I've concluded that Nathan Fowles isn't particularly good.

Is it really 8-26? WTF are we playing at?
It certainly doesn't sound like rugby.

Difficult to say with Hardie and Barclay about. You've got to really like your specialist open side to pick Watson in international rugby.

Hidalgo-Clyne has been utterly abysmal since coming on. Passes over the head, along the ground, into players not remotely expecting a pass. It is quite a staggering display.

Not since Hardie (and Cotter) arrived, but we've seen Ryan Wilson and Kelly Brown in that role quite recently.

Spirited effort in the second half, after a dreadful first half. Both Fowles and SH-C both poor. Liked Bradbury and Watson.

I believe some players either dyed/shaved their hair for charity with regard to a member of their coaching staff.
Really was a hard watch. I thought Watson, Bradbury and Kinghorn played well - that's all that's positive really.

The Twitter feed has gone from 20-26 to 20-33 in the last 5 minutes.
Did we really just set fire to a LBP in the closing minutes?

Yeah it was a good game but the breakdown was a mess. 8 tries in it so worth watching.

Only if you want to see Weir's Gavin Hastings impression!

So what the hell happened at the end? We had a losing BP at 26-20 then lost 33-20?

Weir happened. So for full disclosure I don't rate him, but he attempted a cross field kick in his own half that went badly wrong. Leinster took advantage and scored.

From an Edinburgh perspective that was actually a good game. Sure we lost, but we played actual rugby in parts.
Scrum did well despite what the ref seemed to think
Backs actually got the ball, which was a huge improvement.
We lost, but we actually played like a rugby team for a bit, and that is an improvement from the last few games

Reading the reports it sounds like Leinster absolutely deserved the win, our defence was shocking st times, and the ref was truly awful?

Well I've watched the game now so will answer my own questions!
Leinster deserved the win but I think a losing BP would have been s fair result for us too. Take out that crazy 20 minutes in the first half and we played most of the rugby. Mistakes and lapses of concentration are absolutely killing us though - bad positioning in defence, lack of concentration at lineouts, winning penalties then not executing, bad passes when we really needed good ones etc etc.
I thought the ref wasn't too bad apart from a few strange calls - Nacewa could have drop kicked the ref in the face and still not got a yellow card though!
Trying to be positive our performances this season are getting better each game and there were some standout individual displays. Hamish Watson had one of his best ever games in an Edinburgh shirt - he was do determined and gave us a lot of go forward.
We've got a tough few games coming up now though.

Re: Edinburgh vs Leinster - Friday 16th September 2016
A real curates egg of a performance from Edinburgh and they definitely showed some glimpses of what might be.
The errors killed them though and that, surely, is down to lack of confidence, they are just not expecting to win games, especially against teams like Leinster. There is something to build on though and if they could just get a decent result against a big team, it might just do the trick.
Madness to throw away a bonus point like that though, it may well count at the end of the season.

The BBC Alba stuff on iPlayer won't work for me, unfortunately.

The ref giving a penalty against Leinster for a deliberate knock on when Ringrose charged down a kick was disturbing,he used the TMO and his assistant and between the three of them and video technology they couldn't see that the Edinburgh player kicked it.
Anyone can make a mistake but 3 people with the aid of a video?

That was a bewildering call too - it was a kick charge down!

Apart from that I was pretty happy with Leinster when we had the ball but our defense is too inconsistent. It can go from suffocating and high pressure to leaking like a sieve very quickly. We seem to be trying a more high pressure game but when it goes wrong it goes very wrong, hopefully it'll tighten up as we adjust to it.

Yeah,I'd love to know if he didn't realise it was a kick despite seeing it on the video or if he realised it was a kick and just decided that deliberatley charging down a kick was a penalty? There is no third option for how he made that call is there?

Re: Edinburgh vs Leinster - Friday 16th September 2016
Although there were signs that Edinburgh are improving, I actually thought that performance was indicative of all that is wrong with Edinburgh. Yes, the forwards gave them a good platform and secured a huge amount of possession in the second half, but there was absolutely no composure under pressure and the backs lacked any sort of discernible plan. That might seem harsh, but it was simple things going wrong that cost them the game.
On the plus side, I thought Watson was superb, Bradbury got through a power of work and Kinghorn showed why he should be in the team over Bryce.

Agree that the three of them had very decent games, though I would not say that Bryce played badly either. I thought that the Tongan No.8 was decent as well.

Agreed BigGee, Bryce had his best game for Edinburgh I would say, but Kinghorn looked a class above. I also think the big Tongan showed good power and pace, he will be handy throughout the season.

Yes - as the ref explained. It was not a charge down as he went for the ball before it was kicked and swung his arm around the player as you would to dislodge the ball. Odd call but when listening to what the ref said you could see his logic. Not arms up to block the ball ie ball to hand but swung his arm to knock the ball so hand to ball

I thought Toolis and Gilcrest looked lazy and ineffective all game. Not running to get back in support or to hit the rucks but ambling about. We need a decent pair of locks.

Surprised to see nobody questioning the last Leinster try.
Looked to me like the scorer lost control of the ball as he went for the line and then landed on top of it again.
Happened very quickly so wouldn't necessarily blame the ref for not spotting/referring, but if it was, it cost Edinburgh the LPB.

Since Stanger in 1990 we've all agreed not to question those at Murrayfield.
