Three tremendous fights coming up

Usych vs Gassiev (July 21)
Stevenson vs Gvozdyk (purse bid July 2)
Smith vs Munguía (July 21)

You’ve got Pacquiao vs Matthysse too but Lucas looked poor in his last fight. Manny would have noticed like we all did Lucas looked slow in cutting off the ring. Would have been one to salivate over a few years back this one but still a good fight. Lucas only needs one shot of course but has he got the foot speed

If you’re looking forward to Smith vs Munguía, BT sports are expected to pick up the clash. So that means Boxnation won’t be showing it right?

Really looking forward to Usyk v Gassiev, probably the best cruiserweight fight since Holyfield was in the division.

One you've left out possibly intentionally but I think is a great fight is this weekend with Taylor/Postol. Massive step up for Taylor against one of the top men in the division. Should be an absolute cracker.

Step up and good test for Taylor. Postol no mug and wasn’t allowed to work up close against Crawford by Weeks. Taylor against Prograis on a collision course surely if they keep on winning

Josh Taylor fought Viktor Postol in a WBC final eliminator tonight. The fight was a real war, Taylor went the full 12 rounds for the first time. Taylor knocked down Postol in the tenth round. Embarrassing scorecards 119-108, 118-107 & 117-110. Typical corrupt scorecards I had Taylor up by two points. Taylor’s defence is awful and anyone with power takes him out. On aside not note Alex Arthur is a moron and shouldn’t ever be allowed to commentate any future bout.

It was a very entertaining fight. Shortly before the knockdown I thought that Postol looked done. He did well to hang in there til the final bell. A lot of fighters would have given up. The scoring was a bit of a joke though. I had Taylor winning 116-113 so the scoring was a bit of a joke. You could certainly make a lot of the rounds 10-10 or given them 10-9 to Postol.

You're right about Taylor's defence. He seemed to take far too much leather even though he's only had 13 fights. He should be better than that. If he'd faced Crawford instead (the only other man to beat Postol) he'd have been done by round 6 I reckon. Still, he has a bit of potential. Isn't the IBF title vacant? He could be gifted a shot at that.

I think Taylor is first in line for the full WBC title as interim holder Regis Prograis is heading a different direction. No idea who's going to fight for vacant IBF belt, could potentially be Prograis

Vargas is pony. Losses to Garcia & Spence, who creamed Vargas inside four rounds. Pablo Munguia has also beaten Vargas, and Munguia went on to lose to Phil Lo Greco two years later.

That says it all about the standard of Vargas. Easy Khan victory.

Josh Taylor has thrown his hat in the ring for the WBSS 140lb tounament - you've got Kiryl Relikh (WBA Champ), Anthony Yigit, Euro Champ & IBF Mandatory, Taylor (WBC Mandatory) and Eduard Troyanovsky (WBA Mandatory).

Not on a par with the cruiser tournament but on a par with the 168 guys.

Apart from finding out the best in the division the other great thing about tournaments like this is that not just the winner can come out smelling of roses

Look at the cruiserweights all of Usyk/Gassiev/Briedis will have enhanced their profile

Even Dorticos to a lesser extent

I think with the addition of Prograis/Velasco this probably surpasses the 168lb version of the WBSS, in terms of quality. Obviously the 168 version had the added attraction in the UK at least of 4 UK fighters, but the rest were pretty poor.

If they could manage to rope in Ramirez then that would complete a fantastic line up for me although I can see Arum allowing one of his guys anywhere near it. Can't see Hooker getting involved reckon he will be tied up with either a Flanagan rematch or Davies/Catterall.

Hadn't realised that Prograis has thrown his hat in the ring. The report I read didn't have him listed. Warming up nicely then.

Herman I think all the 4 cruiser champs deserve credit for their recent fights. Dorticos against Gassiev was one of the fights of the year - not a backward step taken by either man. And not to mention it was free to view. I think that Gassiev has a chin of concrete and fists of steel - Dorticos hit him with some humdingers and nothing came even close to moving him. Dorticos to his credit never stopped trying and Gassiev was relentless in pursuing the stoppage. Great fight by two warriors. No shame there.

Totally agree with the above, and it's a great shame that some momentum has been lost just as the division seemed to be picking up some momentum finally, having been the poor relation for so many years. Looking forward to the fight on the 21st though, feel Usyk will have enough with a couple of scares likely.

The only downside of the Cruiser division is that whoever ends up winning the WBSS is almost certain to try and make the jump to Heavyweight and relinquish all of the belts immediately after winning though it certainly has provided some outstanding fights, and I expect the final to be the best of the lot.

That being said with Breidis added to the undercard I would be more than happy to see him in with whoever loses next for one of the belts that will be made vacant.

Manny Pacquiao rolled back the years with a crushing KO win over Lucas Matthysse. Pacquiao achieved his first win inside the distance in some 9 years. Pacquiao earned Matthysse's secondary WBA belt.

Elsewhere Rocky Fielding beat Tyron Zeuge by KO to win the secondary WBA super middleweight title

Regis Prograis hammered his tune up opponent to a KO win and sealed his place in the WBSS

I wouldn't read too much into the Pacquiao win. Matthysse has looked shot for a while now, has hardly been the most active at the highest level, and all he can offer now is a big punch. Take that away, and he's pretty average, and now getting on in boxing terms. Couple that with Manny's far superior timing and footwork, and it's an easy night's work. I think that he gets well beaten by the likes of Spence and Crawford now.

Good work by Fielding to take the WBA secondary title. Does this now make him the mandatory for the winner of Groves/Smith? Don't fancy his chances too much - Smith knocked him down 3 times in the first round when they met, forcing a stoppage.

Really looking forward to seeing how Prograis moves forward in the WBSS. He looks like he could be a bit special.

With regards to Lucas Matthysse, his war with Provodnikov might have resulted in a win on the Argentine's résumé but the Russian took Matthysse's soul.

And with regards to Zeuge-Fielding, the German was knackered after the first 3 rounds. Terrible conditioning. Fielding would become mandatory for Groves/Smith somewhere down the line but it won't be a bout that would turn out well for Fielding

WBSS super middleweight final has been confirmed to be taking place in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Got to be one of the most bizarre decisions ever. U.K. Was the logical choice considering it's two English men in the final

Billy Joe Saunders will make mandatory defence against Demetrius Andrade. The fight will take place in the USA. Against a strange choice as Saunders can't sell out a phone box in the U.K. And Andrade basically fights once a year and has little fan support

I am sure that Andrade is the WBO mandatory so it's no surprise that it's been made. Saunders has a style that's technically great but visually dull. He frustrates and taps whilst not actually exciting anyone.

Andrade always strikes me as a big mouth without a big fight. Be interesting to see how he deals with Saunders' elusivity.

Stevenson looked a touch sickened in spots in last fight so you could be right he doesn’t enjoy it up him does he

Gvozdyk fights more mid range and on the outside so maybe Stevenson could get his left hand off which he couldn’t do against Jack who fights close up but like you I fancy him to end the Stevenson reign

I think the weak opponents and inactivity has caught up with Stevenson tbh. If Jack had thrown more punches he'd probably have beaten Stevenson.

Gvozdyk not quite as scary as Kovalev back in the day but he looks scary good

I honestly can't fathom this comment. How does calling out an absolute beast 2 weight classes above constitute ducking somebody who's promoter will probably not let them near you?

Don't get me wrong I wanna see Mikey v Loma as much as anybody but I just don't get the logic behind saying this means Garcia is ducking him.

If BJS came out tomorrow and stated he was fighting Bivol next I highly doubt anybody would be saying he is ducking the winner of Canelo/GGG

Sensible move by Matthysse. The Pacquiao fight made sense as a pension pot really. No shame in losing to such a fighter but kudos if he beat him. I sensed he'd ride off into the sunset whatever the result.

If ESPN’s streaming service is $4.99 a month, how come DAZN is $9.99?

I’d like to ask the people at DAZN what their service has got that ESPN hasn’t?

And shouldn’t they, as a new platform have started off at the lower rate to attract support?

Eddie certainly needs to attract more quality, since the launch despite all the money they have, was a little underwhelming.

Here’s hoping they can attract some new big signings soon

I cancelled it a few months ago because of that very reason. There's only so many repeats someone can watch.
