Fixture Congestion Empty Fixture Congestion

Post by David Tails Thu Feb 10, 2011 4:59 am

Some Scottish Premier League clubs may have to play four games in eight days to complete the required amount of fixtures before the league split.

A spokesperson for the SPL told BBC Scotland it was a "real possibility" because of the backlog of games.

Such scheduling is largely dependent on further Scottish Cup replays - which take precedence over league games - and Rangers' progress in the Europa League.

The league split is due to take place on Saturday 16 April.

By that point, it is hoped all 12 clubs will have fulfilled 33 fixtures, although in previous seasons there have been instances of teams playing games in hand after the split.

I do tend to find the over reaction from some clubs to this news to be comical. The SPL are not to blame for adverse weather conditions, or teams drawing cup games. Get over it and deal with the congestion.

Where do you stand on this issue? Do you think this is a problem of the SPL's own making? Should they be held accountable?
