Josh Taylor Vs Ohara Davies
Hi all, awfully quiet on here lately...
So, this weekend brings us Taylor Vs Davies, two unbeaten prospects in Taylor 9-0 and Davies 15-0. A lot is made about unbeaten prospects but somebodies 0 has got to go here! Josh Taylor looks a real class act, silky smooth skills, well managed by Barry McGuigan who will surely be passing on vital knowledge and it's interesting to see just how highly Barry rates Taylor. Davies is a more polarising character, personally find him hard to listen to (my brother has a stammer so no harshness here). Davies has good power, good skills and i'm really impressed with him for chasing relatively decent fights (in the modern age). Would have been quite easy fighting tomato cans on sky building up a padded record then fighting for an alphabet strap so respect where respects do.
So how does the V6 faithful think this one is going to go? Home crowd, rowdy support will surely favour Taylor, and i'm genuinely on the fence with this fight. I'm not going to be a wuss though and nail my colours to the flag and i'm gonna go with Davies 8-12 KO. No idea why what so ever, but i can visualize the interview after.
Thoughts?

Yup this place died a long time ago, just a few of us haven't quite accepted it.
Potentially a cracking little fight this, and great to see a couple of prospects prepared to risk their '0'. Who'll win? Genuinely haven't a clue (no change there then!)

Shock, great start to a thread.
I logged on to see what people were saying about this fight.
It has the making of a cracker and who ever losses should not be disheartened. They're both genuine prospects.
I have a feeling Davis will do it. Less skillful but nl more dog in him, for me. But wouldn't be surprised if Taylor won.
It's sad, with the domestic scene so vibrant at the mo, that there isn't more threads on what's happening in the UK.
Glad somebody started one on the world series, that looks brilliant.

Massive round for Taylor.
Very mature of Davis to take the knee.
Can only see one winner from here.i was wrong. Taylor has been the boss

Looks only one winner at the moment, different class. Not over yet of course.

Davies looks like punching himself out, but came back towards the end of that round. I lost count of the amount of low blows Taylor through in that round... puts Andre Ward to shame

Yes, Davis better in that round but the quality is all Taylor.
Davis will flag soon. He's all work and no intelligence

Davis looked like he was finished and Taylor let him take pot shots.
Still can't see past Taylor winning this.

Yes, Davies made to look a bit ordinary.
He's still got talent but needs to go back to the drawing board.
Great win by Taylor.

Yes, back to the drawing board in a big way. He will not go far telegraphing his shots like that may as well have told Taylor what was coming.
Reminded me a bit of Nigel Benn v Michael Watson.

Good win for Taylor he's a classy fighter but something about his in ring demeanour makes him come across as a right w*nker.
I'm guessing Davies broke his nose.
Good action while it lasted, even if Channel 5 commentary team make sky look good.

Re: Josh Taylor Vs Ohara Davies
Was Josh Taylor shadow boxing in there that commentary was absolutely disgusting literally didn't mention Davies unless he was getting punched
I thought that fight was far more competitive than they made it sound
Taylor was too well schooled landed the cleaner and sharper punches and he could hurt Davies more than the other way round
Davies was far too wild every time he threw he was off balance and wide open

Very good win for Taylor, Davies was exposed tonight, once the Crawford-Indogo fight is sorted, I see Crawford winning then vacating. Taylor will then pick up a strap

Yeh BF, Alex arthur was too far up Taylor's arse. It was good fight and davies was exposed as a crude slugger but he was still in the fight, albeit well behind.

Josh Taylor looks good though
How far he can go? I'm not entirely sure

I did not feel the commentary was bad and let's not forget a decent match on regular TV. Not sure if it correct but there is talk of ITV asking for £16.95 for Eubank/Abraham.

There was a near riot at the BT show when Sam Mcness unexpectedly lost his unbeaten record. Loads of Mcness fans who are also West Ham fans had to be stopped by security and there was swearing from security over the tannoy when telling the fans to calm down and stop fighting

Not sure how eubank warrants 16.95 on ppv
Who else is on the card?

Re: Josh Taylor Vs Ohara Davies
I didn't think the commentary was any worse than others. Just glad to have a competitive fight on terrestrial TV.
Davies needs to do some work. Just been exposed, the difference between bullying domestic fighters and moving into the big leagues, and Taylor looks like he's the skills to move to the big leagues.

That eubank card isn't half bad at all
Competitive fights right down the undercard at least on paper anyway

Re: Josh Taylor Vs Ohara Davies
Sad news, the sport is on a high at the moment (I think the PPV's will sooner rather than later kill the golden goose), doesn't need anything like this.
Back to tonight I suspect Davies faces a long re-building job after that, mentally and technically.

That is a fair point, currently planned;
Chris Eubank Jr v Arthur Abraham
Lee Selby v Jonathan Victor Barros
Robbie Davies Jnr v Michal Syrowatka
Kid Galahad v Jose Cayetano
Martin Joseph Ward v Anthony Cacace
There have been worse that this I would still suggest with Sky, BT/Boxnation & ITV PPV's there will be a tipping point.

Re: Josh Taylor Vs Ohara Davies
My beef with the commentary is having a co-commentator with a horse in the race. Made Richie woodhall look objective.
Shows how bad a stranglehold ppv has on boxing that we're ecstatic a domestic tussle between a couple of prospects was free to air
Whichever, good fight, Taylor looks a prospect.

Re: Josh Taylor Vs Ohara Davies
Hi all, thanks for some positive replies!
Watched the fight Saturday and honestly i have to admit i was so far off a correct prediction!
Davies looked a little crude and Taylor looks as impressive as i've seen him. Took some good shots but showed a fantastic range of shot making and tactical nous.
Taylor now 10-0 and ranked top 15 in World rankings could realistically be competing for world honours within the next 5 fights? Will sell out arenas in Scotland from now on i imagine. Big market for a new star there.
For Davies, slightly cringing at his "I've got 6 figures in the bank" comment. Take out management, training, gym fees for the next year and i imagine that'd go down pretty sharpish.
Has some good tools for a tool. Needs to get back, refocus and progress. Losing to Groves never did Degale any REAL damage so can always come again!
Cheers all, happy Monday.

OD can come again but he needs to improve, I know Tony Sims is linked with Eddie Hearn but on a side note I don't rate him as a trainer

Taylor was superb wasn't he? Davies looked terrible technically - he needs to go back to the drawing board.
Thinking of buying Eubank card for Cacace vs Ward alone. Cracking trade fight.

Cacace is super talented and believes he'll chin Ward (who's looked vulnerable again the likes of Ronnie Clarke and Maxi Hughes). This is his big chance after being in the wilderness and he's in great shape after switching his trainer from Brian Magee to Ray Ginley.
Ward has more twelve rounders under his belt and so will be more comfortable setting a pace.
Can't wait for it.
