Webb Simpson continued his dominant march to victory with a few mis-steps but no one was close enough to take advantage. It seemed that there was a glass ceiling that blocked any challengers once they closed in on him. Eyetoldyouso had a Simpson like performance in the Fantasy League, being the sole Fantasy Leaguer that chose Simpson he had a very strong advantage that was too much to bridge for the rest of the league. Pedro had the most picks finish in the points but there wasn't sufficient quality to challenge Eyetoldyouso. BlueCoverman and Raycastleunited both had three picks score points while AlciG, Davie, GPB, Kwinigolfer, LadyPutt, SirBenson, Super_Realist, and Wiretapper all had two scoring picks. I'm Never Wrong and SetupDetermines both had one scoring pick.
Brooks Koepka shot 63 for the low round of the day.

Jordan Spieth and Tiger Woods both shot 65 to tie for low round of the day and set themselves up for a joint Sunday tee time. Spieth was a popular pick with half of the Fantasy League picking him, Tiger was not so popular, appearing in three selections but two Fantasy Leaguers picked both of them. BlueCoverman and Raycastleunited earned double bonus points here. They both added another scoring pick in Justin Thomas. Eyetoldyouso also had three scoring picks including Spieth. AlciG, Davie, and Super_Realist all had two scoring picks; AlciG included Woods while Davie had Spieth. GPB, Pedro, SirBenson, and Wiretapper all had one scoring pick. Pedro was the only one not to pick Spieth out of that group.
With 80 players left in the field the MDF cut line fell at even par and Fantasy league pick Zach Johnson packed his bags.

Webb Simpson had the chance to set a new course record and then came 17. Oops. His round of 63 was the best by far and has given him a five shot lead at the half way stage. Eyetoldyouso benefited from his fine play.
As the course firmed up in the afternoon the cut line fluctuated back and forth more times than the ball in a tennis match. It fell at -1 and 80 players are now playing Saturday so that means another cut after round three. No one managed to keep the full set for the weekend; five Fantasy Leaguers, Eyetoldyouso, GPB, Pedro, Raycastleunited, and Super_Realist, have seven picks left. Super earned two cut bonuses from his seven. AlciG, BlueCoverman, Kwinigolfer, SetupDetermines, and SirBenson all have six years. AlciG, Setup, and SirB earned cut bonuses from their six and SirB earned two. LadyPutt has five picks left while Davie, I'm Never Wrong, and Wiretapper have four picks left; both Davie and I'm Never Wrong earned a cut bonus.

The Players is often referred to as the fifth major and after the first round you can see why. You have to score low to get in contention; six players shot 66 to tie for the first round lead. Four of those six were picks and unusually there was no doubling up. Matt Kuchar was the most popular pick featuring in the selections of GPB, Kwinigolfer, LadyPutt, Pedro, SirBenson, and Wiretapper. Dustin Johnson was selected by I'm Never Wrong and Super_Realist while Alex Noren and Webb Simpson were selected by BlueCoverman and Eyetoldyouso respectively. Chesson Hadley and PatrickCanplay Cantlay were the other two low scorers.

Love it or hate it the Stadium course certainly garners opinion and most of it centres around the shortest hole on the course; the 137 yard par 3 17th. Often the location of the sudden death playoffs the 17th will this time be part of a three hole playoff comprising of holes 16-18 should the need arise. Sudden death will resume on the 17th if there is still a tie.
Lots of the top players are in attendance with all 50 of the top 50 in the world rankings taking part. 115 out of 146 players from the top 200 are in attendance cranking up the world ranking points on offer in this event. One player, Scott McCarron, does not appear in the rankings; his invite is courtesy of his victory in the Senior Players Championship last year.
Si Woo Kim is the defending champion and youngest winner of the Players Championship. He will be hoping to be the first man to win back to back titles in the 45 years the Players has been run. There has only been six multiple winners and Jack Nicklaus has come the closest to defending having won it three times in a five year spell. Hal Sutton, Fred Couples, Steve Elkington, Davis Love-III and Tiger Woods are the other players to have won it more than once. Elkington has the second shortest time between wins with seven years separating his. All the others have taken over 10 years to capture a second crown. Other former winners who are in the field are Jason Day, Rickie Fowler, Martin Kaymer, Tiger Woods, Matt Kuchar, Henrik Stenson, Sergio Garcia, Phil Mickelson, and Adam Scott. K.J. Choi and Tim Clark are the most recent winners missing from this edition
There are three Categories where you will need pick three players, plus reserve, from each one. There are bonus points available if you get all of your picks through in any category. Get all 9 picks through and you get an even bigger bonus. It's all way down at the bottom in the scoring section if you are interested.
This is a full field with cut event, cut points will be available; see above.

RULES
Picking players: Unless stated, pick a total of 9 players as follows:
Pick 3 players from each category, plus a reserve per category.
Event winner: The person with the most total points at the completion of each event will be declared the winner. In case of a tie, those involved will match-off each picks' final position score in descending order. i.e. Player A's best finish vs. Player B's best finish, Player A's 2nd best finish vs. Player B's 2nd best finish, etc... until one's pick finishes better than the other(s).
If there is a tie after all 9 picks have been matched against each other, those involved will be declared co-winners.
Player Withdrawals: If you pick a player who withdraws during a tournament, that player will be eligible for points for all completed rounds and making the cut if they withdraw after the cut. It must be apparent that the player completed their round for them to be eligible for either the low round, worse round, top 5, or top 10 low round scores. If a player withdraws before starting the tournament then your reserve will be put in that player's place. It is up to you to check that your players are in the starting field.
Failure to submit valid picks: If you do not submit valid picks you will be awarded zero points for each invalid pick.
Deadlines: Picks must ideally be submitted before the first drive is struck on the first day of the tournament. However, late picks submitted after the tournament has begun must be for players who have yet to start (or are not showing a score on europeantour.com, PGATour.com, etc.), and these will not be valid unless they are seconded by any other league member.
All fantasy league disputes and discrepancies will be considered by the League Judge: LadyPutt. All decisions made by the League Judge are final.

I see Paul Casey is in sick bay, back problem apparently. Keith Mitchell off the bench and playing in his place, Brian Stuard first sub.
I think that affects some substitutes, no picks.

Brooks Koepka shot 63 for the low round of the day.

Well done Eye
Watching Spieth and Woods stumble over the final holes last night I did think there goes the fantasy league. Good to have it back.
Thanks Grumpy for organising
