V2 Football Podcast - "The European mid-season review" (with Nadz)
http://v2football.com/blog/v2-football-podcast-the-european-mid-season-review
Anthony Kendrick is joined by Richard 'Hero' Hudson and our guest Real Madrid Fan Nadz. In this show we review the European football season to date, with the winter break starting (or about to start) in the European Leagues.
We begin the show by side which have stole the headlines in the Bundesliga - Red Bull Leipzig. They have been accused of being the MK Dons of the German League, due to their unpopularity with their ownership. Has Ancelotti met expectations at Bayern Munich since replacing Guardiola? And also, we discuss life after Klopp at Borussia Dortmund and the underachievers in Wolfsurg and Borussia Monchengladbach.
We then move across to Spain, where the big story is the incredible time Zinedine Zidane has had as manager with just two losses in 2016. Ronaldo has had what he has described as his best ever year with not only success with Real but winning the Euros with Portugal. Lionel Messi is the joint top goalscorer in La Liga with Luis Suarez, but we debate whether the side is more reliant than ever on their front three and Nadz gives his thoughts on who the best player at Barcelona is. We also discuss Sevilla, who have brought in former Chile manager Jorge Sampaoli, and Athletico Madrid who are in sixth place. Are they beginning to decline, and where will Diego Simeone end up?
In Serie A Juventus are top of the league and look like heavy favourites to win another title. We discuss whether Pogba is a loss to them and if Higuain is worth the large transfer fee. Roma and Napoli have also impressed this season andare second and third, with Dzeko and Mertens in the goals. The Milan clubs are also discussed, with Inter Milan having Roberto Mancini, Frank de Boer and Stefano Pioli all in charge over the past six months. And at AC Milan, they have shown signs of improvement being fifth in the table and a very good young goalkeeper in Donnarumma.
In Ligue 1, PSG have replaced Laurent Blanc with Unai Emery, who is under pressure. They have lost four games this season and sit third in the table but how much of this is down to the manager and how much down to the losses of David Luiz and Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Nice sit top of the table after a long unbeaten run, with Mario Balotelli the star of the show. Another striker who has had redemption is Falcao at Monaco, who sit second. There are a number of good young attacking players there including Anthony's FIFA Career Mode pick.
Finally, we mention the Dutch Eredivisie with Feyenoord sitting top. This league has a history of developing players and we discuss our picks, with Nadz springing a surprise with a 36 year old. And in Turkey, an Istanbul side sit top against all the odds but their manager is not interested in comparisons with Leicester, he would prefer to be compared with Southampton, and we reveal why.
