That could well be the strongest team we have put out all year in a game that will count for nothing but pride.
Good to see we are certainly not going to roll over and if Exeter want to get to the quarters, they are going to have to earn it!

The legend that is Simone Favaro will be out on the Scotstoun pitch delivering the match ball for tomorrows game.
That should inspire the team and the crowd. It will be good for them to give him one last cheer!

Aye Gee what a welcome our erstwhile mad Italian will get. He is playing for a police side in Italy now I believe. We could do with some of his spine shattering tackles tomorrow.
BTW hope our Exeter friends are taking weather precautions as right now there is a blizzard of freezing hail and snow in the WE of Glasgow.

Re: Glasgow Warriors v Exeter Chiefs
So, it looks like our backs against their pack.
If, and it's a big IF, we get ahead early on then they have to play some rugby (which they avoided having to do at Sandy Park) and they will be very vulnerable to our speed on the counter.
However, if they go ahead early and then keep pinning us back then it's Leinster and running about with our hair on fire time again.
Also, one lucky fan will be presenting the match ball alongside Simone Favaro: s/he'd better put it exactly where Simone says ad God help her/him if it gets dropped before the centre spot.

Aye Young James the original Italian Stallion is back. He will get a very warm welcome. Disco (OTOTM) has it just as you say. We have a massive backs advantage. They have a massive forwards advantage. Looking forward to the Gray v Hill round 2
BTW they have delayed opening the gates to the ground until 1200, presumably to get rid of the snow and ice lying around.

A bruising first half, with three Glasgow players off the pitch already.
That might tell later on, along with the sheer amount of defending we are doing. It has been a good effort so far though and we can score ourselves if given a sniff.
Hope no more injuries though.

Glasgow looking good. Execeter will need t open up at some point and that will suit us.
Not convinced that Simmond got the ball over the line, mind.

The ref was right there I think he had a better view than the tv cameras.
Glasgow are playing it very close on the scrums. They've just been pinged for running it round and should have been pinged several times in the first half. I wonder if the Chiefs forwards coach asked a question or two at half time.

Was harsh. Disappointed to see the Glasgow 22 heading straight to the referee calling for the decision, those antics are football not rugby.
Glasgow going through the gears now.

Re: Glasgow Warriors v Exeter Chiefs
How the hell did they get away with that 5m away from the try line. Wasn't even one player in the side it was half the pack. Stone cold penalty try.
Then length of the field wonder try and that's the game.

Glasgow have certainly rode their luck with penalty decisions / no decisions but they've certainly made the most of it.
A different referring interpretation and this could have been a very different game!

I suspect an AP ref may have awarded Exeter a penalty try un either half. It's the added complication of Europe though you have to adapt to the ref you get.

Exeter not the first Aviva team to come up to Glasgow and lose. Any excuse to bring out that Pete Horne try vs Northampton.

Re: Glasgow Warriors v Exeter Chiefs
Some great individual performances from the returning Scotland players.
Anyone now got any doubts about why Tommy Seymour starts against Wales. I think he just needed a rest and was carrying an injury.
Although the brilliance of the backs was mesmerising at times, it was the fact that our pack did not allow themselves to get completely over run that won us the game. They really hung in there, just about kept parity at scrum time and were immense in the loose.
The new kid at hooker was chucked into a game way above anything he had ever played in before, so we can cut him some slack.
Nuke had his best game for Glasgow by a country mile and the back row were outstanding, hard to believe that Matty Fargerson is still only an U20.
That is the kind of gutsy performance we have been looking for, yes we rowed our luck but we were due a slice. We put them under pressure and they made mistakes.
I look forward to the end of the season when we have our walking wounded back and then see how we can play.

Well, the Chiefs tried to open it up and were killed on the counter attacks.formerly known as Sam wrote:jimbopip wrote:Glasgow looking good. Execeter will need t open up at some point and that will suit us.

The yellow card and PT was probably pivotal but it was a two man overlap and he didn't really look committed to the tackle.
I don't agree Sam, that the ref was close enough for Simmons try; he has to run round two players after play has stopped. But hey ho.
Horne, Horne, Russell,Hogg, Fagerson were all outstanding. Matt Smith looked very good while he was on.
P.s.If you haven't seen it, Pat MacArthur interviewing D'Arcy Rae on Warriors TV is hilarious.

You have got to feel gutted for Leo Sarto as well, that looked like dislocated his shoulder again. It has all been shoulder injuries with him, one after another. That will be him out for the season again if it is.
Two seasons and he has hardly played for us, but looked so promising when he has.
He is looking for a new contract as well, it is really unfortunate.

Yes its a shame as he's some player but that's surely him out the door at the end of the season. Hopefully he gets at least gets some big money in France.
We'll be needing a winger then.

Re: Glasgow Warriors v Exeter Chiefs
Glasgows penalty try was harsh but right. too many refs would have bottled it. Obviously looked like a deliberate knock on but a brave ref to give it given the player could claim he was going for a wrap tackle but the ball had left th eglasgow players hands before the attempted tackle and the exter player swung his arm atthe ball. Poite is always harsh on what he sees as cheating but soft on accidental penalty offences
I do not know why someone has claimed Exeter could have had two penalty tries if an ap ref was reffing unless you mean ap refs are biased towards ap teams? Nothing I saw from Glasgow could have merited a penalty try

AP refs don't allow the defending teams scrums to run round 5m from the line when being pushed backwards. You get away with that once but Glasgow did it twice in the first half. In the second half there was the blatant in at the side as Exeter were going over from a driving maul, half the Glasgow pack went in at the side. Appalling decision not to give a penalty try for that one as that was more cynical and blatant than the wrap tackle which Poite was quick to penalise, maybe the Exter players needed shout at the ref for more decisions?

Re: Glasgow Warriors v Exeter Chiefs
ah - the in at the side at the maul should have been a penalty perhaps but not a penalty try given it was not certain it would be scored Even then the whole maul ws turning so they did join at the back but as they joined the maul went past them. Looked bad tho for sure. The scrum one? No way jose. glasgow did not run around - the whole scrum wheeled ie both front rows turned.
