The US Open finally showed up on the final day as the wind began to blow and the course firmed up.  It was still possible to go low as Hideki Matsuyama posted twelve under in the clubhouse after a final round best of 66.  Brooks Koepka started well and then improved midway through the back nine.  He finished with a four shot lead and another US Open scoring record.

In the Fantasy League it was hardly a fair fight.  I'm Never Wrong had Koepka in his selections plus another four scoring picks  including two in the top ten.  EmmDee57 had three scoring picks including Koepka as he became best of the rest.  Eyetoldyouso, McLaren, and Sand all had two scoring picks but Mac had Koepka.  AlciG, Kouchi, Kwinigolfer, Owen1oozzy, Pedro, Raycastleunited, Super_Realist, TheCleaver, and WireTapper all had one scoring pick.  Koepka was the scoring pick for Alci, Owen, and Ray.

The race for Low Amateur swung back throughout the tournament but Scottie Scheffler ultimately prevailed over Cameron Champ.  A final round 73 allowed Scheffler to post one under and Champ could not improve as he faded to even par after a round of 76.

Final Round Low Round (30 points)
Hideki Matsuyama -6

The USGA are staging the U.S. Open at a relatively new course for the second time in three years.  Erin Hills in Wisconsin becomes just the sixth course open to public play to host after Pebble Beach, Pinehurst (Number 2), Bethpage (Black course), Torrey Pines (South), and Chambers Bay.

At eleven years old, and barely any tournament play bar the U.S. Amateur in 2011, this course will be a wildcard for the vast majority of the field.  By my half assed assessment just four players from the Amateur in 2011 are in the field; Harris English, Russell Henley, Brooks Koepka, and Jordan Spieth may have a course knowledge advantage.  The two finalists, Kelly Kraft (winner) and Patrick Cantlay are not playing the U.S. Open.  Measuring in at 7,741 yards Erin Hills will be the longest U.S. Open course on the scorecard but the USGA like to tweak the setup so it may not be the monster it appears to be.

As far as the world's best goes 59 of the top 60 are in attendance and almost half the field is in the top 100. Ryan Moore is missing through injury and Phil Mickelson is on a will he, won't he play watch for the time being.  Dustin Johnson won in 2016 breaking his major duck after 72nd hole heartbreak at the 2015 Open.    Ten other past winners, Angel Cabrera, Ernie Els, Jim Furyk, Lucas Glover, Martin Kaymer, Graeme McDowell, Rory McIlroy, Justin Rose, Jordan Spieth, and Webb Simpson are playing.  Ernie Els is the only multiple winner playing.

There are fourteen amateurs in the field, identified by (am) after their name, so we will have a separate pick for Low Amateur. The Low Amateur pick does not have to be one of your Cat C picks unless you so desire.  30 points will be on offer for correctly picking the Low Amateur after four rounds; if no amateurs make the cut then no points will be awarded.

There are three Categories where you will need pick three players, plus reserve, from each one.  There are bonus points available if you get all of your picks through in any category.  Get all 9 picks through and you get an even bigger bonus.  It's all way down at the bottom in the scoring section if you are interested.

This is a full field with cut event, cut points will be available; see above.

________________________________________________________________________

Everyone please notify others of changes in field before tournament starts and invalid or incomplete picks from participants.

RULES

Picking players: Unless stated, pick a total of 10 players as follows:

Pick 3 players from each category, plus a reserve per category.
Pick 1 amateur identified by (am) after their name.

Event winner: The person with the most total points at the completion of each event will be declared the winner. In case of a tie, those involved will match-off each picks' final position score in descending order. i.e. Player A's best finish vs. Player B's best finish, Player A's 2nd best finish vs. Player B's 2nd best finish, etc... until one's pick finishes better than the other(s).

If there is a tie after all 9 picks have been matched against each other, those involved will be declared co-winners.

Player Withdrawals: If you pick a player who withdraws during a tournament, that player will be eligible for points for all completed rounds and making the cut if they withdraw after the cut. It must be apparent that the player completed their round for them to be eligible for either the low round, worse round, top 5, or top 10 low round scores.  If a player withdraws before starting the tournament then your reserve will be put in that player's place. It is up to you to check that your players are in the starting field.

Holidays / Absences: If you will be absent for an upcoming event (e.g holidays) you may post the numbers on the most recent fantasy league event and the respective tournament(s) that apply or PM them to me.  Example: Pick 3 players and 1 reserve from each category and the relative event number or name: Players 4, 5, and 8, reserve 9 from Category A, players 1, 3, and 7, reserve 5 from Category B, players 1, 2 and 17, reserve 12 from Category C, Event #12.

Failure to submit picks: If you do not submit picks you will be awarded zero points.

Deadlines: Picks must ideally be submitted before the first drive is struck on the first day of the tournament.  However, late picks submitted after the tournament has begun must be for players who have yet to start (or are not showing a score on europeantour.com, PGATour.com, etc.), and these will not be valid unless they are seconded by any other league member.

All fantasy league disputes and discrepancies will be considered by the League Judge: LadyPutt. All decisions made by the League Judge are final.

Mac, you haven't picked an actual amateur. Did you mean to pick Stewart Hagestad instead as they're both ranked the same?

A bit late but I'm pretty sure these haven't started yet!

Cat A: Adam Scott, Sergio Garcia, Justin Rose (res Paul Casey)

A bit limited on my picks because half the field's started - serves me right for forgetting what day it is.  Rolling Eyes  One of the perils (or should that be delights?) of being retired - it always seems like a weekend! Yahoo

Scoring was unusually low for a US Open with a significant number of players under par after the first round and a first round scoring record was tied.  Fantasy League pick, Rickie Fowler set the tone for the day with a 65 that equalled a record set in 1980 that's held jointly by Jack Nicklaus and Tom Weiskopf.  His seven under par round was challenged but not equalled late in the day by another pick in Paul Casey and Xander Schauffele; they both had 66s.  Three other players, Brian Harman, Tommy Fleetwood, and Brooks Koepka, shot 67 to round out the Top 5 Low Rounds of the day.   Koepka was the final pick to score points.

Fowler was a pick of EmmDee57, Eyetoldyouso, I'm Never Wrong, kouchi, and WireTapper.  Koepka was another popular pick; AlciG, McLaren, Owen10ozzy, and Raycastleunited joined INW and MD in having Koepka. Super_Realist picked Casey.

In the race for Low Amateur, Scottie Scheffler, after a round of 69 leads the way from Cameron Champ who shot 70.  Former poster and popular pick Maverick McNealy leads the Fantasy League picks on 73.  That's inside the cut line for the moment.  Joaquin Niemann is a shot further back.  Christopher Crawford and Scott Gregory had rounds of 75.  Stewart Hagestad had a round of 77 while John Oda shot 78.

Over half of the picks, including the ones for Low Amateur, are outside the cut line as it stands.  Good golf will be needed to make sure they are around for the weekend.

Scoring seemed to be a little tougher in round two yet forty six players beat par and those under par are two fewer than after round one. The cut line fell at one over, a record equalling low, and it took its toll on the Fantasy League. No one came close to the full set and cut bonuses were like rocking horse droppings; just two Fantasy Leaguers earned a cut bonus. TheCleaver earned his bonus in Cat A where over half of that group missed the cut. McLaren earned his in Cat B.

Early leader, I'm Never Wrong, and near chaser, Eyetoldyouso, have the most picks left with six. I'm Never Wrong keeps his lead at the top after EmmDee57 had just three picks make the cut. Kwinigolfer, LadyPutt, McLaren, Pedro, Raycastleunited, TheCleaver, and WireTapper all have five picks left. AlciG, Be_the_Ball, Davie, GPB, Sand, SetupDetermines, and Super_Realist all have four picks left. Beninho, kouchi, Owen10ozzy, and SirBenson join EmmDee57 in having three picks left.

Two players were able to match Rickie Fowler's low tournament score. Hideki Matsuyama had a clean round of 65 while Chez Reavie had a bogey to go with his eight birdies to match Matsuyama's score. Reavie was picked by I'm Never Wrong and Pedro while Matsuyama was Kwini's pick.

The race for Low Amateur is run in the Fantasy League as none of the picks made the cut. Former poster and popular pick Maverick McNealy was the closest but that only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades. Two amateurs did make the cut and it was the ones who shot under par in round one. Cameron Champ moved ahead of Scottie Scheffler after a round of 69, he has a four shot lead after Scheffler shot 74.

Overnight rain made the course very playable and scoring continued to be good. Forty two players are under par and nine of them have beaten par on every round. Justin Thomas set a US Open scoring record after shooting a nine under 63. His score equalled Johnny Miller's final round at Oakmont but that was on a par 71. Rounds of 68 were needed to reach the Top 10 Low Round scores; ten other players managed to do that with five of those being picks. I'm Never Wrong is setting records as he had four scoring picks including Justin Thomas. He has a considerable lead over Eyetoldyouso who had two scoring picks. EmmDee57, Kwinigolfer, and McLaren also had two scoring picks. AlciG, Be_the_Ball, Beninho, kouchi, LadyPutt, Owen10ozzy, Pedro, Raycastleunited, Sand, and WireTapper all had one scoring pick.

It's a bunched leaderboard of non major winners and it looks like the first time winner streak could continue. Cameron Champ has a two shot lead over Scottie Scheffler in the race for Low Amateur and that could be quite a battle too.

I think I'm in with a great chance there with Koepka, Matsuyama and Fowler leading the charge Hug
