Good to see Merthyr's signings this week have properly taking the p out of the WRU.
"Development league". Hilarious.

Should be a good team, just a shame it's only a welsh premiership. We need proper A teams to be bridging the gap towards professionalism, rather than this semi-pro league. The WP is good for U18s and U20s academy players but beyond that there isn't much use for it.

It needs players like Pete the meat and Co., as they are the gnarly old pros who know the tricks of the trade. The kids learn more from competing alongside/against them, than they do playing amongst their own ages.

We still need A teams. Having Pete, etc in the team will help yeah but when you watch these semi-pro teams you can't honestly think these guys are ready to step-up to the pro game. Also do we know if Dillon Lewis, etc will be featuring for Ponty or Merthyr? I assume you were referring to them IE compete alongside/against them.

Dillon Lewis will spend all his working week training with professional players. He doesn't need 60 minutes, once a season (if at all) against Pete The Meat in order for his career to grow.
The number of genuine young pros playing in this league is dropping because the standard of the league is dropping.

So Dillon will be with Cardiff Blues more often that not then.
Yeah that just reemphasises the requirement for A teams.

Mikey, I was just on about in general players coming up against or alongside players who have been at a higher level.
A-Sides are a good idea. But they would water down the prem even more, and probably just end up with use saying there is too much of a step up from Prem to A, and that's why the A Sides can't compete when they have to draft players in

Maybe the league needs older pros. It doesn't need silly buying, unless they want more Jonny come lately fans who switch from ponty to them? Stan must know it won't turn pro. Even if they decide on swapping a region, it won't be 73 clubs Dragons now. A new pro region would clearly be from the North. So good on Stan being rich enough to blow money for nothing.

It will be if "WRU Gwent Region Limited" loses money.

It was, what it was. Why can't we just take it for that ?
Look, I noticed stone motif could not wait to correct me about teams from Gwent winning things, so how come he did not feel the need to come on here and comment about the standard of rugby in those games ?
I'm not sure why you're asking me to answer for 'stone motif' when, on another thread right now, you can't even answer questions for yourself.
But you're right to point out it is what it is: not a very good standard of rugby.
being a Cardiff supporter you would know all about that, I find it ironic that the supporters of the two biggest underachieving professional sides in Wales feel the need to come on here and point this out.
What was it you were telling me at the start of the season ? Cardiff Blues would do much better this time around. How did that work out for you ? Like I told you at the time, Cardiff Blues are a shambles of a professional club, run by a bunch of cowboys.
This has aged well.

So, Merthyr. The new force.
Now officially playing third rate rugby with the WRU soon to prevent its money being spent on Merthyr's players.
Again, this has aged well.
