Jordan Spieth will be ruing his second round after ending the Masters like he started with the low score of the day. If he could have driven the ball well on 18 he could have tied the lead but poor tee shots in rounds one and four cost him two shots. Spieth was the highest pick finishing in third place behind Rickie Fowler and Patrick Reed. Champion Reed was one of three players to be under par in all four rounds, Henrik Stenson and Louis Oosthuizen managed that feat in finishing fifth and twelfth respectively.
BlueCoverman ran away with the Masters title this year as his three scoring picks; Spieth, Rory McIlroy, and Bubba Watson finished third, fifth, and fifth. Eyetoldyouso sneaked second place from Pedro courtesy of Spieth, Watson, Justin Rose, and the Low Amateur pick. Pedro had Spieth, Watson, and Justin Thomas. Beninho, EmmDee57, and LadyPutt all had four scoring picks while AlciG, I'm Never Wrong, Kwinigolfer, McLaren, Raycastleunited, Sand, and Super_Realist all had three scoring picks. Davie, GPB, Owen10ozzy, SetupDetermines, SirBenson, and TheCleaver all had two scoring picks although SirB's score was supplemented by the Low Amatuer.
Doug Ghim was the only amateur to finish and he completed his Masters tournament with an eagle on the 72nd hole; Eyetoldyouso and SirBenson earned the bonus points for correctly choosing Ghim to be the Low Amateur.

It’s that time of year again as we head to Georgia for the Masters. The unofficial start to the season that's halfway through is upon us as the world almost steps back in time by crossing the threshold and onto Magnolia Lane. In this genteel place the golfing vocabulary changes, where there is no rough or spectators but different cuts and patrons. Pristine manicured fairways and flowerbeds set the scene for the tournament which really only gets serious on the back nine on Sunday. This is where players will negotiate the swirling winds of Amen corner and listen to the roars generated by those on a charge and hopefully make their own to don a green jacket on the 18th green.
There are 87 entrants to this year’s tournament including the last minute addition of the perennial board marmite, Ian Poulter, by virtue of his win in Houston. In the field are 16 first timers, 6 amateurs, and 18 past champions; 13 of whom are only playing due to their lifetime invitation. Shubshankar Sharma was extended an invitation despite not meeting the qualifying requirements 59 of the top 60 in the OWGR are in attendance; Brooks Kopeka was not able to take up his invitation.
With the limited field there will be two picks plus reserve. No additional cut bonus points will be awarded in this instance, the only cut bonus to apply is for all six picks through to the third round.
There are six amateurs in the field, idenitfied by (Am) after their name, so we will have a separate pick for Low Amateur. The Low Amateur pick does not have to be one of your Cat C picks unless you so desire. 30 points will be on offer for correctly picking the Low Amateur; if no amateurs make the cut then no points will be awarded.

RULES
Picking players: Unless stated, pick a total of 6 players as follows:
Pick 2 players from each category, plus a reserve per category.
Pick 1 amateur identified by (Am) after their name.
Event winner: The person with the most total points at the completion of each event will be declared the winner. In case of a tie, those involved will match-off each picks' final position score in descending order. i.e. Player A's best finish vs. Player B's best finish, Player A's 2nd best finish vs. Player B's 2nd best finish, etc... until one's pick finishes better than the other(s).
If there is a tie after all 6 picks have been matched against each other, those involved will be declared co-winners.
Player Withdrawals: If you pick a player who withdraws during a tournament, that player will be eligible for points for all completed rounds and making the cut if they withdraw after the cut. It must be apparent that the player completed their round for them to be eligible for either the low round, worse round, top 5, or top 10 low round scores. If a player withdraws before starting the tournament then your reserve will be put in that player's place. It is up to you to check that your players are in the starting field.
Failure to submit valid picks: If you do not submit valid picks you will be awarded zero points for each invalid pick.
Deadlines: Picks must ideally be submitted before the first drive is struck on the first day of the tournament. However, late picks submitted after the tournament has begun must be for players who have yet to start (or are not showing a score on europeantour.com, PGATour.com, etc.), and these will not be valid unless they are seconded by any other league member.
All fantasy league disputes and discrepancies will be considered by the League Judge: LadyPutt. All decisions made by the League Judge are final.

Re: Fantasy League - Major Championships 2018 - The Masters
Is this back for good and the start of a new season?
Strangely enough Grumps I actually logged on to message you and ask if you were running it this year and offer my services to either help or take over if it was an issue of time constraints.
Glad its back and will get my picks up in due course!

Strangely enough Grumps I actually logged on to message you and ask if you were running it this year and offer my services to either help or take over if it was an issue of time constraints.

Hello folks,
Some of you were aware that Mrs Grumps had been quite ill for some time. With the regular hospital appointments and such like running regular events took a back seat as my interest waned. In late 2016 her farewell tour started and she/we took a number of trips which again curtailed my availability and interest in running events. Unfortunately the last of these trips proved to be too much for her and she passed away six weeks ago while we were away.
I will run events for the Majors and maybe some other tournaments, Players & WGCs?, but a regular event isn't going to happen. If Owen is happy to pick up the mantle, he will continue the tradition of replacing the organiser as I did with Venice1, and he in turn with GoldWolf or GW as he's now known.
Thank you,
Grumps

Re: Fantasy League - Major Championships 2018 - The Masters
I hope that Grumps will not mind me saying that myself and Mrs Blue last saw Mrs Grumps in late December, when we met them both for a late Christmas drink. We knew that she was very unwell but were still terribly shocked when Grumps contacted us only a few weeks later with the sad news. She was a lovely person and incredibly brave throughout the whole of her illness. Grumps was with her every step of the way during this awful time, no husband could have done more for his wife than he did.

Oh Grumps, I'm so very sorry to hear your news. I knew she was ill and when you hadn't posted for a while I did fear the worst but was hoping it might have been specialist treatment which took you away. LordPutt and I were thrilled to meet you when you visited us a year or so back, just after we'd moved to Scotland, and we were able to play with you here at Leven, so I wish I could now come and give you a big hug, although that will never ease the pain you must be feeling right now. You are both in my thoughts and prayers

Jordan Spieth returned to his happy place in Georgia. He shot 66 to take the first round lead by two shots. Spieth was a popular pick with almost half of the Fantasy League featuring him in their line ups. Rounds of 69 or better were needed to make the Top 5 Low Round scores. Rory McIlroy was one of the players to shoot 69 and he was almost as popular as Spieth. Matt Kuchar and Tony Finau, dislocated ankle and all, both shot 68.
AlciG, Beninho, BlueCoverman, and GPB all picked Spieth and had one of Finau, Kuchar, and McIlroy. Davie, Eyetoldyouso, McLaren, Pedro, and SirBenson also picked Spieth. EmmDee57, Kwinigolfer, LadyPutt, Owen10ozzy, Raycastleunited, Sand, SetupDetermines, Super_Realist, and TheCleaver also had one of Kuchar and McIlroy.
All six amateurs in the race for Low Anateur have been selected. Doug Ghim is the best placed after a level par round; Eyetoldyouso and SirBenson chose Ghim. Doc Redman and Joaquin Niemann are the closest challengers after 76s.

Patrick Reed sets the pace at the halfway stage of the Masters after a second round 66. His score was one shot better than that of Marc Leishman and Justin Thomas. Luckily for the majority of the field the ten shot rule did not come into play and the cut line fell at +5. For the Fantasy League that meant only six picks missed out and a shed of bonus points were awarded. AlciG, BlueCoverman, Eyetoldyouso, GPB, I'm Never Wrong, Kwinigolfer, LadyPutt, Pedro, Raycastleunited, Super_Realist, and TheCleaver all have the full complement for the weekend. Beninho, Davie, EmmDee57, McLaren, Owen10ozzy, and SetupDetermines all lost one pick; Ben, Davie, and Owen came close to matching those with all six as Charl Schwartzel missed the cut by one shot. Sand and SirBenson have four picks left.
The race for Low Anateur is over. Doug Ghim was the only amateur to make the cut and Eyetoldyouso and SirBenson will receive the bonus points after he finishes the weekend.

The soft conditions allowed the players the chance to go low and three players managed to shoot 65 to tie for the Low Round of the day. Two of the three were picks in Rory McIlroy and Jon Rahm; McIlroy was picked by BlueCoverman, EmmDee57, Kwinigolfer, Owen10ozzy, Raycastleunited, Sand, and SetupDetermines while Rahm was picked by I'm Never Wrong and Super_Realist. Rickie Fowler also shot 65.
Rounds of 69 or lower were needed to reach the Top 10 Low Round scores and two other picks managed to do that. BlueCoverman, EmmDee57, I'm Never Wrong, Raycastleunited, SetupDetermines, and Super_Realist all added another scoring pick to their Low Round scorer. LadyPutt had both of those players in her picks while Beninho, Eyetoldyouso, McLaren, Pedro, and SirBenson all had one scoring pick.

Or Fowler. Rough count shows just 11 picks in the scoring positions, could be very close

I expect BlueCoverMan to win... he already had a nice lead of 60 points and he has Spieth as one of his picks
