Who's your favourite to win the 2017 Royal Rumble
First topic message reminder :
With 3 weeks to go until the show at the Alamo-dome there doesn't appear to be an obvious favourite to win the Rumble this year. Over previous years it's been more often then not revealed a few weeks before hand that someone is booked in to win yet a few weeks away nothing seems to be set in stone apart from Brock vs Goldberg.
So who's your favourite for the Rumble?
Any surprises Returns or Debuts?

- Latest shift in the odds.:
- Strowman 1/2
Samoa Joe 5/2
Goldberg 4/1
Baron Corbin 5/1
Lesnar 6/1
Undertaker 11/1
Worth noting Paddy Power put a thing on Twitter saying Ortons odds have been slashed and they have him as a 6/4 favourite, although I cant find it on their site. Skybet are still offering 14/1

Ladbrokes have Orton at 9/4 so if Sky have him at 14/1 get on it!

Corbin in to 5's? I've got £5 at 25/1 from a few weeks ago. Won't happen but now I'm excited!

Orton currently 2/1 with Skybet. Barry Corbin is still at 20's, not sure where the 5/1 came from.

I don't even think that Omega is that big of a star to debut in the Rumble. He has some momentum, but Styles was much bigger star last year (after all those years in TNA on national TV)

I completely agree. I have seen people elsewhere on the internet saying he's the biggest name that could turn up, which I think is total rubbish. AJ Styles was much better known, mainly because of his time in TNA. Working in Japan cemented his place as somebody WWE should pick up, but the main reason it was a big deal is because for ten years he was TNA's biggest name and so if you were even slightly active on the internet wrestling community, it was pretty difficult not to hear about him.
Kenny Omega has only really blown up in the last couple of months, at least from the perspective of someone who doesn't follow NJPW and even then his scope is pretty limited to the more hardcore fan base.
Kenny Omega is certainly a level below AJ Styles and I'd say he's a level below Samoa Joe, Shinsuke Nakamura, Finn Balor who all started in NXT, maybe even people like Austin Aries and Bobby Roode who got significant exposure in TNA at it's height (which had a similar number of viewers that Raw gets now.)

Sure, Full Sail NXT audience would go nuts, but 40 000-50 000+ Alamodome... I don't think so

Being a top 4 PPV the Royal Rumble is generally a smart crowd, I think he would get a very good reaction. Just look at the crowd last year, all it took was the screen to say Phenomenal and the crowd lost their minds.

As I said, I think AJ was just much bigger star. But who knows, I wish Omega all the best, he is very talented

Theres no denying AJ was the bigger star at the time, but I still think that enough of the Rumble crowd would know who he is, even more so that he's all the wrestling world has been talking about so far this year.
He'll likely end up in NXT if WWE do sign him eventually. If Joe, Roode and Nakamura went through NXT them Omega surely would aswell.

Omega won't join WWE if they want him in NXT same reason Ibushi didn't. As NXT is "developmental" not sure why any are in there tbh.
Yeah just put yoshihiko vs Kenny Omega in

They are in there because some lack certain skills, NJPW and its fanbase don't expect guys to sell as much, WWE do though there do seem to be plenty of exceptions. Theres also a different approach to production etc and they refine that
I thought Ibushi turned them down though because he could make more in NJPW

Cheers found it now, could only ever find Ibushis matches with it/him/her

Bit and bobs, great wrestler, but I don't think that's the point. Just because he's quality doesn't mean he'd get an amazing reaction. Samoa Joe, Nakamura and Finn Balor were all bigger names when they jumped ship and they didn't get Rumble debuts.
AJ Styles was a much, much bigger star than Omega ever has been. Styles only cemented his quality in Japan, it would have been a big deal even if he had come straight from TNA. When AJ Styles was there, they got the same amount of viewers as Raw gets now, that's a completely different level of American audience than NJPW reaches.
Kenny Omega has only blown up as a main event talent in the last year and has never had any significant exposure outside of NJPW, which does have limited reach because of the differing styles and the language barrier. It's getting better but he's not on that level yet.

It's not been developmental for a while. The Flordia house shows work as developmental, but it's just a more hardcore branch of WWE.

Ibushi was booked to win the CWC and would have went straight onto the main roster, no NXT needed.

Reports are British Strong Style and Wolfgang have been pulled from Progress & ICW and told to report to San Antonio
Hopefully they do something worth while as personally I'm concerned about how these retainer contracts are effecting these guys bookings

Except not only is Pete Dunne defending his title against Jimmy Havoc at Progress tomorrow, Trent Seven was only last night announced to be part of the Thunderbastard match at the same show.
Time will tell but I also don't think they'll be anywhere near the Rumble. Maybe Takeover at a push.

McGuinness on the Takeover pre-show - which to me may suggest any British wrestlers could be around there rather than the Rumble
