Eduard Gutknecht in a coma still 12 days on from fight with George Groves

Germany's Eduard Gutknecht remains in a coma 12 days after his defeat by George Groves, the British fighter says.

Gutknecht, who needed surgery after the fight, is in a "stable condition", says the British Boxing Board of Control.

The 34-year-old fell ill in his changing room following his defeat on 18 November, and was taken to hospital.

Groves, who beat Gutknecht to retain his WBA International super-middleweight title, has set up a fund to help the boxer and his family.

"He is still in hospital in a coma after having surgery the night of our fight 12 days ago," wrote Groves on Twitter.

Groves scored a unanimous points win in the fight at Wembley's SSE Arena.

Hopefully he will pull through and live a decent quality of life unlike previous boxer's

Sad news but this happens and a higher chance when not pulled from a fight you're never winning.

Accumulation of beatings probably took its toll..He didn't have much defence..

But you're right...History shows that the "Hail Mary" seldom happens for big punchers taking a beating let alone for Blackwell and Gutknecht types.

It wasn't like he was a one punch KO artist either....

Here's hoping he pulls through been a terrible year for injuries very dangerous sport I'm sure everyone's rooting for him
