your lad a taste of what its like to go out as a student in Belfast, the city centre is useless in general. None of the students go there; its all about the University area and the Golden Mile. The Cathedral Quarter is useless for students. Firstly, it's a different age profile. Probably 25 to 40. Secondly, you'll not meet any girls who would date a spotty student boy there. Thirdly, the pints are way more expensive than the cheap ones in the Union.
You see the city centre is generally great because its far away enough from the University area to avoid the young and obnoxious student crowd. But your lad will be part of the young and obnoxious student crowd. So he should concentrate on all the pubs I used to love seven or eight years ago but now think are completely rubbish and filled with annoying children.
Remember studying at a University as an undergraduate is a time for doing some seriousthinking drinking. Undergrads should leave the actual learning things and going to nice, cultured, adult pubs to us postgrads
Anyway, there will be a lot of pubs in the University area showing the game- but I still think The Fly is your best bet by far.

And you know what, if you like craft beers of all varieties you should definitely check out BrewBot on the Ormeau Road.

Take your boy to the Crown on Great Victoria Street.
Probably classic tourist fodder but I'm still a sucker for it.

Thank you all for your advice - we had a great time in Belfast and son has fallen totally in love with Queens and the city itself. Now number one on his application form.
