Hah!
Looks like McGinley has been eliminated; kinda surprised he hasn't scrounged an invite to the Senior PGA in the US.

It'd only made sense if it was Bernard Gallacher in that foursome..

Just looking at the (revamped) ET Website and the list of entrants.
Some names that I am familiar with, on the reserve list. The number indicates their "alternate" number.
Just shows how quickly some people fall away. e.g. Y E Yang - PGA winner 2009.
14 - Eddie Pepperell
20 - Y E Yang
21 - Tom Lewis
46 - Richard Green
56 - Simon Khan
59 - Seve Benson
81 - Oliver Wilson

Re: European Tour 2017 DP World Tour Championship
BMW PGA up to a SOF of 328 this year. It was below 300 last year.
So the subsidy is down to 14 (64 - 50). Which if we are going to continue to whinge about free points in WGC's seems like a pretty unacceptable situation.
I wonder if a fixed boost of maybe 5 to 10 points would be better?
How much would it cost Pelley to put his hand in his pocket and pay Jordan, Day, DJ and couple of others to turn up? If he wants to boost the ET then whey not pay for it?

Simon Khan! Was it 3 years ago when he lost in the play off to Manassero? Thought this would be enough to get in the field given he is a past winner and I think has another runner up finish.

You should see what happened to the 2009 PGA runner up.

Looking at Simon Khans status, he would have got in if he had finished in the top 127 of the Race to Dubai. If I'm reading the exemption list right, that would have got him into category 18, and then he would jump to category 9 (along with David Howell) for this tournament as a previous winner who finished high enough in the R2D list. I don't know what position and by how much he missed 127th spot on the R2D, as I can't seem to find last years results on the ET website.

Ross Fisher is an enigma to me, such a great ball striker but never seems to threaten. A trip to Bob Rotella would probably do him the world of good.

Have they done any changes at Wentworth lately, undoing some of the past brain farts? I recall a few years ago everybody hated it, especially after the changes Ernie Els (I think?) did.

Think he's close to scratch. He also had plenty of time to practise in the later part of his career due to various injuries.raycastleunited wrote:Watching a bit of the preview show and the pro-am. Shevchenko has a very tidy swing, doesn't look like an amateur

Lee Westwood was on the box yesterday saying that they have removed a lot of the bunkers, and replaced/reseeded/flattened many (if not all) greens. Some Tour or recent ex Tour pros were involved.

Re: European Tour 2017 DP World Tour Championship
I think it's been a major refit. Removed bunkers and lowered lips on many. Extraction system under greens so they will be firm whatever the weather - no problems this weekend anyway - meaning hit the fairways or go bounding through green if playing from the rough. We'll see!

The ET is celebrating their flagship event by launching a new and completely useless app and website. Well done. Thought you'd have learned from the PGATour. Never though I'd be following ET golf from the golfchannel website.

I agree the new website is sh*** but I do like one change they have made. On the leaderboard you can now list player names alphabetically based on first name so Alex Noren would appear before Shane Lowry; Fantasy League wise that's a big help.

Poulter was also glowing in his praise of the revisions. I believe Els was involved again, and McGinley too.
Major work on the greens. They have installed the sub-air system under the greens like at Augusta, completely relaid them with a different grass (bent not poa? Like Dustin I'm not into grass ), and recontoured them too.

Nice bit of symmetry from the Molinari brothers. Franny leading the way at -7, Edoardo missing the cut by some margin at +7.

Re: European Tour 2017 DP World Tour Championship
What's worse today?
Luke Donald's horrendous round?
The European Tour website?
As princedrac so rightly said earlier, "Until a year or so ago the European Tour website was a jewel among all golf tour websites. Why go backwards?"
Great graphics and presentation on the new site, but what's the point if the leaderboard doesn't function properly and the site is unnavigable? Who the hell thought that was a good idea?

At least Luke Donald shows glimps of the old version..
The new ET website / app is the classic thing of an inept management without digital visions, priorities or strong opinions who got entangled in an underperforming, overpaid PR agency. (Ironically it's probably Pelleys friends..) The result is a muddy product where form got the upper hand over functionality. I've seen too many examples of this in the past and the result is simply that visitors / users don't come back. A shame really.

Yet still another proof the rules of golf need a revamp.

Turns out that the European Tour are rumoured to have outsourced their new website development to the same outfit that BA used . . . . . . . . .

I'm hoping Grace doesn't win this week. Thought his relief in the bunker was disGRACEful, especially as he admitted that he had used this rule before to gain an advantage.

Wonderful shot into #18 from Noren.
EAGLE! Course record tied.
4putt,
Not Grace's fault if he's given a dodgy ruling. Didn't see it, but he reckoned Harrington had one similar on Friday. Which doesn't make it right, of course.

I know the respective roles of "Cup" Captains and Vice Captains are largely ridiculed on here, but good to see Bjorn has named Robbie Karlsson as his first VC for next year's Ryder Cup.
Have long thought Karlsson should be brought in to the RC fold; will David Howell be next?

Great win by Paratore. Let's hope he doesn't go the way of Manassero by listening to commentators (you know who you are Mark Roe) who bleat on about how he needs to add distance to his drives etc etc and then ruins his game. He seems like the real deal to me and the speed at which he plays is a breath of fresh air!

Filling up nicely:
Rory, Rahm, Rose, Rafa, Hideki, Hatton, Pieters, Poults, Fleetwood, Fitzpatrick, Westwood, Wood, etc, etc - at least a dozen more Top 100 golfers.
And, beneath all that icing, Lowry.
