Jon Rahm burst from the pack with a best round of the day 65 to take victory in the Farmers Insurance Open. In the Fantasy League there wasn't as much excitement. Fantasy League veteran Kwinigolfer had five of his seven picks finish among the points and that meant a final day stroll for Kwini. Newcomer GPB matched Kwini's scoring picks but ultimately didn't have enough finishing in the top ten to put get close enough on his Fantasy League debut. Pedro and Thecleaver both had four picks score but none of Pedro's cracked the top ten while two of TC's did. LadyPutt, McLaren, and Raycastleunited all had three picks of varying quality score; Ray's were enough to pass Mac for a third place finish. SirBenson had two picks score while Be_the_Ball, Davie, EmmDee57, and I'm Never Wrong each had one scoring pick; BtB's pick was the best from this bunch.
The second best round of the day, a 66, from pick Richy Werenski was enough to back door him to a top 20 finish and he was the second biggest mover on the leaderboard. Werenski's was in the right direction but Hunter Mahan's round of 80 saw him drop almost 50 places from the top 20 to almost the bottom of the field.

The PGA Tour is set fair for the West coast for the time being and Jason Day returns as world number one along with a former world number one who's looking to get his reps up. Brandt Snedeker is the defending champion having won in a Monday finish that he took no part of. Former winners in the field include Jason Day, Scott Stallings, Tiger Woods, Ben Crane, Nick Watney, and Phil Mickelson. Mickelson has won on multiple occasions, the first in 1993, and he was the second player to defend after J.C. Snead first managed it in the 1970's. Tiger Woods was the third player to win back to back titles and in a sense he did it three times winning it 2005-2008.
Torrey Pines hosts the first two days over both it's South and lesser famed North Course before finishing the weekend on the South Course. With that being the case the points scoring opportunities are amended to take into account the usual scoring differential between the harder South and easier North Courses. Points for Top 5 Low Round scores will also be awarded in round two.
There are three Categories where you will need pick three players, plus reserve, from each one. There are bonus points available if you get all of your picks through in any category. Get all 9 picks through and you get an even bigger bonus. It's all way down at the bottom in the scoring section if you are interested.
This is a full field with cut event, cut points will be available; see above.

RULES
Picking players: Unless stated, pick a total of 9 players as follows:
Pick 3 players from each category, plus a reserve per category.
Event winner: The person with the most total points at the completion of each event will be declared the winner. In case of a tie, those involved will match-off each picks' final position score in descending order. i.e. Player A's best finish vs. Player B's best finish, Player A's 2nd best finish vs. Player B's 2nd best finish, etc... until one's pick finishes better than the other(s).
If there is a tie after all 9 picks have been matched against each other, those involved will be declared co-winners.
Player Withdrawals: If you pick a player who withdraws during a tournament, that player will be eligible for points for all completed rounds and making the cut if they withdraw after the cut. It must be apparent that the player completed their round for them to be eligible for either the low round, worse round, top 5, or top 10 low round scores. If a player withdraws before starting the tournament then your reserve will be put in that player's place. It is up to you to check that your players are in the starting field.
Holidays / Absences: If you will be absent for an upcoming event (e.g holidays) you may post the numbers on the most recent fantasy league event and the respective tournament(s) that apply or PM them to me. Example: Pick 3 players and 1 reserve from each category and the relative event number or name: Players 4, 5, and 8, reserve 9 from Category A, players 1, 3, and 7, reserve 5 from Category B, players 1, 2 and 17, reserve 12 from Category C, Event #12.
Failure to submit picks: If you do not submit picks you will be awarded zero points.
Deadlines: Picks must ideally be submitted before the first drive is struck on the first day of the tournament. However, late picks submitted after the tournament has begun must be for players who have yet to start (or are not showing a score on europeantour.com, PGATour.com, etc.), and these will not be valid unless they are seconded by any other league member.
All fantasy league disputes and discrepancies will be considered by the League Judge: LadyPutt. All decisions made by the League Judge are final.

Now you see him, now you don't.
Patrick Reed was a late entry, now he's a goner. Replaced in the field by someone called Rick Lamb.

What, no qualifying? Expansion to 48 teams? Not sure I approve of this inclusive approach. Have you been speaking to FIFA? Are the next tournaments scheduled for Qatar and Russia?

Ray, in a bid to make the Fantasy League attractive to a TV audience you now have to wear short shorts plus the obligatory long socks.

Barring a marine layer delay the first tee shots will be at 9am in San Diego, that's noon in Kwiniville, 5pm in Sunny England. Still time to make your picks

It's been a while since Bob took part in the Fantasy League. LadyPutt has some standing numbers so she is still in this thing. At this rate everyone's guaranteed a top 10 finish!

There probably won't be one every week either GPB. You have initials for those that share a last name with someone else and no weird nicknames for players so your entry is fine as is. Cheers

As is the norm with the Farmers Insurance Open the better scores were coming from the easier North Course. Just four scores from the top 18 players came from the the harder South Course. Justin Rose was one of those who took advantage of his easier start; he shot 65 to take a one shot lead from Adam Hadwin who's fine form produced the best round on the South Course. Five players shot 67 to round out the Top 5 Low Round scores. Both Rose and Hadwin were picks while Charles Howell III and Gary Woodland were the two picks amongst the other scoring five players.
Be_the_Ball, in his first Fantasy League outing is one of the early leaders, along with Kwinigolfer and Raycastleunited. Ray had three scoring picks but BtB and Kwini match his points haul courtesy of Rose and another scoring pick. GPB, LadyPutt, McLaren, Pedro, SirBenson, and TheCleaver all had one scoring pick but Mac's and TC's scoring pick was Rose.
Si Woo Kim withdrew after his disappointing round and that impacts I'm Never Wrong.

Scoring was higher in round two and almost half of the Fantasy League picks failed to make the cut. Cut bonuses were in short supply too as just four Category A picks made the cut. Fantasy Leaguers faired better in Category B as GPB, Kwinigolfer, and Raycastleunited all earned a bonus in that category. McLaren earned the only other cut bonus from Category C. Kwini has the most picks left with seven, GPB, Mac, and TheCleaver have six picks left. LadyPutt, Pedro, and Raycastleunited have five picks left while SirBenson has four picks left. Be_the_Ball, Davie, and EmmDee57 have three picks left and I'M Never Wrong has just two picks.
Three players shot 67 to tie for the low round score in round two. Jonathan Randolph and Kyle Reifers shot 67 on the easier North Course while Derek Fathauer managed that on the South Course. Rounds of 68 made the Top 5 Low Round scores and two picks, Tyrone van Aswegen and Tony Finau, managed that. Mac had both of them and INW had van Aswegen to earn additional points. INW's keeps him in the top 10 while Mac's were enough to take the lead from Kwini.
More points are on offer in round 3 as play moves to the South Course.

Three players shot 67 to tie for the low round of the day and one of them, Tony Finau, was a pick. Ten other picks were among the sixteen players to shoot 68 or 69 to make the Top 10 Low Round scores. Four Fantasy Leaguers, GPB, Kwinigolfer, Raycastleunited, and SirBenson each had three picks score points. Davie and Pedro each had two picks score while LadyPutt and McLaren each had one scoring pick. Mac's was Finau but it wasn't enough to stop Kwini from retaking the lead.
Patrick Rodgers and Pat Perez were the other two players to shoot 67. The MDF cut line fell at one over and EmmDee57's Martin Laird missed this mark after a 76.

I used to be ok at this. Had a few wins the season before last but now I'm on a complete Brendon Todd / Stephen Gallagher / Hunter Mahan type slump in form

Me too, but I seem to have picked up the dismal form from where I left off at the end of last seasonEmmDee57 wrote:I used to be ok at this. Had a few wins the season before last but now I'm on a complete Brendon Todd / Stephen Gallagher / Hunter Mahan type slump in form
