Ricky Burns - Spoilers
Anybody watching? Has the 140lbs division become that bad? It's basically Crawford. That's it. Everyone's has moved to 147 and we have Burns as world champ "unifying" against some African gentlemen.....fair play he sparked the Russian....but still...what a poor poor unification this will be

Should be a decent fight irrespective of the titles being on the line.

Purely on work rate so far, not landing a lot but Burns is barely throwing.

Strange that this is a unification fight. What an empty division.
Had a indongo by ko pre fight, looks like it could come in

Think this could be Ricky's last fight, just looks like he hasn't got it in him any more and nowhere really to go after this.

He's trying to make a go of it, but he hasn't got it. Indongo looks big and fast. Wild and awkward.

Looks a nightmare to fight against. Bull rushing forward isn't the answer. Burns hasn't the skill, at least at this stage of his career.

End of his career here I feel. Had a great one but he needs to retire after this. That was a bruising round.

Yes he was at a crossroads a couple years back and made another go of it. Burns had a lot of chances, but he's solid guy and made a lot of his own abilities. Has had a very good career, but his time is up.

I agree with that assessment. He's always gave it everything and made the most of his abilities. Burns has a great attitude, but he's not at that level. Hope he retires now. Nothing to prove and he isn't going to beat the top guys.

Skill wise I do not think there is much to chose between them, however Indongo is much much quicker and looks easily two weights above Burns.

Can't believe Indongo is 34... and making weight comfortably at 140 when he's 5ft11ish as well.

120-108
Very one sided, despite being a unified champion now I doubt Indongo will trouble the top men like Crawford or Postol, would not be surprised to see Matthysse target him on his return.

Don't be surprised to see him fight Davies in a passing of the torch fight.

Re: Ricky Burns - Spoilers
He's got debts, he'll come again.
Seemed to struggle with the reach. Another counter puncher who struggled to know how to push, when behind. Surely he must have sparred with men with long reach to prepare?
Both looked quite fresh, after 12rds. Which speaks for itself.
Byrne's is very likeable but he had as many duff performances as good.

Unlikely considering they're training partners. Far more likely we'll see him pass his torch to Josh Taylor.

Re: Ricky Burns - Spoilers
Credit to Burns for lasting 12 rounds, every punch looked like it hurt, unlike some fighters didn't make any excuses either acknowledging the better fighter. He has come back from previous defeats I cannot see why he should quit after last night, needs to drop down a level but there are good matches for him.
Whilst not suggesting Indongo is going to a necessarily dominate the division he looks to be a tough fight for anyone, long, quick, good feet, can punch, strong and smart enough to hold on the inside. Hearn talking about Crolla moving up to take the fight I can only see that ending with him being stopped possibly pretty painfully.
Good luck to Robbie Barrett a close but imo deserved winner over Scott Cardle who for a fighter with apparently a great skill set gets caught way too often.

Re: Ricky Burns - Spoilers
If Burns looks at Kevin Mitchell types he can appreciate what a great career he has had.
Overachiever for sure and a Scottish Jack in the box Rocky story.
You're a star in Scotland.. There is coaching.....After dinner engagements even opening supermarkets.
Time to enjoy your retirement and look back with pride on a succesful career.
Don't go on too long...Plenty of earning potential outside the ropes.

I actually think Crolla v Burns would be a good fight. Not sure where Burns goes now? He wasn't a puncher at the lower weights so has no power at all now so it's going to be really tough for him to stay on the world scene. For Crolla he came out of two losses for world title fights (the second pretty one sided) jumping straight in for a world title at the weight above I don't think is advisable. So fighting Burns would be a good place to start in my opinion. Both big names in the U.K. So hopefully they'd both get a decent cheque for it. I'd prefer to see Burns retire now though.
Indongo looked decent and very very awkward, chuck in that he's a southpaw too I think he'd be a handful for anyone. He looks beatable but I doubt anyone woukd look great doing so due to his style. Because of that Crolla should stay well away.

Re: Ricky Burns - Spoilers
Crolla v Burns wouldn't really make sense....A lot of money in purse required for that and both were well beaten losers and it's a 50/50 tough comeback fight.
I'd use Tommy Coyle...He's exciting and he deserves a payday..
Very winnable and a decent SNF..

I see what you mean but I was thinking just because Crolla is stepping up. Also seems Burns needs the money so could be a good option and could probably be a headline fight due to the following they have.

..I see your point Melv.
Crolla has had two tough fights...The last was a real bruising slog...
Coyle for me is a name. ..Is exciting and a good payday..He will also tell Crolla if he still has it....

Re: Ricky Burns - Spoilers
Burns has the Taylor fight - that's going to draw in Scotland next year - and light welter is probably the most exciting division in Britain with those two and Davies, Nurse, Catterall, Davies Jr. The Crolla fight would be a good fight, should Crolla move up (he may not bother now Burns has lost his belt).
He'll keep fighting. Depends what he wants to do but I'd say the bigger paydays were domestically now (no-one would pay to see him fight Crawford or Indongo). Unless Eddie can throw some coin at someone like Granados.

Re: Ricky Burns - Spoilers
Burns is a bum. His one decent win was against the overrated Rocky Martinez. He stepped up against Crawford, Zlaticacin and Indongo got exposed. Burns relies on hometown advantage and facing stiffs like the mug he beat to win the WBA 140lbs belt. Was hoping Indongo brutally KO'd Burns but now the bum will be back for another run at a paper title

Re: Ricky Burns - Spoilers
Burns is a dedicated professional, a class act who squeezed every ounce of talent he had out of himself to win various ABC belts. Yes, he wasn't ever "the man" at any of the weights he fought at, but neither were any of the other British "champs" of recent years (save Tyson Fury).
How many of us would have been able to rebound from bankruptcy in our fields (considering the crushing manner that was administered upon him?).
The Martinez win was superb and his wins over Moses and Mitchell were world class performances.
If Burns is a bum, I'd love to see what a hero looks like.

Re: Ricky Burns - Spoilers
Completely agree Haz. A very solid professional and a good world level operator. Just because he wasn't ever the best in his division doesn't make him a Bum. By that logic Froch was a bum too then.
He wasn't brutally KOd by Indongo because he isn't a bum, Jermaine you helped prove our point by saying that .

Re: Ricky Burns - Spoilers
Everyone is a bum according to Jermaine;
Martinez, Katsidis, Mitchell, Moses and Gonzalez is not the win column of a bum, never truly world class but he's had a career 99% of boxers dream about. The gift he got against Beltran gets evened out by the disgraceful refereeing and judging in the Figueroa fight. Di Rocco and Relikh on top of that are solid European level boxers, not world title fight worthy but still a pair of decent wins.
