2017 MotoGP season
So the new season kicked off in grand style in Qatar. New Yamaha sensation Maverick Vinales was a class apart on his factory Yamaha debut. The Spanish youngster lived up to his billing as second favourite for the title with both pole position and the race win. The boy looks a phenomenal talent. Andrea Dovizioso bagged second and Valentino Rossi claimed third. It was a very close race as the top 3 where separated by less than 2secs. Yamaha's 2017 bike is comfortably the fastest bike at present. Repsol duo Marquez and Pedrosa came home 4th and 5th respectively but they weren't in podium contention. Former 3 time champion Jorge Lorenzo had a miserable weekend. Struggling to get to grips with the beastly Ducati, he must be regretting jumping ship from Yamaha...

Re: 2017 MotoGP season
Caught this last night, some cracking racing. Shame Zarco fell off while leading, I expect his softs rears would of gone off though. Does indeed look like the Yamaha is top dog atm, you'd expect Vinales to always be one step ahead of Rossi throughout the season.

Re: 2017 MotoGP season
I wouldn't right of the Doctor just yet. It's commonly known in the MotoGP paddock that Rossi's not all that interested in qualifying but come race day the old magic rears its head more often that not. Even Vinales admitted he was baffled by Rossi's recovery from 10th to 3rd

RED BULL GRAND PRIX OF THE AMERICAS
MotoGP Clasificación de Carrera 2017
Austin, Sunday, April 23, 2017
Might be time to rename the Circuits of the Americans as the Marc Marquez playground. Yet another sensational display by the Spaniard as he roared to a fifth straight win in Texas. He always landed an awesome pole position. No one else has ever stood on the top step in Texas. Rossi second and Pedrosa third. Maverick Vinales dnf handing Rossi the championship lead.

Good to see Dani Pedrosa on the top spot of the podium and it looks like Lorenzo is getting to grips with the Ducati. It's strange how different circuits suit the various makes of bike. It's going to be an interesting season with newcomer Zarco being so competitive.

Nothing really overly special about Lorenzo's podium in Jerez. The excessive heat killed Yamaha's front tyres.
When Pedrosa's on it, he's unbeatable.

Maverick Vinales won the French GP at Le Mans after Valentino Rossi made multiple errors on the final lap. First Rossi ran wide allowing Vinales to take the lead. Then as Rossi attempted to regain the lead he crashed out. Vinales victory also gained the young Spaniard the championship lead. Zarco claimed his maiden premier class podium with second. The Frenchman has been mighty impressive. Dani Pedrosa was third. Mugello in two weeks time and Rossi desperately needs a win

Devastating news about the passing of Nicky Hayden. In a paddock full of egos, he was the laid back kid from Kentucky who was the most likeable rider in the paddock. R.I.P.
It is being reported as a cycling "accident" - he was on a bicycle and he was hit by a car and he died as a result of that.
A few weeks I almost missed a story because it wasn't given much prominence. Chris Froome while training on his bicycle was attacked by a motorist in France, where the motorist drove onto the pavement to get him. Fortunately for Chris Froome he was okay but the whole incident seems to have been downplayed.

Re: 2017 MotoGP season
Andrea Dovizioso achieved the keystone moment of his career as he powered to victory at the Italian GP at Mugello.
Notable achievements:
Dovizioso's third win in MotoGP and first in the dry.
First win for Ducati since 2009 at the Italian GP(Stoner was the winner)
Dovizioso is the first Italian since Rossi(five consecutive wins 2004-08), to win the Italian GP.
First time since 1974 that an Italian rider on an Italian bike has won the Italian GP.
Championship leader Maverick Vinales was second and satellite Ducati rider Danilo Petrucci was third.
Valentino Rossi was fourth, Marc Marquez was sixth and Jorge Lorenzo was eighth. Dani Pedrosa crashed into Cal Crutchlow and thus surrendered second in the championship.
Vinales in top on 105pts, Dovi is now second on 89pts. Rossi third on 85pts.
After many years of being the nearly man, 2017 might be the year when it all falls into place for Dovizioso. He's got Lorenzo easily covered. Dovi's riding style is perfect for this Ducati.

Re: 2017 MotoGP season
No comment from Jermaine on the Dutch Moto GP so I'll just say that it was a strange race, partly due to the bit of rain part way through the race which left riders wondering whether to come in and change to wet weather tyres or stick with what they'd got. Zarco was one that switched and it backfired as the rain didn't last and he couldn't get back with the leaders.Rossi got in the lead at just the right time and won comfortably from Petrucci who seems to have got the hang of the Ducati better than Lorenzo who is still struggling. Dovi is leading the championship now as Vinales slid off and Marquez who finished on the podium is second. Who is going to finish champion at the end of the season is a guess as no one has a clear lead so I'm not going to try and pick a winner at this stage.

Wow, the Austrian GP was the most exciting of the year up to now with Dovi and Marquez fighting it out for the last few laps with the Ducati just winning by a bike length and Pedrosa finishing in a lonely third.Lorenzo set off at a good pace to build a good lead of over a second but his softer tyres soon caused him to slow down and finish fourth with Zarco a creditable fifth.Still ten races to go with Marquez on top with 24 pts lead on Dovi.

Re: 2017 MotoGP season
I really want Dovi to win the championship. He's far too often in his career been the bridesmaid. When Rossi left Honda, soon after they signed Dovi on their third bike but he never received the same support the other factory Honda riders received. Yamaha screwed him over as well. Promising Dovi a factory seat but eventually ditching him. Now at Ducati he's proving the true talent he has. He is absolutely pounding Lorenzo.

[/ Absolutely agree I'm glad Dovi is doing well in the title chase, four wins now after his superb effort at Silverstone. I hope he manages to keep winning. Lorenzo hasn't quite got to handle the Ducati yet but then neither did Rossi. It just goes to show how good Stoner was.

Dovi's consistency has all ways been there just never got the opportunities to showcase his talent. From being in shadows of Rossi and the Simoncelli, Dovi's showing his elite pedigree

Andrea Dovizioso won an epic duel at Motegi to keep his championship hopes alive. The battle with Marquez was sensational and to get the win at Honda's home circuit made it that much sweeter. Marquez leads Dovi by 11pts with three rounds remaining.
Dovi has to be up there as one of the greatest riders in the rain. Masterful.

Totally agree Nathaniel. I thought he had left it too late to make his move on Marquez but he took his chance and it paid off. Roll on Phillip Island. And hats off to Zarco and Petrucci for their efforts, they both deserve a factory ride next season.

A great race at Phillip Island with at least five of them battling for podium spots. Unfortunately Dovi wasn't one of them and it looks more than likely that Marquez is once again going to be crowned king. Top marks for him though, he could have taken it easy when he knew his main rival was well behind but he had to battle with Rossi and take top spot with Vinales just pipping Zarco over the line and Crutchlow a well deserved fifth.

Re: 2017 MotoGP season
Dovi and Ducati's race finally ran out of steam at Philip Island. Unfortunately for the Italians the Repsol Honda(in Marc Marquez's hands) is a more versatile bike. Better for the duration of the season. Got to tip the hat to Marquez though 24 years old and soon to be 6 time world champion and 4 in the premier class. Boy's got skills.

Wet weather King Andrea Dovizioso kept his faint world championship hopes alive with a brilliant victory in Sepang. Reigning champion and series leader Marc Marquez came home 4th, so heads to Valencia with a 21pt advantage. Dovizioso must win and needs Marquez to DNF.

Brilliant victory is a stretch there. Lorenzo made a "mistake" that let him through a few days saying he'd help Dovi if came to it.

A bit of useless information for you, the first four finishers at the Malaysian GP all had Z in their name. Not a lot of people knew that. Well barring a major mishap in the last GP Marquez, will be crowned King again.Well deserved as well, for someone so young to show the restraint and not fight for the lead. Good luck to him and I would like Zarco and Petrucci to be offered works rides next season.

I think if Lorenzo was going to let Dovi through he would have just slowed a touch not almost brought Dovi off and fallen himself. If that was deliberate Lorenzo is a braver rider than we thought.

Re: 2017 MotoGP season
Marc Marquez won his 4 MotoGP championship in 5 years after finishing third in Valencia. At the of 24, Marquez is unsurprisingly the youngest man to have 4 MotoGP/premier class championships.
Jorge Lorenzo once again displayed his scumbag side when he refused to let Dovi passed when ordered to do so by Ducati. Dovi's dream ended when he subsequently crashed out. Soon followed by the spineless Lorenzo. I really hate the cowardly actions of someone like Lorenzo. I fail to see how this moron has any fans.

I can't see how you can call Lorenzo a coward, it takes a lot of guts to race bike at those speeds. Motor cycle racing isn't a team sport, it's every man for himself once the flag goes down. I would have liked Dovi to win the title but he didn't do enough, when Lorenzo came off with five laps to go Dovi only had to catch the leaders but he came off too.

Re: 2017 MotoGP season
The new season started weekend just gone and it was fantastic. Satellite Yamaha star Johan Zarco registered the fastest time ever in Losail during qualifying. But in the race it was 2017 revisited as Ducati's Andrea Dovizioso saw off the challenge of 4 time world champion Marc Marquez to win in Qatar for the first time. Ducati looking really strong. Valentino Rossi, fresh off signing another 2 year deal, completed the podium. But it looks like Marquez vs Dovizioso part 2 and it should be equally thrilling
