I've been wanting Root to play more T20 for ages. There's a fantastic T20 player in there. From his best performances there thus far I'd say he's got more talent in the shortest form than Williamson or Smith for instance but Root just hasn't played it that much.Voice of the Beehive wrote:Joe Root set to play for Yorkshire in the Blast quarter final.

Up to him I guess whether he wants to have a fun outing in the Blast ; but I won't be surprised if he elects to chill out and watch this one...

Now confirmed - excellent call, Olly. I had heard his name mentioned more than once recently but thought we were still trying to get Abbott.

Maybe not great news for Moriarty either. With McKerr almost certainly replaced by Roach, can a spot for Moriarty still be found?

good question that beehive, I thought TC would be playing for the seconds today so there must be a chance he will be in the squad for Essex tomorrow wherever he can bowl is another thing.Voice of the Beehive wrote:Are Surrey going to have to abandon the rotation policy for the fast bowlers due to lack of options apart from Roach coming in ? or is TC going to be able to bowl a limited amount of overs ?

Re: Surrey CCC 2019 Discussion Thread
The eleven are all on the staff but most are second teamers.
Team in my guessed batting order:
Patel
Steel
Geddes
Reifer
Blake (wkt)
McKerr
Kimber
Barnwell
Dunn
Virdi
Yousef Majid.
Bowler heavy, batter light.
Steel to probably skipper. No Burns although he's likely to play against Leics at Guildford on Tuesday. Believe Lawes is unwell. Don't know what is going on with Moriarty - the short term contract given to left arm spinner Yousef Majid from the Surrey Academy suggests Moriarty may not be involved in the RL50.

Thanks, Beehive. As per my earlier post, didn't know that. So Moriarty hardly plays for Surrey in the Blast but gets a Hundred contract - hmmm.

Whoever wins - and it looks like it'll be Bucks - is going to do it in well under 50 overs. So let McKerr, Dunn and Majid (who's having a decent debut) bowl out now.

Sadly your man Dunn has gone off the field after bowling his 2nd ball of his 6th overguildfordbat wrote:I don't know why Geddes is persisting with Steel.

Topley's dad has said that Topley has "basically a white ball Surrey contract with some red ball incentive."

Blimey! Where will he bat in this current line up? Lathom is here for another 4 matches....unless of course, we've signed him for his bowling!

After yesterday was largely washed out, Surrey declared on 331/8 with Patel top scoring on 101 whilst Steel and Blake bagged fifties. Middlesex finished the day on 65/2.

Sorry, JimBob. He's a new name to me. Good start and first wicket for sure though.

Re: Surrey CCC 2019 Discussion Thread
One hell of an artefact there that just popped up in my recommended watches on YouTube.
5 over match between Surrey and Essex in 2005 due to rain. Tim Murtagh still at Surrey. Irani whacking it. Early T20 bowling pioneer Nyan Doshi getting a hammering. Andre Adams promoted above ten Doeschate as a pinch hitter. Brown and Benning opening the batting. Azhar against Danish Kaneria looking like he's basically bowling seam by the end of the over. Adams and Bopara both bowling off a few paces. Azhar runout and it not even being looked at.
Such an odd period in the game to look back on. Some saw T20 and where it could go clicked quickly. Many others just having a laugh.

Particularly feel sorry for Reifer. He was too often pulled out of Saturday league cricket to act as a 12th man where he always seemed to give his best fielding around the Oval boundary. Given very little opportunity by Surrey. He let no one down the only time he was in a first class fixture. Scored 69 in his one innings at Guildford last year against Sri Lanka Development XI. If he doesn't get another club (Northants?), that's an impressive career average. Good luck to him and Kimber whatever the future holds.
