Connacht vs Edinburgh, Friday 30th September 2016
First topic message reminder :
Game: Connacht vs Edinburgh
Venue: Galway
Date: Friday 30th September
Kick-off: 7:35pm
TV: Doubt it
Form: Both sides have been rubbish. Edinburgh are 9th in the league having lost all their games bar one, Connacht have lost 3 from 3.
Likely outcome: One for the purists, but Connacht to rediscover themselves with a healthy bonus point win.

I'm not overly fussed by it, and let's face it - how many people in Edinburghactually, even, care about Edinburgh pre-match press conferences....!
fixed that foryou
Seriously, the Craggy Islanders must have breathed a huge sigh of relief; a home match against the 4th worst team in the league, what better way to get back to winning ways?

Hodge's first selection and with a wheelbarrow of irony it's probably the best Edinburgh team so far this season. Delighted to see Tovey and Allen back - the team looks better already.
SHC and Tovey is clearly the immediate future for Edinburgh and so I was rather hoping that combination would start. I'd much rather have Kennedy than Fowles the Foetus mind you.

I think there's a reason why we have Press Conferences. If we want this league to grow to even minimum standards, the entrants should all play ball.
Here you go Phil, no rules broken

Because Edinburgh put forward two players – Damian Hoyland and Solomoni ‘Junior’ Rasolea – to speak to the press on Tuesday (the day before Solomons’ departure), the club is under no obligation in terms of the league rules to organise any more press access this week. That means the latest news we have from inside the camp is that the players are all 100 per cent behind Solomons!

It does seem like an overreaction to ban anyone from speaking to the press though. Hodge will have to field these questions eventually!

Connacht score after some incredibly soft midfield defence from Edinburgh.
It all came from a random scrum penalty - one of those 50/50 ones where the ref guesses

Lovely try from Adeolokun,a nice hand off and Muldoon gave a nice bump to his opposite number to just give him the sniff of a gap he needed.

Connacht make 40m from first phase ball - our wide defence has always been incredibly passive

And another scrum coming up.
Owens not happy with space between packs.
Whatever that means.

Connacht doing really well in that scrum, although its messy, but Owens clearly doesn't want to give penalties but instead manage it. Still, hopefully if this keeps up he'll use his whistle.

Lovely try- no disrespect to Edinburgh, but Connacht needed an opponent like this to get some confidence back.

Great hands by Connacht in the corner
I really don't know what our defensive system is meant to be but in open play it is bloody awful.
Junior Rasolea is a liability at 12!

Re: Connacht vs Edinburgh, Friday 30th September 2016
So Connacht are fully deserving of their HT lead and have ran Edinburgh ragged in open play.
Edinburgh have had bugger all ball, and the creaking scrum is a real concern.
We need to tighten up defence and get some ball!

Maire Treasa Ni Dhubhgaill leading the halftime inquisition on whether the pass was forward for the Edinburgh try.
I think she's right.
Even if it was backwards....

Marmion finally has to off with his limp from early in the match. Can Caoilin Blade deliver better speed?

Edinburgh not learning their lessons, regularly giving up possession again, directly leading to a Connacht score.
We really are an utterly abysmal rugby team.

When the Connacht backs get it together they are deadly. Signs of last season''s form beginning to reappear.
O'Halloran in the corner for their third try.
Carty just misses the conversion.

And Buckley gets pinged in the scrum. Edinburgh kick for lineout. They take. Dart right. Then left. And Connacht win a penalty through Heenan for Edinburgh holding on.

Conor had a real shuv on Sutherland in that scrum, no need for Buckley to angle in.

Keleher did well in regathering ball from kick ahead.
Edinburgh pushing hard here for a score.
Another penalty. To touch and Edinburgh win feint right and pass left and then knock on.

The guy on the Connacht touchline constantly shouting "EYES UP CONNACHT!!!!!" is starting to annoy me......quite considerably, like "GET IN THE HOLE!!!" levels of annoyance at the Ryder Cup.
