Can't agree with Fickou being there. Not even a 13 and a scrappy game overall. Surely there was other good centres playing this weekend?

Re: 6 nations Team of the week
I was pretty drunk by the time the England game came on, but I think Hamish Watson and Justin Tupiric were up there as top performers on the flank. Watson made 16 tackles despite only being on 50 minutes! I thought Tupiric was MOTM for Wales.
Paddy Jackson should be in at 10 too - Russell had a fairly average game and Jackson was one of Ireland's only positives.

Well JD was rubbish and JJ offered very little in attack.
Daly can only be in there for 1 long range kick, as he offered nothing outside of that, similar with Farrell.

Yeah Daly is a very good player but is new to the wing and didn't have a great game. A top winger would have finished his chance when he put a foot in touch. Gourdon and Picamoles were both top class.

Jon Davies who scored one try and set up another?
I didn't think he was so bad.

Re: 6 nations Team of the week
No way should Russell be in the team of the week!
If I had to pick a 10 I'd have gone with Sam Davies who although only played half a game, was probably the turning factor in Wales winning against the Azzuri!

I thought he was pretty awful for most of the game tbh. Yes Wales cut loose in the 2nd half but that shouldn't mask an all round poor performance. Similar story for England, we don't really deserve for anyone to be any team of the week.

To be fair, there's not an easier job in the 6N than second half vs Italy.tigertattie wrote:No way should Russell be in the team of the week!

Re: 6 nations Team of the week
I did not see enough of the Italy/Wales game to name my own team, so put up The Times team for people's outrage. Personally just 3 Scots n that team seems silly, but the 7 in the original quoted team seems too many.
Times Team:
Spedding (good but Hogg was ultimately more influential - and just as good)
Earls
Lamerat
Farrell
Daly
Jackson
Laidlaw
Picamoles
Gourdon
Wilson
Gray sr
Jones
Francis (Was his cameo for the bench really that good?)
Guirado
McGrath

That's true. He did well though in attack and better kicking game than most
Paddy Jackson was the lad I thought played the best at flyhalf

Re: 6 nations Team of the week
I thought Paddy Jackson got outplayed by Russell in the first half. Russell managed to get Scotland quite a few good territory gains.
Russell struggled in the 2nd half but did enough damage in the 1st.
Russell just about edged the battle of 10s IMO.

I thought Russell was, along with the front row, amongst the few Scots who struggled. I would even say that Scotlands first half performance were despite his form. He has been excellent for Glasgow in most games this season (except against Munster perhaps) but this weekend was some way below that. I felt Jackson was the better player on Saturday.

with the caveat that I didn't watch the Italy-Wales game so won't include any of those. A few thoughts. Gone with Henshaw out of position at OC, but he can play there, and none of the OCs on show were particularly impressive IMO. Gourdon goes to blindside, but the French play left-right, and Gourdon is a N8 anyway. This allows me to accomodate Watson, who was excellent. Guirado makes hooker sort of by default, did the basics well but none of the hookers stood out for me: Ford was OK, Hartley looked undercooked, and Best's throwing was wonky.

Russell's been kicking pretty well for Glasgow this season, around the 80% mark. He'd do fine.

Probably. I do feel however that he did not play very well at all on Saturday, while (with the usual caveats regarding speed of service) Laidlaw was better than Serin.

I didn't think it was his best game, but I genuinely think the threat he poses running with the ball, combined with his speed of pass off either hand, helps create so much space for those around him, and played a large role in Scotland's threat ball in hand, especially for Hogg's second try. A case of not doing anything spectacular, but making other players look better IMO. Might be biased though... Jackson I thought had a very good second half, but was anonymous in the first half, and with the amount of ball Ireland had in good positions thought he could have imposed himself more on the game, albeit I know Ireland play a tighter gameplan. Lopez was solid without being spectacular, missed a simple penalty too. Ford was pretty poor.
Laidlaw was his usual self. Some excellent game management, kicked his goals beautifully, but as you say, at times a bit ponderous. Sometimes a good thing, but there were a couple of occasions where firing the ball out quicker would have been a clear benefit. I was impressed by Serin, I think he could become a fine player, and thought Noves pulling him off was a poor decision.

Re: 6 nations Team of the week
You can only play what's in front of you, but I would still say Wales's game against Italy wasn't much more than a training run. We'll have a much better sense of how good they are next week.
I'd start with the Scotland side from 1-15 and then add in a few Frenchmen. I don't think anyone in an England or Ireland shirt did enough to justify inclusion.

Not even the Irish props who were marmalising the young Scots?

I thought their lifting was ok. The messed up ones were either the throw or faulty hands.
